Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown

Very fun arcade game shame the multiplayer is dead and basically infested with cheaters. Story- 8.5/10 (i enjoyed it tough its pretty short) Gameplay- 9/10 (full of adrenaline with good game mechanics) Game design and visuals- 7/10 (pretty good but there was plenty of room for improvment) Overall- 8/10 Grab it when on discount it will be a great adition to your library for some quick cheap fun.
For those unfamiliar, the Ace Combat series answers that age-old question: What if Top Gun was an anime? The answer is absurdly over-the-top aerial battles, impossible superweapons, melodramatic characters, and some of the most exhilarating arcade flight combat you’ll ever play. Ace Combat 7 absolutely nails what matters most: flying. Every mission is a thrill, and the dogfights are consistently exhilarating. Weaving through clouds while dodging a wall of incoming missiles never gets old. It’s easy to pick up, challenging enough to stay engaging, and backed by one of the best soundtracks I’ve heard in a game. The music doesn’t just complement the action—it makes it memorable. The aircraft roster is fantastic, ranging from iconic real-world fighters to futuristic superplanes. I wasn’t as fond of the progression system, though. The aircraft tree often forces you to unlock planes and upgrades you don’t care about just to reach the ones you actually want, making progression feel unnecessarily restrictive. I also wish the loadout system were a bit more flexible instead of tying each aircraft to a relatively limited selection of special weapons. Ironically, the game’s biggest weakness is also where it has some of its best ideas. Ace Combat 7 explores compelling themes: the cost of war, nationalism, the increasing role of autonomous drones, and whether heroes still have a place on the modern battlefield. Unfortunately, those ideas are buried beneath confusing storytelling. The narrative constantly jumps between characters, relies on lengthy and boring monologues, and floods missions with radio chatter that often distracts from the action instead of enriching it. In every cutscene, I found myself reaching for my pillow. Despite those flaws, I had a great time. The flying is simply too good, the soundtrack is phenomenal, and every successful dogfight leaves you wanting one more mission. If the storytelling had been as polished as the gameplay, this could have been an all-time classic. Score: 8/10

Fantastic addition to the series, I'll keep it quick and simple. Gorgeous aircraft and graphics, very fun gameplay and some of the best music in the game. Decent plot too. Only negatives I can think of are ones that come form the story so SPOILERS AHEAD: **We're never given a reason as to why Erusea invaded its neighbors, many plot holes are ignored and we're distracted from them with the spectacle of the combat and battles, like how did the princess survive a missile exploding so close to her? Did everyone choose to ignore the gun-cam or helmet footage when President Harling was killed? There 100% had to be footage of the drones appearing outta nowhere. Who is massacring these civilians and why? How in the world did anti-satellite missiles launched by jets reach high enough to destroy the entire network above Usea and then damage and destroy even more across the globe? Would've needed more missiles for that and for there to be wind in space to damage the other ones. Plus Osea relies so much on satellites they dont have any immeadiate ground cables, which you could chock up to them being over confident in themselves. The anti-war message is done well here imo with multiple instances in the story cutscenes and gameplay where we discover war crimes (from both sides I think). One of my favorites being on an island enar the elevator where on the radio we hear Usean forces discover massacred civilians and them being horrified and just trying their best to tell the truth and give them the respect they deserve. (I cant remember all the details its been a while). Anyways if you want to get into Ace Combat this is 100% one of the best games in the series to do so, its what happened for me, and I've now already played Ace combat 4, 5 and Zero will be next!
