Wait for the aftermath edition to go on sale. this game is a banger with friends
Overall: i'm really on the fence with this game, The general gameplay loop is OKAY. But, there's quite a lot of un-fun or annoying elements that get in the way, most of which are a day-one problem that will probably never be changed. -There's always a small, noticeable level of desync, gunplay & enemy movements are the easiest to notice with this. Obviously the main aspect of the game is the horde-shooter factor, & you WILL get massive hordes, but gunning them down always feels a little unfulfilling. I think this is because the enemies don't SEEM to knock each other over when they collide or when a dead one falls onto them. The horde climbers are a bit wierd about this too, they don't NEED to climb on top of each other, but massive groups of them sell the illusion of them doing just that. Shooting the "supporting base" of the climbers, WILL knock down most of the infected, but noticeably, not ALL of them, which looks stupid when it's a flat wall or surface they shouldn't be climbing. The special infected: I don't mind being pinned down by enemies, i'm very familiar with L4D, but the specials here feel REALLY unfun, a lot of their mechanical directions are just counter-fun. -Chargers are notoriously hard to avoid damage from & VERY tanky from the front -Screamers don't need Line of Sight, NOR do they need to be anywhere close to the players, they're well known for hiding behind walls, at the other side of the current zone, or straight up out of bounds, if you pass a point of no return. -Infectors are crazy tanky, i don't get why you would make an enemy that can kill you instantly if you don't 'cure' their sickness, but simultaneously, make them require a full magazine & then some. -Gas bags & Booster zombies are alright. Crouching: This is supposed to be a way to avoid friendly fire, but if you aim your gun, your character will poke their head up into the gun-level of your teammates. Completely invalidating the purpose. The level up System: I have no qualms with the existence of this mechanic, but by god is it poorly implemented. -Character classes AND guns must each be equipped to gain XP. -Guns MUST be upgraded each level up & no XP is banked for their use until you do so. -Gun perk SLOTS are unlocked with the higher gun levels, but to add insult to injury, you NOW NEED TO UNLOCK THE PERKS THEMSELVES TOO. Communication wheel: Games like this highly benefit from communication, the game DOES have 4 callout options, but they're all bound to individual buttons, a single button prompt for a wheel selection would be more ideal IMO. -Player character voices & enemy warning sounds NEED to be rebalanced, most of the time, both of these things completely fade into general background noise. Hidden Information: -Perk activation Visibility -Cooldown Visibility -Teammate Perk Activation Visibility -Mid-Match Class Visibility
