Tomcuk has a strong track record in the indie horror space, but this is easily the weakest entry I’ve played so far. The game suffers first and foremost from poor optimization. Even on a capable system, I couldn’t break past 30–35 FPS, which drags down immersion in a genre that depends heavily on pacing and atmosphere. Frame drops are constant, and the sluggish performance undermines every attempt the game makes to build tension. The scares feel flat and overly scripted. Instead of organic tension, everything plays out like a checklist—walk here, trigger a noise; turn this corner, trigger a shadow. It never creates that sense of dread Tomcuk’s other games handle well. The result is a horror experience that feels hollow and predictable. Gameplay-wise, it leans into the walking simulator formula, which can work, but here it’s reduced to narrow, linear paths with no room for exploration or discovery. It's short, restrictive, and offers very little engagement outside of moving forward. There’s no payoff, no standout moment, and no real atmosphere to carry the experience. I’ve enjoyed Tomcuk’s previous titles for their sound design, atmosphere, and bite-sized tension, but Abandoned Souls misses the mark on all fronts. It feels rushed, underdeveloped, and technically unstable. Still, I’ll happily play whatever he releases next—this one just wasn’t it.

It's not scary, I'd even say it's a bit boring. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it.

Эта игра про неадекватного блохера, который пошел в лес и психбольницу записать видео для папищиков =)) Напомнило фильм психиатрическая больница Конджиам, Такая же шляпа как эта игра (без обид к разработчику) Вся суть игры тыкаться в стенки без фонарика и все, и звуковая сопровождающая со скримерами Если быть серьезным, я тыкался, тыкался, бродил и не выдержал, удалил игру Не рекомендую!

Seriously this is a troll game... what type of urban explorer goes out with 1 rubbish torch that goes out 5 mins into the game and is literally pitch black? There is zero explanation where to go and when i put the graphics up to "Epic" they look horrendous even though it is supposed to be a VHS recording, i wanted to like this game i really did, but man what is this dev thinking?

Ive played over 250 horror games on steam. This is the worst one by far. Its unplayable. The beginning to this game is so awful and misjudged its unbelievable. You start in darkness with a crap torch and no map. Its all as blurry as hell as the graphics are so rough, so you cant see nothing and the background looks the same wherever you look - its all blurry forest crap. Game begins and instantly asks you to find an unspecified object. No getting used to the game, the story etc. Just straight into pure ♥♥♥♥. Ive made 3 attempts to play this game. Spent about an hour in total on those 3 tries just wandering around a ♥♥♥♥♥♥, blurry map, cant see ♥♥♥♥, cant do ♥♥♥♥. AVOID THIS GAME. ITS AIDS. If you want to play it you would have to watch a youtube video just to see where you need to go and then it would still be hard.
