This is a very neat, imaginative game. The basic premise is interesting and it threw me for a few loops. Overall, I'm glad I played it to completion. The game is essentially an RPG with some existential dread sprinkled in. Several genres are touched on, and the game really shines when it uses different art styles and environments to portray the "level of meta" that you're at. It's a really good use of the medium and makes it visually interesting. I especially enjoyed it when the game touched on horror. There are a few things that the game could improve on, however. There were several moments when it didn't feel quite finished. The colliders can be a bit finicky, and NPCs have a bad habit of wandering into doorways and camping out for a few minutes. The encounter rate in certain areas was way too high, especially considering that
battling doesn't increase your XP or power in any way
. This brings me to the main problem I had with the game: the battle system itself is frustrating. It isn't exactly turn-based. Enemies can attack while you're in the menus, although you are forced to wait for them to attack before you can attack again. It is also prone to awkward pauses, and the damage done by you or to you by enemies varies greatly even in the same battle and it's never made clear why. I realize that
battling isn't the point of the game
, but it is used for every part and I think it could do with a little more polish. I think with a little more finesse, this could be a really solid RPG that makes its point well. As it is, it's worth a play. Just make sure you farm enough gold to buy good equipment at the beginning, and you should be set.

RPG Maker strikes again! You Doesn't Exist is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. This RPG Maker asset flip truly is one of the worst ever made, apart from the terrible writing and awful translation (heck, "You Doesn't Exist"? I wish this game doesn't exist!). The "developer" tried to create some kind of "meta" game where you play a person playing a game, kinda like Knights of Pen and Paper but even more crap than that. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
Rough start. The very first quest was impossible and after defeating the other apprentice I was supposed to defeat him again? Not worth the extremely slow walking speed.
