A curious take on the VS formula with a cute aesthetic and great music. There is a major flaw here though: All of the weapons are just a 'projectile' (even the melee ones) with different modifiers applied to it, and while it is fun to watch the numbers grow, there is only so much variety you can get out of that, no matter how much you modify those numbers. What makes VS and other VS-likes feel so replayable is how different the weapon types are (as in, they aren't all just a projectile that is fired at the nearest enemy), how they interact with one another, and how they allow for different 'playstyles' to emerge naturally. This game has none of that, and it instead tries to substitute that with 'elements', which are just another number for you to grow. And now that gives rise to the second major flaw: The gameplay just isn't deep enough to warrant the layer of 'resource management' (there are daily and weekly mechanics even?) and the multitude of 'unlocks' locked behind it. Even the rarest of items and/or upgrades don't really change the way you interact with the map and the enemies on it, because there is nothing crucial for them to change. For example, you can 'optimize' your 'build' by pre-banishing certain items from the pool (which can only be done by grinding the randomized sub-objectives and hoping you get the one that gives you resources that you need for this specific mechanic), but that just lets you grow the numbers faster. And this issue applies to the rest of the progression. Good thing this is Early Access though. There's hope this can be improved upon.

Arms of God is a really fun game to play
tl;dr: A MUST BUY IN THE GENRE! This game is insanely good. As someone who plays a lot of these action roguelikes (brotato and the bunch), this is up there as one of the tops, EASILY. There is SO much variety, everything feels different run to run, there's a lot to do. More importantly, it's interesting. Once I found out you can do things like upgrade the cross you bring into battle and what not, I was like damn that's unique. Highly, highly recommend this to people who enjoy the genre as well. They just had a huge update as well! Looking forward to more of this! <3
Load in, rock hard, slay hard, praise god. 10/10
very boring for this type of game
Fantastic game. Devs are very responsive to feedback in their Discord, and address bugs and balance issues personally and quickly. I can personally attest that they have a firm grasp on game design, and I'm confident that Arms of God will only continue to improve over the course of time. Also, the game runs great on Linux (CachyOS). Surprised at how well it runs and looks, considering it's built on UE5. Deus vult, I love the Poles.
You can thank Asmons Roach Review because that's where I saw the trailer for this! Genuinely worth the money. Having a blast and trying to unlock all the buffs/passives and unlocks atm
The Dev made some perplexing design choices... features "feel-bad" mechanics for no discernable reason. The way you combine firearms is counter-intuitive as heck. Whoever though that it's a good idea for respecking your upgrades in a rogue-like— to refund you less than 100% of the resources?!! IDK man. Game has something of a crysis of identity. It wants to be a game /w story & regular-old-progression but also wants to be a rogue-like. On the basic difficulty, it is too easy. I never died once playing this game & did not play long enough to unlock the higher difficulties. A propper rogue-like should really make you claw at progress, to make it clear to you that metaprogression is non-negotiable to make any headway. This game seemingly makes it an afterthought. The looks & style are the highlights of the game. Expect everything else about it to be worse. It is an early-acess game, it is allowed to be extremely rough around the edges, (which it is). I sure do hope the devs will fix it & add QOL over time.
This is a great game. There's enough control over the weapons and buffs that you get, to make trying different builds incredibly easy, and the variety of builds you can do is massive. Its a simple brain off game you can play with one hand, but is also still fairly challenging
