I don't think you can love this game if you didn't play it religiously in your formative years. It's one of the biggest pieces of junk ever made (at least on PC): shooting? not the best, camera work? not good at all, horrendous sound issues where some sounds are MUCH louder than the rest, cutscenes are recorded in extremely low framerate (and the restored ones are visibly made by running the camera with a mouse over the levels), mandatory crashes in some sections. Even the writing is bizarre. And yet I love it so. There's so much sauce in the overall aesthetic (character designs, weapons, ships, architecture, animations), the world is so interesting (if you manage to hear and understand the ambient dialogue), the music is downright insane. Levelling up equipment and abilites by using them was such a novel idea for an action shooter in 2005 (at least to me). Part of me wishes someone would pick up this game, involve the original creators, and remaster it. Fix the technical issues, fix the sound, improve controls, add subtitles to ambient dialogue, maybe even remake some of the cutscenes and improve the graphics a bit... But at the same time maybe it's for the better to leave it as is: a rushed, buggy mess made by people with a dream.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
All-time low is the lowest price we've recorded for this game since we started tracking it.

THEY THROW ROCKS !!! THEY THROW ROCKS !!! THEY THROW ROCKS !!! Only a few games from the xbox classic era that was trying to be a halo kotor hybrid this predate mass effect i seen some people compare it to mass effect but that not fare and... yes the game is dated but back in the 2000's we loved it games like this. If you grew up on the classic xbox you had this game i got the classic and this copy sitting on my tv stand and i love it. yes windows 11 makes it crash a few times but when you hear that music and you feel so powerful slinging space powers around its worth it..... if i won a jackpot id remake and carry on this saga. THEY THROW ROCKS !!!
So what we have here is a proto-Mass Effect, or Halo, with some well-known VAs (Batman Beyond's Will Friedle, Soul Reaver's Michael Bell, etc), some luscious design and more cut-scenes than you can count. They're awesome, too, depcting an alien invasion of first a starbase and then a planetside city with admirable applomb. It's hi-octane Military SF for the ages. BUT. The game is seriously old, has aged very badly, and despite vaulting ambitions might have bitten off more than it can chew in terms of gameplay. It feels rough and crude to play, missing decades of QoL features that will put off all but the pluckiest gamers. Worse, it's kinda buggy. Next-scene triggers can misfire, maning you're running around aimlessly forcing a reload, or become trapped forcing a reload. Thankfully, constant auto-saving is one of the game's saving graces. The game actually now includes a Fan Patch by default which did a lot of the heavy lifting getting the game running again but that did nothing for the creaky, early-3D gameplay, the venerable and capable Unreal Tournament engine pushed out of its comfort zone into Third-Person 3D. The control scheme and camera are also desperately needing updating, and while you can get a gamepad working it's still somewhat hard to control. It's also an uneven game. The early sections where you have human or alien weaponry against the invading hordes, can be tricky and frustrating to get through. THEN you get alien powers and suddenly the game becomes ridiculously easy. It goes straight from shooter to power fantasy without much inbetween. I had a brilliant time with this back in the day but in the modern gaming landscape it will really struggle to find an audience.
This ..... game ...... ROCKS !!!!!
I knew nothing about the game. I just liked the cover art and bought it. So far, so good.
It's an old game that is not optimized for play on modern hardware. It works just fine on OGXBOX or XEMU, it feels clunky on PC.

I bought this game thinking it would be a nice nostalgia trip from my child hood but that quickly wore off a couple hours in, when this game first came out it was touted as a "Halo killer" that couldn't be the farthest thing from the truth. The graphics are subpar even for 2005, the story is lack luster and not all there with huge inconsistencies and plot holes, the pc port controls are absolutely atrocious, the sounds design while good can be easily broken, and the list goes on. It really begins to show its age and lack of polish and concise direction from the developers the more you play, being soft locked out of certain points in a mission that are required to progress the game becomes a consistent problem and very game breaking. The studio that developed this game is no longer in business with very good reason, at launch there was a million dollar prize competition if you complete the game first, they failed to follow through on that, which may have lead to their demise as a studio to begin with aside from the atrocity that is Advent Rising. In my honest opinion its a hard pass even for a nostalgia fueled fever dream, not worth the space on your dive and definitely not worth the $10 it's listed at or any sale price it may drop down to.
