I have around 150 hours on this game on my switch, and I can confidently say that this is the best wrestling game I have ever played(I've played a lot), and as a massive wrestling nerd, it is truthfully one of my favorite games of all time.
Great gameplay? Check. An amazing career mode? Check. GM mode? Check. Good character creator? Check. An open world? Check. Going Hollywood like The Rock to film a movie? Check. Murdering and cutting off the limbs of your rivals? Check. And theres so. Much. More.
This game is fantastic. While playing, I'll often accidentally chain a move into another move and lose my mind over how amazing it felt. I've been playing a career mode with the same wrestler for over 10 in game years and still haven't gotten bored of it. That should say something about how FUN this game is!! It perfectly embraces the silly, goofy, campy side of wrestling, while simultaneously being one of the most realistic wrestling simulators you can find. The gameplay has depth while being fairly simple, and you can put on some really good, dramatic back and forth matches, while also being arcadey enough that its a perfect pick up and play game. Also if you want crazy match types, you can customize anything from rules, weapons that will spawn in, interferences, if the arena is flooded with water, etc. If you want to replace the ropes with barbed wire, you can. If you want a steel cage, or a UFC octagon, you can do that. How about fill the ring with 100 sticks of dynamite and then throw 30 wrestlers inside at once? Yup, that too. The options feel endless!!
I remember accidentally destroying my bosses hand in a match and then he died from blood loss, prompting Hulk Hogan to become the new owner of the company and try to screw me over every week. And that is just one of the countless moments I've experienced in this game. I have so many stories to tell but I don't think anyone would read the whole review if I listed them. Going from a nobody on the indie scene to every promotion fighting over you feels so rewarding. And then when you've experienced a full career as a wrestler, take over your favorite company as the owner and continue your wrestlers legacy!! Now I had all this fun on the Switch version of the game. On PC you can add all the mods you want, adding even more value!! This game is an instant buy for me. Full priced or on sale, you will get your moneys worth with the amount of fun to be had. And on top of all of that, you'll be supporting a solo dev who has spent decades creating fun games that can be ran on a potato so that anyone can enjoy.
Tip: If you're attached to how your wrestler looks and what moves they perform, I'd recommend trying to get creative control on your contract every time, but its always fun to see the dumb name or costume your boss wants you to adopt.
