Reviews
one of the very best games of the (thankfully) highly saturated market of old school fps revival games let the game speak for itself on this one
Fantastic game. Peak level design and the unique art style could be reused in a hundred more of these shooters and I'd play them all. I still frequently think about how it feels to explore the Arcane Expanse and the Black Labyrinth.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It looks fantastic and has so much variety in the different locales you'll visit and enemies you'll be fighting. The weapons are all cool and interesting, and the soundtrack is killer too (Andrew Hulshult always delivers.) But man... It's just not very fun to play. Something went very wrong with combat in this game. The weapons don't have enough punch to them and aren't satisfying to use, the enemies are all very boring to fight and don't create engaging dynamic combat situations and there's just no "flow" to engaging monsters like in a more competently designed game like Dusk. You've seen all the game has to offer after episode 1 when it comes to gameplay mechanics, and then there are six more of them to slog through. I played on the hardest difficulty and found the game to be incredibly easy because there's nothing to really challenge the player. All of the enemies are very rudimentary and samey in their attack patterns. A good boomer shooter makes sure each enemy is unique and creates its own niche in combat and challenges you in a different way. Then the fun comes from putting them all in the same room together and making the player deal with them all at the same time. It's so disappointing because there's clearly a lot of talent with the devs here, but they need to go back to the drawing board and study the classics a little harder when it comes to designing a game with solid movement and engaging combat that actually feels fun to play.
Amid Evil is medival fantasy doom and that premise alone was enough to hook me on the first impression and the more I played the more I fell in love with both this games artstyle and genuine uniqueness from anything I have seen in the market for "boomer shooters". The story goes you are the champion chosen by the gods to save their lands from primordial evil seeping within. Accomponied only by your trusty weapon the Axe of the Black Labyrinth you decimate and desecrate evildoers in your path in the pursuit of cleansing these lands of the wicked venturing from Astral Equinox to the endless void below. The arsenal is genuinely so fun. Every weapon is chefs kiss, Whisper's Edge is my personal favourite. Such creative and cleaver takes on the classic weapon arsenal in the boomer shooter genre. (The BFG Equivelant in this game I shant spoil its something to behold yourself) The score and art design is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ASTOUNDING. Every track feels borderline ethereal and grand as you traverse through the stages and the enviornments are designed so wonderfully its just a marvel to just stand and stare. This game also has ray tracing which is utterly ridiculous. I def recommend this to anyone looking for a fresh take on the boomer shooter genre and anyone with a knack for fantasy designs as this game excels at those. 8/10
Amid Evil is yet another New Blood FPS and while I think it's definitely the weakest of the trilogy, it's still a pretty fun boomer shoot. You go through various fantasy worlds to slay their champions who've gone to the dark side (turned evil) to restore the lands or something idk. The game is certainly fun but has drawbacks, some of the enemies are pretty annoying, the weapons aren't stellar tbh, some of the levels don't do too much. For positives, the game looks ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ beautiful, no visual complaints at all, some of the levels can be incredibly unique and the bosses might be some of the best bosses in the FPS trilogy. The DLC is also pretty good and a big step up from the base game, absolutely recommended if you want more. Overall, Amid Evil doesn't do absolutely tons that you can't get in other shooters, but is still a pretty fun simple shooter, I will also admit I haven't sunk quite as much a biblical number of hours into the game as the other games in the trilogy, so I can't speak with too much authority.
Ill give it a half cautious recommend. Looks better than it actually plays, its very one note, but then again maybe that's the point.
A solid boomer shooter, a real litmus test for the average gamer. Do you like good shooters? Then you'll like this. The one thing this game has overs is its unique artstyle. Maps/enemies are varied and visually interesting, and the weapons are dripping in medieval style.
extreme negative aura + horrible gamefeel play Wrath: Aeon of Ruin instead
Amazing game with great graphics, highly recommend.
