i've played ygo since i was 9 yrs old, back when it was just the physical card game, and the game has evolved so much from when i was a kid. i was hoping to play against ppl on my skill lvl but found that just like with any other strategy game or any game with any challenge, the game has devolved into a cookie cutter meta that deviation from usually doesn't end well. which was rly disheartening since it means a lot of cards simply aren't utilized unless u are going for a suboptimal deck the game has become a lot deeper in the years i wasn't playing, not sure if this was the ygo game i played online as a teenager, but i have always loved ygo, i just feel intimidated seeing all the elite builds and how ppl play compared to when i was younger. there are so many new mechanics and cards to learn that watching videos to try to learn is like jumping head first into a chemistry book without the fundamentals before it to help me to understand. it's a lot to take in all at once i do rly enjoy watching others duel still but i feel like i'm not on the lvl of skill that is required to be able to do decently well to play this game, so i quit almsot immediately after i started. i'm still passionate about ygo but i feel like it might not be for me. as for the game itself, i enjoyed the point mechanics and wish there was a way to get individual cards. i saw ppl saying the start decks aren't great so it doesn't matter what you choose, which is disappointing, because that was something i loved about starter decks growing up, figuring out what best fit your playstyle. as a kid strategy was not my strength, i think there was only one time i ever beat my older brother in a duel
