This game is criminally underrated and is extremely immersive and engaging. It is difficult to learn and master, but that is part of the point - you are playing as early human ancestors (beginning with primates) trying to figure out and navigate the world around you, attempting to survive while also trying to develop and advance through a series of evolutionary stages in the direction of humans. Pretty much everything you do in the game, such as eating different things, climbing trees, walking on the ground, getting injured, hitting two rocks together, and deciding to either fight or evade a particular predator, affects how your lineage develops and what their capabilities/traits are in subsequent evolutions. The game does a phenomenal job at drawing you in to the world and mindset of a frightened semi-intelligent animal in an overwhelming jungle at the beginning, and is a psychological journey throughout just as much as it is a journey through time and the various biomes of the game world. I recommend attempting to play it without help at the start of your first playthrough, but if like me you really struggle to figure out how to actually play the game, then there are various user-written guides online and the game's main subreddit is an invaluable resource for particular mechanics and elements of the game which you cannot figure out yourself. Don't worry, many people struggle. But that is part of the insane immersivity of the game. You are an animal starting to develop intelligence and are trying to learn how to interact with the world around you beyond just instinct. And wow is it satisfying when you do and things start making sense. This is now one of my top 5 favourite games.
