I just found how they "remixed" this game by making it more like the original from 1986, but deleted all the new levels, enemies, bosses and other things from "Returns" non-remix, also removing that game from store so we can't buy it. Why in this "REMIX" version, was not also that remake game with possibility to play as this Remix.

"Wonder Boy Returns Remix" for PC offers a satisfying blend of nostalgia and modern gameplay. This updated version of the classic platformer boasts charming visuals and smooth controls that make traversing its colorful levels a joy. The remix aspect injects new life into the experience, presenting fresh challenges for both newcomers and long-time fans alike. While the difficulty can ramp up at times, it's balanced by the game's responsive mechanics and rewarding progression. Overall, "Wonder Boy Returns Remix" on PC is a delightful trip down memory lane with enough new content to keep players entertained, making it a solid choice for platformer enthusiasts.
A hidden gem of a game and a great update to an old classic, still lots of fun and not as easy as it looks.
WARNING: This is NOT a bad game, just a glitched one, but you should be able to get over a good number of glitches. I found the solution for the majority of the issues, but that doesn't make things suddenly ok BEFORE playing you must do two things otherwise the bugs and problems I describe below will occur 1. Set your monitor Refresh Rate to 60Hz 2. Ensure the game's resolution matches your monitor's. Then when the game starts, alt tab out of it and then alt tab back into it because by default it runs on a higher refresh rate, this, in most cases causes it to run at the same Refresh Rate (in this case 60Hz) as your monitor. If this doesn't work, just set it to Windowed mode, then back to fullscreen while maintaining the same resolution as your monitor. After that, Wonder Boy Returns Remix will work as intended and you won't have disappearing platforms and other issues, at least I didn't see any up to World 4 anymore. HOWEVER if you don't change your monitor to 60Hz, the following happens: 1. Platforms will Spawn in unreachable areas or spawn in the wrong position altogether making it impossible to jump on 2. if the player stands on them during the split second they disappear into a poof of dust/cloud, there's a chance the player character will disappear, softlocking the game. BUT you shouldn't even be seeing the platforms disappearing like that to begin with as it turns out once I changed my monitor to 60Hz Before changing the Monitor to 60Hz, I thought it is not difficulty that plagues this game, it's actually a very easy, smooth experience, but one that feels like it was put together by 10 year olds rather than people who understand game design....well on PC with the refresh rate issues...turns out those 10 year olds balanced for Refresh Rate locking out anyone who doesn't have their monitor set to a mere 60Hz. It's a huge downgrade compared to the original wonder boy games and while eventually the visuals CAN grow on you, the game can be too broken to allow for relaxation to just set in and be enjoyed for what it is, because if you miss the refresh rate fix, as soon as you get comfortable, a game/level breaking glitch is just around the corner. A simple, linear pick up and play experience is always welcome, but that experience has to actually be functional and in this case, it's functional only if you troubleshoot. Once you get the game up and running as intended, it's very enjoyable and the music is actually great. Visuals are a mixed bag, it looks like a flashgame, there were so many other ways to draw this, just look at the Dragon's Trap remake, but we got what we got it doesn't look awful. Still my Not Recommended score stands until the developers make the game always revert to 60Hz on its own when launched because that definitely is NOT what is happening with mine. Buy the console version instead of the PC one
I really enjoyed what this game is trying to do. It’s a unique platformer with its own rules. It doesn’t really feel like a typical platformer due to the high tempo that is required from you. You can move wherever you like but you have a health gauge that depletes with time. You have to eat food to stay alive. You’re encouraged to keep running through 8 worlds. Each world has 4 stages. A lot of them look similar or are practically the same, but new elements keep getting added. Think of new enemies placed in awkward positions, an egg containing dangerous content instead of good, a stone that forces you to move differently etc. This keeps you on your toes, it plays with your expectations and it shines on the highest difficulty mode. There you only get 10 lives to finish the game. The game is very fun and different. The controls need some getting used to but I felt like a pro after a while. The cartoony graphics are cute, especially the playable characters and enemies. I love that the 3 difficulty modes are separate and can be accessed at any time. This helps with practicing certain levels on normal in order to get better with One Coin mode (the hardest difficulty). The achievements are fair and enjoyable. It felt very satisfying to complete One Coin mode after playing for over 19 hours. Actual length of the entire game might be less than an hour if you complete one mode without making mistakes. The game doesn’t have resolutions higher than 1080p. I had black borders with a 1440p monitor. Even though One Coin mode is fun, you have to complete it in one session. You can’t quit and continue later. Although I understand the developers are trying to replicate that arcade feel, I would have still preferred to continue later with the 10 lives you’re given. Also, it would have been really nice if you get rewarded with a new life after reaching a certain score (like every 100k or 200k). It kind of made the high scores pointless if you don’t care about that. It would have been helpful with One Coin mode too. Wonder Boy and Monster Boy games seem related as a franchise but this game is nothing like the other Wonder/Monster Boy games I played. It might as well be a different franchise. It’s a good game regardless of that. I got it for €1,80 on sale and it’s 100% worth it. Get it if you’re looking for a challenging platformer. It can be enjoyed on normal but this game is the best for the ones who love remembering patterns and want to practice to complete the highest difficulty mode. I’m not particularly looking for difficult games but I felt rewarded whilst trying to get all the achievements. It’s not impossible, it might even feel easy with a certain mindset. It’s one of those challenging games that I feel is done right. It motivates you to get better because you know you can do it.
