ZOMBIE Disaster Drill offers an amusingly unconventional spin on the overcrowded zombie genre by treating an undead outbreak as something people could theoretically prepare for through organized disaster training. Developed and published by MAGES. Inc., the game places players inside a fictional Disaster Prevention Center where zombie emergencies become structured exercises rather than the foundation for a traditional survival-horror campaign. The result is a deliberately quirky mixture of point-and-click puzzling, environmental interaction, dark comedy, and disaster-preparedness parody. Instead of handing the player an arsenal of firearms, the game encourages improvisation with whatever happens to be nearby. Ordinary objects can become surprisingly useful when a zombie is approaching, and discovering how to use them is a major part of each challenge. Items such as brooms, trash cans, wheelchairs, and other everyday objects may provide ways to attack, defend, distract, create distance, or otherwise escape danger. This makes observation more important than reflexes. Finding an object is only the beginning because players must still determine how it fits into the situation. The point-and-click structure makes these interactions easy to understand without removing the need for experimentation. Players inspect their surroundings, collect potentially useful items, and apply them where they believe they will work. Some solutions are intentionally ridiculous, fitting the game's comedic interpretation of zombie survival. The simplicity of the controls should make the experience approachable even for people who rarely play action games, while the environmental problem solving gives more experienced players something to think about. Its collection of 33 stages helps prevent the central concept from being confined to a single setting. Disaster drills occur in locations including schools, hospitals, and shopping malls, allowing each environment to introduce different objects and circumstances. The game also incorporates activities beyond straightforward item selection, including challenges involving actions such as jumping and hitting. These variations give the campaign the feeling of progressing through an increasingly elaborate zombie preparedness course rather than repeatedly solving the exact same type of puzzle. Progression is appropriately connected to the training-center premise. Completing exercises builds the player's disaster-prevention knowledge and expands the available manuals, with the ultimate objective of earning the fictional Zombie Disaster Prevention Mastery License. It is a humorous way of providing an overarching goal to a collection of individual scenarios. The game essentially treats surviving impossible undead emergencies with the seriousness of completing a professional certification course, and much of its personality comes from that contrast. The visual direction reinforces the lighter atmosphere. Rather than pursuing photorealistic horror, it uses colorful 2D artwork with a hand-drawn, anime-influenced appearance. This makes environments easier to examine while also allowing the developers to exaggerate dangerous situations for comedic effect. Despite the playful presentation, the game still contains zombie-related violence, including blood, injuries, severed limbs, and disaster imagery. These elements are generally framed as dark humor rather than an attempt to create relentless terror. That distinction is important for anyone approaching it specifically because of the zombie theme. This is not designed around scarce ammunition, extensive resource management, open-world scavenging, or frightening encounters with unpredictable enemies. Its zombies primarily function as problems that need creative solutions. Players wanting serious survival horror may therefore find the experience too casual, whereas those who enjoy unusual puzzle games and macabre comedy are much closer to the intended audience. The relatively straightforward design could also create limitations over longer periods. Puzzle scenarios naturally become less mysterious once their solutions have been discovered, meaning replayability will depend heavily on alternative interactions, achievements, experimentation, and the player's desire to revisit completed exercises. With 33 stages, there is enough room for the central idea to develop, but players expecting an enormous campaign or endlessly replayable survival system should keep their expectations appropriate. Steam Deck prospects are encouraging, although an official Steam Deck Verified or Playable designation is not currently indicated. The game provides full controller support, and its uncomplicated interaction-focused gameplay is well suited to handheld controls. Its listed SteamOS/Linux information also references Proton, further suggesting that portable operation has been considered. Even so, without an official compatibility badge, it is more accurate to describe Steam Deck compatibility as potentially suitable rather than fully certified. Individual performance or interface issues may still be possible. Overall, ZOMBIE Disaster Drill succeeds most strongly through originality rather than complexity. Turning zombie survival into a disaster-preparedness class gives familiar undead scenarios a refreshing comedic identity, while environmental puzzles encourage players to think about mundane objects in entertaining ways. The accessible controls, varied locations, compact challenges, distinctive artwork, and absurd certification premise combine into something considerably different from a standard zombie shooter. It may not satisfy players seeking deep combat or frightening survival mechanics, but its approachable puzzle structure and unusual sense of humor make it an appealing alternative for anyone tired of conventional zombie games.
"toilet paper doesn't make a good weapon." 🟩 cute 🔷 silly 🔴 replaying stages can be annoying 🖤🖤🖤 loops: collect-a-thon, the collectables being the various interactions/events/failures on each stage to fill out your disaster handbook states: cleared all chapters, entries, achievements ramblings: cute clean presentation and emulation of government disaster preparedness pamphlet style. this is very much a sort of silly game about intentionally doing stuff wrong on purpose, collecting all the weird various ways you can die or progress the stage. · you can only skip the intro animation of a stage, all other animations and transitions can't be skipped or sped-up. and each chapter will contain multiple stages. so if you're missing stuff in stage 3? you'll need to re-do the previous stages, and you may need to do this multiple times. it also only count as collected after you finish the chapter, so if you're missing something in stage 1? need to finish all the stages. so this is a game that encourages and revolves around replaying of levels in order to get all the entries, but doesn't have quality of life features like selecting specific stages or skipping stuff you've already seen, etc. it's... a little frustrating. · the chapter where you play as the dog was super cute, i wish it had gone on a bit longer and had more to do, except for the side scrolling jumping stage which was janky and imprecise as all. · there's no hint system for missing entries. this is rarely a problem, but there was definitely a few where i had no idea what i was supposed to do to unlock the entry. verdicts: it's cute, i liked it, but there's definitely parts that weren't thought out well or polished properly and for a collect-a-thon became irritating scores: 🧟♀️ out of ⛑️ on 🖥️ https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3803186355
