I'm really mixed on this game. I followed it because it was listed as a Metroidvania, so keep that in mind as I make my comments. 1. Graphics and sound are fine. I had no issues with the art style or sound. It's a 2D platformer, and it felt modern enough, even with stylized graphics. 2. Controls: overall the controls felt really good. I was glad to see controller support for my preferred controller, and it also allowed customization of controls if needed. 3. Difficulty. There were some strange difficulty spikes at certain points, sometimes in terms of number of enemies in a crowded space, and some where very long platforming sections required you to start over if you made one mistake. There is also a strange mechanic where killing enemies produces "chaos" orbs which you collect, and as you collect more orbs, the enemies become more difficult. There is really only one reason to collect Chaos, and you can work around it by buying a potion which gives you max chaos, which is what I suggest for the areas where you actually need it. Otherwise, the enemies are needlessly difficult, and it just doesn't make much sense. Maybe this was supposed to be fleshed out into something more, but the Dev team didn't really make anything unique or interesting out of this mechanic. I was playing on the 2nd difficulty out of 4, so it could be easier by one level for someone wanting less challenge. 4. There isn't much depth. The economy is basically collecting shards or an occasional temporary power up. What do you use the shards for? Buying more temporary power ups. There are 3 unique power ups throughout the game. One of them is an extra life point, which is definitely worth purchasing. One is something I thought would be plot related but does absolutely nothing at all except earn you an achievement. The last one is for fun and gives you a funny plot scene. 5. There is no other way to gain gear, level up, or advance your character outside of the game giving you abilities that you need a certain points to progress. There are some optional abilities you can earn through special "bells" that can be activated when you are at maximum chaos level, but again, the temporary power up to max your chaos will help you achieve that prerequisite. The abilities you gain from the "bell" challenges are nice, but not necessary to complete the game. 6. The story is about what I'd expect it to be for a game of this style. It's not the best story you've ever experienced, but you wouldn't expect that in a Metroidvania or platformer anyway. 7. Length: The game is rather short. Some other reviews mentioned that the dev team was swapped up halfway through game development, so maybe that's why we were left with a shorter game, but if you want something that will last 50+ hours, this is NOT your game. I beat it with 16 hours on my save file, but that includes a ton of AFK time as well, so I'm not sure what the real game time was. 8. Polish. The game was bug free and looked great for me. I know some people mentioned bugs in the game or graphical glitches, but I didn't expect any of that. I was actually quite impressed with how smooth the gameplay was. 9. Finally, I was following this game forever because it looked to be a promising Metroidvania, and it's not one at all. It's just a 2D platformer, and I can see that the Metroidvania tag has been removed from the game. It's just a 2D platformer, so I was let down because that's not what I was expecting from when the game was first announced to when it was first released. That's probably my fault for not following the development of the game closely enough. Verdict: wait for a sale or to see if the devs release an expansion or content pack to add more value to the game. Otherwise, the game doesn't contain enough content to be worth it. On the flip side, it's only $15, so maybe it's still worth it at that price point. I wish I could give this game a neutral rating, and I can't, so I'm going to give it a thumbs up with the hope that they release additional content through a future patch.

So i fully completed the game 100% explored pretty much everything and i still cannot recommend the game. It's not metroidvania is linear but story is predictable. The game only took me 8h to complete and i saw some area not even completed that it suppose to be something but they didn't do any entrance. I did google it. There much better games to grab regarding this type of style games. Only bug that couldn't move after being revived. But otherwise no bug if it's on high sale sure but other wise don't.
Played for about an hour so far. Really like the art style, especially the backgrounds. They look great and make each area feel different. The enemy designs are also pretty nice.Haven't run into any bosses yet, so I guess they're still ahead. I'm not really following the story that closely, but the gameplay is fun enough that I just keep going. So far, it's been a good experience. I'd recommend giving it a try if you like platformers.
Meh. 1. Why am I taking damage just from trying to jump on top of one of the stone gates/arches (Torii gate)? It's just a platform and there's nothing to indicate that it's dangerous. How dumb is that? 2. My first conversation with someone and my character only responds with "..." three times in a row? (and not for comedic purposes either). So why show her dialog box at all in that situation, why not just let the other character keep talking? 3. The impact/hit sound effects are usually weak and limp sounding. 4. In the Settings menu when navigating with the Steam controller, the game menu occasionally thought I was trying to exit the menu and would sometimes pop up a dialog box about whether to "save settings" or "reset" settings. Even though I wasn't trying to exit the settings menu. 5. Also, what if I just want to cancel any newly-changed settings but not "reset" all settings back to their default? Why is there no "cancel" option in the dialog box? 6. When I press down and jump to jump to a lower platform, she just drops with the same 'standing still' pose as though the platform suddenly disappeared. There no animation to show her actually jumping to the lower platform. 7. The game wants me to put some spell or potion into a slot, but the UI is confusing and it's not clear how to do this or change it. The UI on that screen is unintuitive and doesn't respond how I think it should respond. Unfortunately, that was the last straw for me.
I might still keep an eye on this for future updates but for now, I think it's in a weird spot where it's not really a good metroidvania but more of an action platformer (the former I love, the latter I tend to not), but it's pretending to be a metroidvania so I don't think it even is a great action platformer. The art is fairly pretty overall. The platforming and stuff is very floaty but feels decent if you don't mind that (I don't). I'm just not feeling compelled to continue. The world itself seems like there's something interesting in the lore but the writing is pretty rough, some of the stiffness probably comes from translation but even trying to assume the best version of what they meant it's not great. As someone else said, part of the problem for me is there's no real reason to explore. It's ultimately very linear and there's nothing to use the money you find on except potions, and potions and money are the only thing you find exploring. The ability unlock with the bells sounds like a neat idea on paper but it basically just makes you cheese it by farming enemies that respawn every screen transition quickly. It's like... it's OK. From a pure technical standpoint, I think it's competent but I didn't run into any bugs in my time. I think the design choices of the gameplay don't interest me and right now with so much to play and so many other indie games coming out they're not all going to resonate with everyone and this one misses me. Edit: Forgot to say, one of the things that drew me to the game initially to buy it before any reviews really landed was the martial arts / staff for fighting, since I think those are both under utilized in game spaces, and that's probably my favorite part of the game even though the combat thus far has been incredibly basic. Just having that theme is nice.
Runs fine, looks good, got 20 minutes in before I'd had enough of all the characters being unlikable jerks
