About
You are not the hero. You are in charge.
In Acceptable Losses, you are the officer behind the line. You make the calls. You assign the missions. You sign the forms while your men bleed for inches of mud.
Each day brings new orders. Send squads on patrols, trench repairs, wiring parties, or assaults.
At night, face the paperwork. Read incident reports. Review medical updates. Scan intelligence briefings. Hope reinforcements arrive on time.
Balance your duty to HQ with the lives of the men under your command. Survive twenty days. That is all they ask. Perform well and gain influence to tilt conditions to your favor. Perform poorly and they take them back.
Deliver acceptable results and you may be ordered Over the Top. Survive the assault and you will be tasked with holding the captured trenches until replacements arrive. Fail, and you will be held responsible.
Over 60 missions ranging from routine trench duty to full assaults
Every Mission has at least 6 Outcomes
Over 120 mid mission events that shift outcomes in real time
Over 30 night events affecting squads, supplies, and trench conditions
Over 15 modifiers including morale, fatigue, weather, and enemy readiness
Randomly generated soldiers with unique names and birthplaces
Permanent death within your squads
Join missions personally for a leadership boost, but risk injury
HQ evaluations that determine your standing and whether you earn the chance to go Over the Top

there's still lack of content, short gameplay.

Acceptable losses is a wonderful attempt at trying to simulate the harshness of WWI. I found the content style unique and was greatly drawn to it after seeing the demo However after playing the game for 6 hours, I cannot recommend it for the following reasons:- 1) Randomness of missions - Imo missions should not be random except the ones given by HQ directly (for example - Inspection for Secret Mission). I should not be praying to the Gods for resupply or recover dead missions when my supply is low. I should be able to make that choice myself. Or reinforce barbed wire missions I should be able to authorise if my defences are weak. It feels like my review depends less om my performance as a commander and more on Rngesus 2) Success rates for 1 star missions need to be higher - My weakest critique but I have failed a bunch of these. Imo unless you have squads at triple red, you should be autopassing these. These are a good way of recovering stats for squads 3) Morale punishments and incidents NEED to be toned down - I have been getting MULTIPLE "---" morale incidents that absolutely wrecks my squad's morals. I fail the game because my squad goes from Ready and Firm to Shaky way to quickly. If bad moral events can't be dealt with, at least have a recovery room where we can put shaken solders in where they can rest for a day instead. 4) Manual control of which squads can be taken into battle and assigned to missions - We should be able to choose whether to take all squads into battles. If a squad has too many troops that have bad stats, it should be rested. 5) The autofail feature needs to be curtailed or removed if we cannot choose missions as stated in point 1. It really is disheartening for me to choose to autofail a rat catching mission which would be very useful IF I DID NOT HAVE 3 MANDATORY MISSIONS AND A SUPPLY MISSION I NEEDED TO TAKE DESPERATELY. If autofails are here to stay, please at least remove or reduce the mandatory mission amounts to 1 per day. The game has a lot of Megumi and with some features and fixes it can genuinely be great. I hope some of these points are taken into consideration for the next patch by the devs.
I'm going to begrudgingly give this one a negative review. I really like the idea behind this game. Also since I'm a huge fan of history and especially war - this could definitely have that feel... if worked on for a lot longer. I'm not really sure why history wasn't drawn upon more for this game. For the game itself: We need more ways to mitigate the spiral of doom. Once you have a few failed missions especially at the beginning then the run is basically over. There has to be more ways to mitigate the RNG factor. Perhaps being able to promote veteran guys within your own unit giving way for them to have slightly better morale. Maybe allow your commander to have 1 on 1's with specific guys? SOMETHING Bonds between soldiers are talked about but aren't shown between each specific other soldier(s)... perhaps allowing them to be deadly despite having low morale? I kind of have an idea of how this works but then I don't at the same time?? I'm still unsure how to get a citation better than the first. What actually qualifies? Also, before each mission allow us to see what positive and negative modifiers could happen. That would be extremely helpful in deciding where to go. To be honest, the more you play, you will know what missions will do what eventually... so why not show it?? This game leaves a lot of question marks and therein lies the biggest issue for a lot of people about this game - including myself
It’s so nice to take my mind off the horrors of everyday life by diving headfirst into the horrors of WWI. I just hope WWIII doesn’t come too soon, because I’m not sure I have what it takes for that. I was responsible for a hundred deaths—practically every mission I took part in failed. 10/10 I definitely recommend it!
The game is unplayable until balancing is better perfected. The only consequences that seem to stack and have impact are negative ones. Once a soldier is broken they effectively become useless until you slowly slide towards all soldiers degrading with little ability to fix them until you eventually lose from lack of able units.
You're at the mercy of the game. Proper delegation doesn't matter, just pray the game doesn't decide to screw you by withholding missions needed to resolve issues or randomly killing off your entire squads, which it frequently does.
