i absolutely LOVE this game! i really find the concept interesting of you just having to figure stuff out. They say they wont help much and THEY MEAN IT. There are a few bugs i wish theyd fix, but its a REALLY fun game. perhaps small spoiler: once you encounter the Miocene pelican, DONT KILL IT. If you, like me, cannot evolve any further and you kill it before completing the Dodge 2 times'' feat. it seems to never respawn again. So if you are in the same boot as me, my condolences.
I think the game is very cool, gameplay wise and visual wise.. However..
- I don't think the game is bad, visually nor gameplay. But rather what the game itself has to offer. It's a challenging game, with huge learning curves and a lot to explore and adapt to. You can craft simple tools, and form groups to move through obstacles better, and evolve and adapt until you reach the final stage, the 'H0mo Ergaster' without going extinct. The lack of promise for future updates and content; there's so much to do until there's nothing to do anymore, there's only so many times you are willing to sharpen a stick before it kind of becomes a chore. Also in terms of re-playability i don't think it's something most would really return to as there won't be too much variety. There was more promised to this game, but since the studio was small it didn't really do it - instead, the director moved onto '1666 Amsterdam' (which is also kind of hot garbage from what i heard) so i wouldn't have too much hope for future return to this game, nor would it be a good one. So, in the end. I wouldn't recommend it from the price alone for what it has going for it. Good idea, good project. But in the end is something left on a shelf with cobwebs, that could've benefitted from more attention by the studio - even if the progress was slow.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.57/day in the week to Jul 30 → 6/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

One of the best games I've played. No idea why there isn't a sequel. The gameplay might be repetitive and unpolished, but the concept is amazing and unexplored. That's what makes it so unique. There's also a feeling I had playing it, I felt that there was a lot of things that only had basic touches and could've have been turned into proper mechanics. Example: Expanding the clan was the easiest thing I had done and I never needed to do that again. It did help with the genetic mutation but expanding your clan had no real gameplay advantages like dogpiling on an opponent. If you have a clan, it should feel like a pack hunt. It never did. Or the fact you have so many items but they are all eaten or applied. There should have been more there to do with them, like mixing stuff. I know not realistic, but it's a game. Or bones, why can't you sharpen bones? You've a grinder, scrapper. It's possible when the stuff is right there in the name. At the start it was an exploration and survival game, mid-way, it turned into a landmark hunting game and the last bit I wanted to see the last evolution which I didn't even get to play (I wouldn't have minded if it was just walk and stuff), just the aesthetic would've been enough. But still, I will say this. It's worth playing. The fact it made me go reading about these things was more than enough for me. Will I replay it again? Probably in a few years. . P.S. (To the developers) : Please finish the story. Preferably in my lifetime.
Şu an millenium man'im, bakalım daha neler göreceğim? Final Tavsiyesi: En az bir yardımcı kaynağınız olsun, şahsen ben yapay zekaya soruyorum nesil atlayayım mı evrim geçireyim mi diye. Eğer bir komando mantalitesiyle oyuna girip hiçbir üçüncü parti destek almayacağım ben diyorsanız, helal olsun. Ama yüksek oranda anlamayıp oyuna sinirleneceksiniz, o nedenle o noktaya geldiğinizde kesinlikle bi araştırın.
mmmmMONKEY GAME (apes actually) it's fun and all, but it gets repetitive after a certain while. i hope ancestors 2 will have more gameplay loops instead of everything being a simple hold and release to survive. the controls are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ according to many, but you can easily get used to it. Every death is preventable btw, so if you die, that's FULLY your fault. also look at ts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MKAkfKeuDM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kfc8m8HsfHo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUrLuc4GL8I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaPk3QELQ6c ancestors 2, coming soon :>
Bought this game back in 2020, and it took me 6 years to finally come back to play, beat and 100% it. Honestly not a terrible game and had a lot of fun exploring the world and learning new mechanics, but its very obviously not for everyone. Combat is very clunky and progression is very unclear on what to do, along with endgame getting very repetitive. Would like to see how a sequel by these guys would be like.
Ok. This game starts off being very frustrating. I had a hard time figuring things out and the game ... leaves you on your own. Almost completely. After the first hour, I was ready to throw my controller at the screen. Until I figured out that that was the point. It's all meant to mimic the step-by-agonizingly-slow-step of learning by experience that our ancestors went through. The game successfully made me feel like a stupid chimp figuring out new tools. And I love it! I've been playing for hours and it's a lot of fun just going out and literally sniffing the flowers to learn about them.
