About
Anomalous takes place in Kosolov. A grim industrial city. Kosolov is a highly controlled and secretive society. It's an industrialized nation. With overwhelming authority and a devotion to its leaders, the citizens endlessly work to death. A hard divide between the secretive upper society and the majority brainwashed working class ensures continuation. Effectively shunned from the rest of the world, leaders of Kosolov have been free to fast-track their unethical scientific experiments to enhance their tyrannical military capabilities and workforce.
To create the ultimate controllable and mindless workforce Kosolov had put in place a plan to revive the dead and set them back to work - benefitting from an already high mortality rate. Scientists have attempted mechanical implants, regenerative biomass, and a host of bizarre experiments. With numerous unforeseen consequences resulting in a catastrophic disaster, the only thing left to do is battle your way out of the city.

I was going to recommend this game but a potential game breaking bug at the control level caused me to change my mind. This is a great single dev game that should be commended, rather than criticized, for what it has achieved. The issue is that the game has not been updated to resolve a problem seen by some players (reference the community section). As such, leaving the game at an unplayable state for customers who have paid for your product, even as an indie developer, is not a goold look. Byron Dunwoody, fix the game. You have potential.
RUN and GUN!

Anomalous is a pretty fun if very short boomer shooter with fun movement and a half life look to it. Its pretty impressive considering one guy made it and its clear there is love and care put into it. I did have a few performance issues where some levels dipped down from 300 fps down to 60 or so in certain parts of levels and there is no autosaving in the game. This becomes a big issue if you die in level because you either lose a lot of progress if you forget to save or start the level back with only an axe. Other than those two issues, Anomalous is a very enjoyable, short and charming boomer shooter
This game is so good! The way the industrial synthwave music blends with the fast-paced movement, traversal, and action is fantastic. The game has a really good flow that is sometimes hindered by maze-like level design, but thankfully, it never gets as bad as Doom 1 or 2 in that aspect. While clearly inspired by other games in the genre, Anomalous has an identity of its own—and a strong one at that. The only real negative thing I have to say about the game is that there’s only one boss fight, and they somehow managed to put minions in it... Don’t worry, though, it’s not a dealbreaker. It’s just annoying because... who likes minions in a boss fight??? Apart from that, I’d say that if you’re a fan of games like Doom, Dusk, or any other fast-paced shooters, you should definitely give this one a go.
Gun randomly not firing, enemies shooting you through walls, enemies blinking across your field of vision, enemies not spawning when they should spawn, enemies spawning but not "activating", doors not re-opening without interacting with them several times, invisible blockers when walking back up a ramp, grenades bouncing off of an open doorway instead of going through the doorway, enemies teleporting into the floor, a soundtrack song ending and no music replacing it, and you falling through levels are the most annoying bugs encountered so far. Given the choice between ~10 weapons and 5 weapons that feel impactful to use, I'd choose the latter. The shotgun, sniper, and bow and arrow feel especially rinky-dink (although the double shotgun's rhythm is satisfying). The grenade launcher doesn't feel super necessary. Despite all the above, this game is still fun to play - DOOM in Half Life skin is a winning combo. It's just a pain in the ass to reload multiple missions because you fall through the level.
Enjoyable mixture of elements from both the Half-Life series and more fast-paced retro shooters. Easy recommend EDIT: the controller support does not work in menus, use touchscreen if available
A lot of jank and quite some issues that make this look rather unfinished. Getting stuck on loads of little edges and thresholds limits the speed and fun of the gameplay. Enemies do silly amounts of damage on normal while their hitboxes are really weird at times. Needs a lot more work to be a recommendation. Decent effort for an indie title / passion project, but no competition to most other games out there.
There's part of me that wants to give this a positive review, but when it comes down to it, the question you gotta ask with these postive/negative review types is "would I recommend this to a friend", and I just don't feel like that's the case. (Played this on Veteran difficulty, if that matters) First off, wanna say I love the modelling of the guns and the enemies in the game. The human models are pretty simplistic, but think it fits the style and setting well. I also like some of the maps, especially the map Edgelands (which wasn't really used in the game, but was still great). The style in general I think is also really good. The movement is pretty tight, and encourages constant movement, although I wish there was any sort of movement abilities like a dash to accomodate for choices made with enemies (which are listed below). Now, the negatives. This game is janky. Proper janky. I fell out of the game about 7 times, and 3 of them were from the same poorly-placed teleporter. The spawn points for enemies are a joke, with many of them spawning in your vision, and frequently spawning literally in front of you. On more than one occasion, the enemy spawned literally where I was standing, and I was inside them. The spawns were arguably the single worst aspect of the game, and I feel like if that was fixed alone, it'd get this a positive review. Deliberately spawning enemies right in front you, in a large quantity, to bait a death and hope they didn't do a quicksave, is poor game design; the default retical is genuinely worthless, and I spent the first two levels getting infuritated that my shots kept missing, and this is possibly the only game I've ever played where it's REQUIRED to change the retical to like .4 to actually hit properly (anything lower just makes it disappear entirely, for some reason). the map design in at least half the maps are awful purely from a navigation perspective, where the direction you're meant to be heading is poorly signposted to you, which doesn't help by the fact many areas look nearly identical to others, ESPECIALLY in the later levels. Other examples include the one flying enemy regularly appearing in the sky in a non-tangible state, just hovering there in space until they spawn and just attack you; more than once I found missing textures; I had several instances of trying to explore the map, then getting in a location where I can't get back up and was forced to die; literally zero auto saves. Overall, I think the game shows the dev absolutely has some talent, and I'm excited to see what else they make, but every time I finished a level of this game I sighed when there was another one, and I feel like that's not the way you should play a game. Keep in mind, I finished the game in it's entirety,
Intensywny i całkiem dobry jednoosobowy retro shooter FPS. Na przecenie można sobie potestować.
