I started playing somewhere around the 1st anniversary. At first, I was hooked. Having played Genshin Impact since launch, I was getting bored of it, so Wuthering Waves looked like a better alternative and made a great first impression. The first region was a bit boring, but the story picked up afterwards. Over time, however, I started noticing several issues: major HP inflation in the endgame, powercreep with almost every new character release, and banner reruns happening way too fast—roughly every two months. Older characters from the launch region were completely ignored and never got a rerun, which makes sense in a way, considering they were powercrept so hard there was no point. Story gameplay offers zero challenge; its main purpose is just to showcase the newest character, make players fall in love with them, and hopefully push them to pull—or better yet for Kuro Games, spend real money. On top of that, characters rarely ever reappear in the story later on—at least during the year I played. If they show up at all, it's usually just one or two of them for a brief moment. I used to enjoy exploration, searching around for chests and solving puzzles to unlock them. Now, however, everything is marked on the map, and you can open five chests all at once. That's the kind of "Quality of Life" update that actually ruins the gameplay for me. Exploring the world and discovering things was what originally hooked me on Genshin Impact, as well as in the early regions of Wuthering Waves. But as that focus shifted, I gradually lost interest. While events were interesting at first, their quality gradually declined over time. I had fun for the first few months, but halfway through, the game turned into a chore—just like Genshin Impact. Sure, every story chapter ended on a "THAT'S CINEMA" moment, but the core gameplay just wasn't interesting anymore. The 2nd anniversary was the final straw. After finishing the latest story update, I decided I’m done wasting my time. This is officially the last gacha game I'm ever playing, as I've finally realized their true purpose: to milk the playerbase as much as humanly possible.
Cool characters
With the game now on steam I am happy but fail to see much of a difference sadly. The story is absolutely superb, character's are not too similar looking compared to certain other gacha related games. I've been able to keep up pretty well with the game as a free to play player too. Don't be ashamed if you don't have loads of cash to waste on this, you get chances. I do, however find it incredibly teeth pulling when it comes to Act 3 due it's optimization and heavy load on the academy. All in all right next to NTE this is a sure favorite of mine.
cori x aemeath when?
i was single when i started playing, still single, but totally worth it! 10/10 would recommend.
