Age of Wonders: Planetfall

Took me some time to wrap my head around it but it's very fun. I had no understanding of the mechanics before and really didn't take the time to learn it, which was my folly. After a bit of online reading and actually taking my time instead of mindlessly hitting 'end turn', it's actually a rather nice gem. Make friends with whatever AI is there as best you can, forge alliances, and try to accomplish your faction objectives while fending off the wildlife. I think the only gripe I have is the power of the 'wild' factions. At some later stage you'll get given a quest of removing a roaming stack and they'll have 2k of power. Bruh. I just let it fail, would take expensive turns to get all that back.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall - Got this from Humble Bundle back in 2020 with six other games for 14€ i think(?) As someone who had played the third one in the series, i reaally had a hard time getting into this, maybe it was the scifi setting, the somewhat bland factions, the secret techs or the different types of damage types that i never really understood that really confused me. Maybe it was the fact that i started with the bore of a campaign that i didnt stick with Planetfall years back? But the truth is i do prefer swords, bow and magic more. But i dont think it was even this that didnt get me into this title in the series, i think its more the fact that i was not into the tactical combat it feels like a bore for some reason & its pretty advisable to do everything manually to get the best results so you kind of have to deal with it. Buuut the combat is super forgiving so if you automate the battle and dont like the results you can go in manually & in the tactical manual fights you can automate it to see what the AI would do and correct it. In addition to this theres the music/sounds/ambience that didnt hook me at all, especially in tactical battles the sounds felt so bland. Soo what did i enjoy in Aow Planetfall so much in the year 2024? Well the maps are highly detailed loved them, the hook of one more turn was very much present & doomsday weapons victory condition was a nice reason to go into the secret techs. There were factions like the Assembly, Syndicate & Amazons that i had not really played back in the day so got a better understanding of their roaster of units and playstyles. Maybe its the fact that i constantly feel like i am understanding and learning more with this game that keeps the "one more turn" mentality in addition to just painting the map in my color heh.

This is a pretty good make of Age of Wonders. If you like 4X games, this is definitely a game I appreciate and recommend. Easy to get into, enjoy, and conquer!

한줄요약 패독맛 똥겜임 Why? 많이 부족함 지형적 한계나 내가 부족한걸 없앨 수단이 없음 겜 자체가 상당히 지루하다고 느낄 수 있음 정책이나 이런게 직관적이지 않을뿐더러 전술스킬이랍시고 쓰는것들이 그닥 효과가 뛰어나지 않음 멀티를 생각하고 만들었으면 효과가 강하지 않는게 맞는데 뭐랄까 토탈워 흉내를 내려고 한 건 아롔는데 뭔가 턴제 토탈워라 너무 애매함... 각 스킬들로 부여하는 디버프, 버프에 대한 설명이 인겜에서 바로바로 확인할 수 없음 유닛들 30딜만 넘어가면 웬만하면 원콤남 AI들 전략은 물량 원툴이라 항상 같은 양상으로 흘러감 특정 종족들 밸런스가 과도하게 높은듯 다른 종족 유닛들도 쓸수 있다보니 운 없으면 나는 단일 종족인데 적은 다구리 치는 느낌임 AI들 보통인데도 호전성이 상당함 근처에만 가면 입에 거품뭄 해양 유닛은 없다시피하고 그닥 강하지도 않음 잘큰 지상유닛6카드가 전함 6카드 갈아 먹을 수 있음 공군이라고 있긴한데 뭐랄까 전투기나 이런게 아니라 드론이나 지상에 부유하는 느낌임 후반 약탈자들이 말도 안되게 강함 혼자 2000넘는 전투력의 6카드짜리가 자꾸 주변에 스폰되는데 후반 습격 끄는걸 추천함 따라서 문명이나 토탈워 하러가셈 겜 아직 반쯤은 덜 만들어진듯

I can't believe I beat the campaign in an 'Age of Wonders' game. I'm going INSANEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Ahem. While this game largely follows their unfortunate new trend of having factions with different colors but completely identical playstyles, the campaign's story was decent and I had a good time playing a scifi skin of age of wonders. I recommend it if you're a fan of the series.
