Lurk in Abyss

Lurk has moved to a new town, starts having strange nightmares, and tries to figure out what is wrong with the place. The overall premise is interesting, and I liked playing through multiple viewpoints. The gameplay feels fairly linear, with the game having you walk specific paths to reach the next goal. When I tried to explore, I was constantly met with "hmm I shouldn't be here" dialogue. It took me about 5-6 hours to play through 4 chapters and reach the "bad" ending. The puzzles were fun, though it felt inconsistent which had hints and those you had to click every item in the room to find something. There are a few missed translations from Russian to English so I had no clue what was being said. This usually happened with out of the way dialogue from secret achievements or the "bad" ending when [spoiler] the entity is speaking through our body [/spoiler]. Sound design could be balanced a bit more, but the overall soundtrack was nice. Even with everything reduced in volume, there are some sound effects and background music that are harsh on the ears. The [spoiler] jump mechanic [/spoiler] felt strangely placed, and it only gets used in a few limited areas after you obtain it. There were several areas where I expected to be able to use it but didn't have access to it. I wish there were chapter checkpoints or ways to play certain sections again without restarting from the beginning or reloading manual saves. After I got the bad ending, I reloaded a save during the Ch, 4 [spoiler] timed chase scene [/spoiler] and found I was already locked into the bad ending no matter what I did. [spoiler] Making it to the end of the chase where the only option is to interact with the pit having the same bad outcome as letting the chase time out felt a bit frustrating. [/spoiler] There were no indications as to where or what I did wrong so I'm not even sure where I would need to start to play the final chapter and true ending. TLDR: Fun $5 indie horror game with some jank but worth a playthrough. If anyone finds out how to get to the final chapter, I might come back to finish it out.
