About
THE FOREST IS FAMILIAR. YOU ARE NOT.
You don't even remember your name. In this piercing wilderness, your only weapon is the survival instinct forged by years of working deep in the wild.
NOT A SINGLE WORD OF DIALOGUE.
No one is coming to guide you. You will learn by living and observing. Captured entirely in live-action, this is an unforgiving world where the story is shaped not by words, but by those choices you make. One wrong decision or a single overlooked detail has irreversible consequences.
Wordless Narrative: No dialogue. Just you, the environment, and your actions.
The Price of Action: Your choices will lead you to 4 different endings. Some offer salvation; others, a heavy toll.
Raw Reality: A genuine survival experience filmed across the desolate forests of 4 different cities, in a biting chill, using strictly natural light.
Pure Focus: No complex puzzles or reflex tests. Only choices you must make carefully.
There was no massive crew behind this game. No backup vehicle to rush me to the city in an emergency. To capture this atmosphere, I went into the wilderness alone, carrying nothing but my backpack and my camera.
In the November cold, I waded into that numbingly cold river and filmed for hours in wet clothes. Out in the absolute nowhere with zero cell signal, a single misstep could cost me everything.
And I wasn't alone. Brown bears, wild boars, and snakes actively roamed the area.
This project wasn't fueled by a massive budget; it was born from my own real survival experience. I hope you feel that raw, unsettling isolation when you play.

This project is disgustingly underrated. 2 and a half years of solo development with 40 days spent outdoors, alone, in the wilderness of Turkey. The developer himself handled the script, directed the whole production, programmed it, edited the footage as well as starring as the lead. That kind of dedication alone is worth the support. Freezing waters, countless falls, multiple kilometer hikes for the perfect shot... This is a true passion project. If you are a fan of survivalist content or interactive movies, then Wordless Forest is for you.

No matter what issues I might have had playing, it’d be downright stupid to deny just how insanely impressive Wordless Forest is. Here we got a wholly original choose-your-own-adventure style game, made by just one guy, built up entirely out of live action footage, all filmed by that said guy, where he basically took a two month camping trip to film everything; doing all his own stunts, whether that be eating bird eggs or climbing up a cliff without a safety harness. The sheer dedication to the project alone has earned my recommendation; and thankfully, the game has plenty more to offer on top of that! Now, if you’ve ever played a Telltale game or a Dark Pictures game before, you should feel right at home here. Wordless Forest more or less plays out like a movie, where you’re watching your character do things on screen, only every couple of minutes you’ll be prompted to pick one out of two options. You hear a noise in the dark. Do you get out of your sleeping bag and go see what it is? Or do you just stay where you are and hope it goes away? hmmmmm decisions decisions. The storytelling here is pretty darn good. You learn so much about your character, what he’s good at, how he sees the world and nature around him, all without a line of dialogue. And the little bits of remembrance and PTSD flashbacks scattered throughout showing how he even got here are sold very well. Obviously, if you’re familiar with these types of games, you know there’s really only two ways to play them. You COULD try to make the right choices and see the story through; or you could… y’know, make your character into the biggest idiot ever and turn every move into a living nightmare. And Wordless Forest is pretty satisfying in both regards. First playthrough, I was all serious stuff; no nonsense, just business. But then the second time around, I was like “….y’know, I want to see what happens if I fall off this cliff”. “what happens if I intentionally mess up the coordinates and go miles the opposite direction”, “what happens if I eat this old sandwich covered in flies” (I’ll tell you what happened; I barfed it up a minute later). It’s not as entertaining as something like an all fail run of Heavy Rain, but it’s still a lot of fun; which I think is the real mark of a good choose your own adventure game. You’re having a good time regardless of if you even care what’s going on or not. Hold on, let me eat my sandwich real quick. If there’s anything that you should take away from Wordless Forest, it should probably be holy heck Dogus Cagrici you are a mad man ; as just watching the staggering amount of dangerous and quite frankly disgusting things this guy does for the sake of our entertainment is weirdly respectable. Bro really just caught a fish and no hesitation took a big bite out of it raw. You know, one of those movie star celebrity bros probably would’ve had a stunt double or made it CGI or whatever kinda computer crap , but nah, our man was just like finally some good frickin’ food. Maybe I’m trying to make this sound too funny, but I really am impressed at how much work Mr. Cagrici here did to film everything; how many miles he had to hike, all the cliffs he climbed, and especially the absolute agony that is the river scene. But I think it all paid off very well; Wordless Forest looks incredible. The scenery is nicely varied; going through the woods one moment, sneaking through a cave the next, before viewing a sunset on top of a mountain. The camera work is (usually) excellent, especially with the overhead shots and longtakes; and the first person bodycam footage during the action is crazy cool. Our main character may not have a name or anything to say, but he still feels very believable; and you gotta love some of the running jokes like how impossibly hard it is to start a fire “the old fashioned way” by rubbing sticks. Plus, this world just feels so real and alive... because it is; which sounds like a dumb thing to compliment, but look at the other games I mentioned. As much as I like the Dark Pictures Anthology and similar titles, they keep trying to do the same thing of being practically photo-realistic, and time after time they just end up with Polar Express with RTX on. They look insanely real, sure; but there’s still something that just feels… off. It’s the little things of nature, like the leaves and grass rustling after each footstep, or the way the branches bend when you push them out of the way, or the bugs buzzing all around doing their thing unscripted, that I think big budget Triple A could never fully replicate, and that something like Wordless Forest does so effortlessly. Amazing production; hope there were no lasting injuries. I started this review by saying I had a couple of issues, did I not?...let’s talk about those now. One of the biggest, most obvious problems with Wordless Forest is that it’s really short for an interactive movie game. I beat it first try good ending (I think) in only about fifty minutes. That leads to my next problem; despite playing again and basically picking the opposite of what I did last time, I somehow got the same ending again. Now, granted, I did see new paths and did get to do some things I didn’t see before; but considering I went the complete other way in some of the most pivotal moments (follow the trail of sticks VS follow the trail of pawprints), I’m really surprised it somehow just circled around again. A good number of choices didn’t really seem to matter in the long run. I used that noise in the dark example earlier, and the funny thing about that one is that no matter what you pick there, both sides will eventually switch to the same exact morning scene. (and besides, the noise was just coming from random acorns falling off a tree. so lame! ). This might be an instant turn off to some people, but I should probably point out that Wordless Forest uses (very very very little ) Al generated material; and while the director/actor/developer/everything has said that all of the footage is 100% real and that he only used Al a couple of times to make some photographic props, it still makes me wonder...why? like, you couldn’t take a video of a real dog playing with a squeaky toy? or even find a stock video? Some of the editing can feel kind of choppy, with a couple of the really quick cuts making me feel a little sick. (nothing I can’t handle; I just don’t like fast motion and shaky cam), but now I feel like I’m getting nitpicky. Most of it is good, and maybe I just have skill issues. Maybe it’s too short, maybe some of the choices really don’t lead anywhere, maybe the ending routes can be a little too obscure, but at the end of the day, I don’t care. Wordless Forest is one of the most unique games I’ve played all year, and it’s definitely worth the price of ten bucks. The stories, both in the game itself and the behind the scenes of how it was made, are really compelling; the gimmick of having no dialogue was done surprisingly well; and honestly it’s just a very beautiful game to look at. Almost makes me want to get off the computer and try going outside for once... nah, maybe tomorrow.
Beautiful to watch, but 45 mins start to end, 6-8 choice in an interactive short film. Great effort and emotional story for the dev. Its said to have multiple endings but I cant see a single reason to want to replay it. If i had waited a week and seen reviews or feed back I would have saved myself the cost. Good luck but not for me
Bro really drank from a puddle and ate a raw fish. Absolute cinema.
I was 9 minutes in and realized this is the most boring FMV game . 1 choice was given in 10 minutes and it was "follow dog tracks" or "follow sticks". The actor legit does nothing but hold a clipboard, his head hurts, and there's ants. I have absolutely no idea what is going on, this is by far the worst fmv I have ever came across. Genuinely don't waste your time. You'd think if it's a game where the dialogue is non-existant that there would be choices non stop but there isnt.
My experience was 45 minutes long and I made around 7 decisions. Mild continuity errors. Very quick shots at points, making it feel a bit jarring. I'm keeping it brief as I don't want to be mean. Disappointing.
There's not many choices in this game. I think Bandersnatch (netflix interactive episode of black mirror) has way more. It is sweet though and impressive for inide dev. Shot pretty nice.
