One of my fav games from my childhood
Assault Android Cactus is a third-person twin-stick shooter with a lot of love put into it. It seems pretty fair and has a few quality-of-life additions compared to the games that inspired it — including hit points and unlimited lives. However, it has some problems… and I'm not just saying that because I'm bad at it. Full disclosure: I have only beaten the first area of the game with the default character, so please bear that in mind when reading my review. The Good Cute, bobble-headed android girls blasting robots with various weapons on a space colony? What's not to like? The Bad Controls can't be changed, the backgrounds and enemies blend together at times, the mouse sensitivity feels inconsistent, and the engine has sub-optimal controller support. The Ugly Trying to rack up enough credits to unlock everything is a serious time-sink… I just want my first-person view mode, darn it! Further Analysis The story is simple enough: you're part of some galactic space patrol and crash-land on this space colony. There, you meet three other androids in trouble. They explain the situation — that their core lords have gone haywire and sicked the machines on all sentient lifeforms aboard. That means androids are fair game, too. Luckily, Cactus (that's the cop's name) rallies the androids together, kits them out with weaponry, and stages a counter-attack! Pretty basic stuff, but it works. The gameplay is also pretty simple. Move around. Shoot things. Collect power-ups and temporary boosters. Don't get hit. If you do get hit a few times, you get stunned and have to tap back in. There is no immediate downside to this — you just get delayed. However, you're also on a timer in the form of a battery gauge. It can be refilled via battery pick-ups, but once it reaches the end, you have to restart the level. Needless to say, if you keep getting downed, you'll run out of time. The graphics are charming, but confusing. The main characters are all delightfully bright-eyed and cute as buttons, and the enemy robots are as technological and industrial as can be. However, I had a hard time telling what was background and what was foreground at times. The camera also doesn't seem particularly responsive. This led to me getting trapped in a corner and repeatedly beaten down once or twice. Not exactly a game-breaker, but pretty annoying. The music? I honestly couldn't hear it over the gameplay. What I heard seems alright, but a bit repetitive. Typical arcade stuff. The sound effects? It's okay. Pew-pew lasers, fwoosh-y fire, clankity-clanks as robots stomp around… It works for what it is. The voice acting, however, is where I think the sound design shines brightest. The voice cast for the four main androids does a darn good job portraying the situation and emotions. Excitement, fear, befuddlement… it's all pretty spot-on and makes you feel for them. The extras are a nice addition, but boy will you be spending some time to earn them. I cleared Area 1 and earned 1,000 Credits. This is enough to unlock some minor things. I unlocked "Normal Head Mode", myself. However, that First-Person View I mentioned unlocks with 5,000 Credits. Art and certain Codex entries also take a bit of Credits to unlock. It's your typical "play the game to get the things" kind of system. As far as I can tell, though, there's no real-money transactions or paid gates to unlock anything. Where I had trouble was with actually playing the game. I don't have the beefiest computer in the world, but between not being able to rebind my keyboard buttons, and the sometimes-sluggish mouse-driven reticle, I often found myself shooting in a random direction, slooowly sweeping my way toward where I was trying to aim. Playing in first-person mode would probably improve the game a little… but not if the mouse controls continue to stay so unresponsive. The mouse aiming feels sluggish even when the game is running smoothly — and yes, I'm playing on the lowest possible graphic settings with the frame rate uncapped / V-sync disabled. The game also ignores my controller. To be fair, my setup is unusual: I use a third-party PlayStation 2-to-USB adapter. It works well enough for most things, but if a game is looking for a very specific kind of hardware configuration, it tends to get overlooked. I generally use a keyboard-to-joystick emulator for such instances, but I that really wouldn't help here since I'd still be stuck in "keyboard-and-mouse mode". Not sure if having actual twin-stick controls (left stick moves, right stick looks) would help personally, though — I'm just bad at the game. Conclusion I really want to like this game. It's just… difficult for me to do so. Overall, I think this game can be great. It's not something you're going to play every Sunday afternoon with your friends, but it's fun to play around with now and then. It's pretty, the characters are likable, the story is decent, and the gameplay loop is what you'd expect from a game like this. If the controls could be changed, more controllers supported, and little things tweaked and tightened, this could really be something amazing. I'd recommend this game, but only if you're looking for something like Robotron: 2084 or Cannon Spike (Gunspike) with cute android girls and big guns. It's a flawed gem that I wish I was better at playing.

Such an amazing game!! It's so clear it was made with so much love and passion put into it!
This is fast, non stop action. A game really could not be better. What's also great is you can just play it without spending 20 minutes in time wasting cut scene or who knows what. I bought this game I think over 10 years ago when it was in early access, and still great to go back and play.
A surprisingly fun twin stick shooter. It might look like madness when you look at the gameplay, but you very quickly figure out how look through it all. Heck even the multiplayer is good if you want to do share the madness with your friends.
Really fun game, bought it in 2015 when it released and it just sat in my library forever. Now that I'm a lot better at games then I was 10 years ago the game was honestly amazing. Soundtrack was ballin the entire campaign, gameplay was smooth and enjoyable, the voice acting was really well done for 2015. Did this game make me crashout near the end, a little. I'd say still worth buying to play through
I sencirely wish to find ANYONE wo take part in developing of this game and make smoozy from their hands to make sure they NEVER make such annoyingly stupid ♥♥♥♥ again. 1. Camare are floaty and there no option to make it fixed. It float as it wish and only it's purpose is to ♥♥♥♥ You up. 2. Arenas are crampt as liquid pооpіngs... Literally. There no place for maneuvering and DPS of at least "main character" are not enough to clear it out fast enough. 3. Arenas are shifting while You progress it. It is bad thing, because You have no control on it. It amplify annoyingness from previous two points, because while arena shifting camera may also turning... WHILE YOU TRYING TO AIM ENEMIES!!! 4. Hitboxes are quintessence of dеgеnеrаcy. You regularly will take damage because lost vision of Your character and take hit because geometricaly it looks like projectile will miss You or because despite shooting precisely in enemy... It will not take damage. 5. Game mechanics while sounds interesting in real are... "Annoying" is a softest possible definition of it. Enemies drop upgrade points for Your weapon which work as experience and increase weapon effectiveness which have four levels from zero to three... Which You lost if character got knocked. Your ability to stand up by tapping "fire" will not help, because You can take baсk only like half of upgrade points after that. Game use cheesiest way to knock You BTW. Also battery mechanics... More like all pickables mechanics - they have inertia. I got wiped several times because "battery"(basically timer recovery item) float around me by inertia instead being picked up. And there many more little nuances like damage balancing and stuff. Overall this is a bad designed game. I'm not new to twin stick shooters and even Brigador where I have really bad involuntarily sеx with controls was leagues much more enjoyable than this ♥♥♥♥. Hell, "Alien Shooter: Legends"(all of them) was MUCH more enjoyable despite it was really horrible game which I hate. And to anyone who wish to say "It is because You need to learn the game and master it to enjoy."... SERIOUSLY?!! Maybe You then go and bent Yourself to suсk Your own dісk so You will be able to enjoy оrаl seх? Similar level of dеgеnеrаcy, You know. If it is annoying to the point You literally wish to hurt people than it be better to not "learn the game" if You value Your mental health, because satisfaction from success are negative in this game. I am Ok with "learn the game" if it hard, but enjoyable and telegraphing what You done wrong... This game just not.
addicting asf for a while, especially on controller/steamdeck. also a nostalgic game in general since I remember playing this as a kid on my uncle's pc
太好玩了,怀念当时高中时候玩盗版的日子,现在终于找到正版了~可恶,为啥没有简体中文啊~
