Acceptable Losses is a short, replayable WWI command and management game. Lead squads through a brutal 20 day campaign, balancing morale, fatigue, cohesion, and the paperwork of war. Perform well enough and you may be ordered Over the Top, where success leads to a second act holding captured ground.

About
You are not the hero. You are in charge.
In Acceptable Losses, you are the officer behind the line. You make the calls. You assign the missions. You sign the forms while your men bleed for inches of mud.
Each day brings new orders. Send squads on patrols, trench repairs, wiring parties, or assaults.
At night, face the paperwork. Read incident reports. Review medical updates. Scan intelligence briefings. Hope reinforcements arrive on time.
Balance your duty to HQ with the lives of the men under your command. Survive twenty days. That is all they ask. Perform well and gain influence to tilt conditions to your favor. Perform poorly and they take them back.
Deliver acceptable results and you may be ordered Over the Top. Survive the assault and you will be tasked with holding the captured trenches until replacements arrive. Fail, and you will be held responsible.
Over 60 missions ranging from routine trench duty to full assaults
Every Mission has at least 6 Outcomes
Over 120 mid mission events that shift outcomes in real time
Over 30 night events affecting squads, supplies, and trench conditions
Over 15 modifiers including morale, fatigue, weather, and enemy readiness
Randomly generated soldiers with unique names and birthplaces
Permanent death within your squads
Join missions personally for a leadership boost, but risk injury
HQ evaluations that determine your standing and whether you earn the chance to go Over the Top

First run played as an aggressive leader focused on promotion and results. By day 11 my squads were mangled and I was relieved of duty. Second run played conservatively and focused on my men. Back to back days of gas attacks and my unit was relieved from the front lines. Third run played conservatively and my unit had lady luck on our side. We successfully advanced and held the trench with minimal casualties and were relieved by reinforcements on the 20th day. This game captures what I believe it felt like to be a lower commissioned officer on the front lines of WW1. Every minute you are on the front lines could be your last and you can't wait to get rotated to the rear or promoted to a more survivable position. You can be the best leader that has ever blessed the trenches but the reality and lethality of industrialized warfare doesn't care about that. You can have the most elite troops but your dugout loses the artillery lottery. Things I would like to see in an update: Increased death chance for the player character The game would be easier if you weren't 20 full days on the firing line and had some relief to the reserve trenches make a single campaign 21 days - 7 days firing trench, 6-7 days reserve trench, major offensive day, 7 days captured trench (if offensive successful)

Is there an easy mode?
It's a cool idea, just not great execution. RNG controls most of the outcomes for events, and it is far too easy to death spiral when the RNG kills off one too many men or constantly fails trench repair or resupply missions despite one star difficulty. Content is okay? You can experience 90% of the events in the first hour or two, but it's just enough that you don't find yourself wishing for that much more. I hope later patches will retune the RNG and rebalance some aspects, (awarding soldiers medals is almost useless), but for the price tag, it's not a bad deal, all things considered.
I really enjoy the game and i really wanna care for my soldiers, i just wish there was more, basically same amount of conent as the demo which is rather disappointing
Nice game. But would suggest some kind of campaign or longer mission
Somewhat straightforward to learn, and perhaps it cannot be "mastered". But this game is a gem for that 'sense of achievement' when things come together. It's almost a casual game, yet simultaneously quite profound.
