About
Approximately Up is your best chance to experience spaceflight in whatever you and your crew (singleplayer or co-op multiplayer with up to 4 players) can bolt together! Build epic spaceships or barely flying trashcans — it’s entirely up to you. Control your creation from a first-person view right from the deck of your ship. Complete challenging objectives, hunt achievements, face the dangers of space, and collect new components to expand your current spacecraft — or build hundreds of new ones. One is never enough!
Everything begins with a single piece of frame and grows into a massive, complex ship built from thousands of components. Create automated systems, experiment with different input controllers, sensors, and meters — connect them to whatever you need, and let the magic (or chaos) happen! Once it looks ready (or not), hit launch and see what happens!

Experimental power sources that need to be delivered to a station on another planet — causing unexpected power outages mid-flight? Some strange energy crystal charging up like a ticking time bomb? Or maybe it’s just a massive, ridiculously heavy submarine this time? Can your spaceship handle that?

Is the planet covered in oceans? What’s hiding beneath that thick atmosphere? Can you see the surface through those massive clouds? Everything’s waiting for you to find out! Explore 15 unique planets, each with its own look, feel, and dynamic soundtrack that changes in real time as you explore and make new discoveries!

Who forgot to connect that cable? Who mounted the thruster backward? Who forgot the solar panels? Or the door-opening button? Is the radar working? How about the batteries? Enjoy the hilarious chaos in co-op multiplayer with up to 4 players — and find out once and for all... WHOSE FAULT WAS IT?!

You start on Earth and slowly explore a system of 15 planets, each with its own size, gravity, atmosphere, temperature, and challenges that make every world feel different. Most planets have one or more Planet Stations, which work as checkpoints and garages where you can build ships and start new missions. When you land on a station, it unlocks permanently and becomes a new place you can launch from. To reach these planets, you build your own modular spaceships and experiment with different parts - electric engines, fuel engines, mixed fuels, solar panels, heat-resistant frames, and more. By completing missions like delivering components between planets, you earn new ship parts that let you create better and more advanced designs. All flights are fully first-person from inside your craft, and because distances are huge, your ship design really matters - some trips will take only minutes, while others can turn into long journeys if your ship is weak. The whole game is about exploring planets, upgrading your ships, unlocking new stations, and trying to make it to your destination without crashing.

This game is going to be fun. A few user interface improvements I wish were made though: -A wheel select for variations of the block your holding (Full, Half, Quarter Frame/Glass) to save hotbars -A "copy viewed block" hotkey -Ctrl Z last deleted item -When you chain the frames with wires, the ports "A B C D" stay accurate to the first placed frame, that way you don't have to visualize it each time.
I spent countless hours on research and development, doing math I have not done since grade school.. travelled hours to a foreign planet with my janky space craft... just to run out of energy and crash into it at thousands of kilometers per hour. 10/10 game, think i'm getting my physics degree after this

It is criminal that this game isn't Overwhelmingly Positive. Been playing since the demo and was excited for the 1.0 release. The dev listens to the players and each update has been improvement after improvement. This truly is a sandbox you can get lost in trying to figure out math, physics, and controls engineering all by yourself, and the game lets you get as deep as you'd like to. Get this game, it's fantastic.
Complex enough to make you think and struggle a little but simplistic enough to where you don't need a 5 hour long tutorial to understand the game. About 12 hours in there is still soooooo much content my friend and I have yet to discover. 100% worth the price :steamhappy:
I now spent nearly 80h in playing that game, optimizing the ship and so on. I really like the mechanics, also that you need to wire the parts you want to connect and so on. This is something I really missed in the other games, we all know and I now do not repeate in here... BUT this all got destroyed by friends are bored when flying with me - what should they do on a trip to the black hole for 2 hours? AND there is no manual, tried a lot of planets to land and get parts to make progress, but then it started with - the gate is not a large one, or the sun grills you on the way - you need to reload and fly another 30 minutes in the darker nothing space in a more distant way from sun to your target etc.... and then the black hole.... tried a lot, always crashed at 120G and cannot brake anymore with thrusters - they say you can look through the black hole... well I wasn't abled to do so.... This game needs more content for beside a long flight so that a multiplayer game makes sense again and way more description of the overall.....
If you like games about designing your own vehicles, this might be the best one out there. It offers a unique balance of difficulty and accessibility while keeping the actual building experience pretty smooth and ergonomic. You can get by with experience and piloting skill to navigate and travel with minimal instruments, or you can spend time delving into the maths and logic to design your own custom systems for PID hover, flip and burn, cameras, automatic landing and so on. Whatever you do, your every design choice affects the flight characteristics of your ship in a way that is more nuanced and personal than tech sheet with stats that you'd see in a normal space piloting game. To someone like me, its honestly more of some kinda software than than a game, but it is also a game with missions, progression, achievements, funny and tense moments that provide structure and motivation to design your ship better.
Neutral review: Premise is good but needs more time to cook. - Flight physics and behaviour needs a fair amount of work. - In Multiplayer players need to be able to create/pilot multiple ships (at the same time, instead of forced to work on one), and perhaps support vessels etc... - Need to add the ability to create ground (tyres, hover etc...) vehicles with + POI worth pursuing. - Water/liquid as in the transition from atmo to water is janky - Better sound cues.
yeah its good. there is a tutorial but its basically not a tutorial. best you know something about something before playing
