This has a lot of potential, very nice graphics, game play is good, you need this game!

I really like this game. It has it's flaws, true, but it's still a good game in my opinion. <3 I love the dystophian atmosphere. Graphics are pleasing to my eye and there are so many awesome worlds to explore! I love the idea that I have to do everything I can to save the last animals on Earth. It took me about 60 hours to complete this game, and there's still so much to do, for example improving my base. I will definitely come back to this game in the future. My one and only wish is that someday we get a map. It would make finding those nasty raiders and contaminated areas so much easier.
Animallica is a survival game with a pretty unusual reason for keeping me alive. The world has been hit by a deadly virus and I am basically the last person left trying to save what is still alive. Instead of only worrying about building a shelter and finding food, I am also going around rescuing animals, curing them and bringing them back to a sanctuary. I like that idea because it gives the usual survival and crafting systems something more meaningful to work towards. It feels different from just surviving for the sake of surviving. The exploration is probably what I enjoy most. There are a lot of different areas to travel through, including savannahs, deserts, mountains, forests and ruined locations, and each one has its own things to find. I can explore on foot, use a horse or travel between areas with the hot air balloon. There are abandoned buildings and other locations worth searching for supplies, while animals can be found throughout the world. I like having a reason to keep wandering around because I am usually looking for resources, useful items or another animal that I can bring back. The animal system is easily the part that gives Animallica its identity. I can tranquilize animals, treat them and tame them before deciding where I want to keep them. I can build up my own sanctuary and place different animals into suitable areas, which is something I find much more relaxing than the combat side of the game. There is also a creative mode that lets me focus much more on building and placing things without having to worry about normal survival. That gives me a nice alternative when I just want to work on the animal park and enjoy the world. There is a lot of crafting and building here as well. I can make tools, weapons, food, storage, crafting stations, buildings and decorations, so there is plenty to collect while I explore. The game does not force me into one strict way of progressing either. I can spend more time gathering resources, rescuing animals, building a settlement or simply exploring the different areas. I like that freedom because it makes the game feel more like a sandbox than a survival game with a checklist of objectives. The free form approach suits the animal conservation idea quite well. The biggest problem for me is the polish. Animallica has some really good ideas, but there are still plenty of rough edges that make the experience less smooth than it should be. The combat feels basic, some animations can look awkward and getting around on horseback can be frustrating when the terrain does not cooperate. The world can also feel a little empty in places, and the audio is not nearly as strong as the environments. I can see what the developers were trying to build, but there are moments where the game feels like a collection of good survival systems that never quite received the final level of refinement they needed. Even with those problems, I think Animallica has enough content and personality to keep me interested. The combination of exploration, crafting, building, survival and animal rescue gives me quite a lot to work with, and I especially like that saving animals is not just a small side activity. It is basically the main reason I am out there in the first place. The presentation and technical issues stop me from putting it alongside my higher rated survival games, but the idea is strong enough that I can overlook some of the roughness when I am enjoying myself. Overall, Animallica is a surprisingly ambitious survival game with a genuinely different focus. I really like rescuing and caring for animals, exploring all the different environments and building my own sanctuary, while the large amount of crafting and freedom gives me plenty to do. The clunky combat, awkward movement and general lack of polish are hard to ignore, though, especially when they get in the way of the parts I actually enjoy. For me, it is a good game with a great central idea that falls short of being something really special because the execution is not consistent enough. Rating: 7.7/10

The 'save the world and fight mutants' is a niche game and this one, while buggy at times, stands out in its unique approach. The lore is whacky, the maps are diverse with themes of samurai to the old west, and mix in base building and creating your own zoo.
