Your Future Self

This game feels like a visual novel that was a bit insecure about its lack of pictures, and so compensated for it by tacking on a somewhat pointless feeling stat system that doesn't do much except force you to replay small bits of the game several times. Still, it has a unique narrative that you interact with in a way that's more interesting (and more relevant to the plot) than just reading a book or short story.

If you're just looking for a quick answer, yes, I recommend this. It's short but enjoyable. It's a rather short novel, if you can call it that (or maybe RPG?). It functions much like a visual novel, providing you some choices, but unlike other visual novels, you're actively deciding how you want to respond to your future self in order to learn more about what happened in the future and their involvement. Instead of specific dialogue options, you're given the choice to respond rationally (logicing it out), empathically (sympathizing with something your future self confessed), or with ambition (showing strong beliefs/confidence in how you feel about the situation). Succeeding in this will net you some points to your three stats, which (I believe, don't quote me) make it easier to succeed in certain prompts (for example, if you select an empathical response and have high empathy points, you'll have a higher chance of getting across to your future self). As for the story itself, without going into spoiler territory, it can be very engaging, as long as you immerse yourself. The game's soundtrack (in my opinion) does this greatly, making me feel pumped up when I feel like I'm getting at something, especially in certain parts which I won't spoil. Just know the music shouldn't disappoint; quite the opposite. My only complaint is that the way to beat the game seems obscure quite often. There are multiple endings requiring you to go down multiple paths, sometimes twice or thrice (with some alteration, mind you), but if you don't know what you're doing and/or don't look up a guide for the part you're missing, it's very likely you'll get stuck in a loop (at least, that's what happened with me). Spoilers below, beware. [spoiler] An example is getting to chapters 4 and 5. I got stuck at chapter 3 where you either sympathize with your future self (which results in a force shutdown of the game if you do it two more times) or convince your future self that their actions were wrong. After convincing them at least twice (or thrice, I can't remember) (for me), you're meant to start a new game. Therein, you'll be escalated to chapter 4 because the outside group finally gives you all the details to the story, allowing you to skip past the "story-learning" and "convince" phases and straight to "I'm sick of your experiment, I demand a direct confrontation now."
