Maybe it's because the game is still in Early Access. Here's my review. I reached level 17 and just started the third island, Eastell. I dislike that ESC does not pause the game, even though it says it does. I dislike that my Pokemon can't hit ♥♥♥♥. I dislike instantdeath: I got my broom and started flying around to see what treasure I could find on the smaller islands and rock formations away from the main island. I managed to reach one with my broom that I clearly wasn't supposed to access. It was tiny, and I assume it was empty. The moment my feet touched the ground... instant death. And now I can't recover my items because my tombstone is stranded on that death island. I dislike fake choice: Why should I spend my first point in Mining just to unlock the ability to craft a pickaxe when one can already be found in the world (if you're lucky)? Why even give me a choice in the skill tree if some points are mandatory for progression, e.g. ritual candles? On the other hand, I have plenty of skill points.

So far honestly the game is lacking direction and I have a few issues with it. For a co-op game, the fact that loot is not shared between members is really frustrating, only 1 person gets to loot and it takes out the incentive of working together. I love that you can go around and do whatever you want, but a bit more direction would be nice. It is also frustrating to join a friends world, you have to shift+tab and go thru steam to invite someone and it could be smoother and in one place instead of going thru a third party. Also, having your character destroy entire forests for wood and kill all the creatures to maybe get a chance one stays for you to keep is pretty cruel and I don't think it matches the cozy witch vibes. I can see the potential though and will stick around to see what this company has to offer. Love the concept, not loving the current edition but hopeful for the future.
This game has it's moments and can be enjoyable, but too many times there is no obvious direction on how to proceed at any given point in the game. VERY CONFUSING and FRUSTRATING !!! Seems like this game needs more fine tuning to make it more playable and less frustrating!
Unclear directions where to go next. I've spent most of my playtime trying to figure out where to go. Quests are really bad. Repetitive gameplay, complete island 1, go to island 2, do everything again but enemies have bigger numbers. Crafting benches require pokemon that are extremely rare with no in-game way to find them, which makes me want to open a wiki instead of exploring. No sort/quick stack for inventory organization. No way to favorite/lock items in your inventory, so "store all" is annoying. Several ways to increase your HP, but 0 ways to increase your MP (that I've seen). Some puzzles require wands of different elements, so you HAVE TO walk around with 5+ wands on your inventory even if you don't ever use them. Clear extremely annoying bugs: - keybindings got reset - menus intermittently close automatically when I'm using/scrolling
If you like games like Valheim, Enshrouded or Palworld but wish they were a bit more magical and cozy, Witchspire is absolutely worth a look. I’ve been really enjoying it. The world is gorgeous and has that cozy fantasy feel, but there’s enough mystery and darker stuff going on that it still feels like an adventure rather than just a cozy building game. The familiars are probably my favourite part. Finding new ones, seeing their abilities and taking them out exploring makes them feel like an actual part of your character rather than just collectibles. Building is also really fun, and I love that the game cuts out a lot of the survival-game busywork like hunger, thirst and durability. It’s obviously still Early Access and there are things I’d like to see expanded, but there’s already a really strong game here. I’ve had that dangerous “I’ll just do one more thing before I stop playing” feeling quite a few times. Really excited to see where they take it. Definitely recommend giving it a go!!
Good premise, good aesthetics. Unbelievably poor execution. I hope to God this thing gets better with updates. Would not recommend it until a year from now at minimum. Too much needs fixing or is currently missing. Building: arguably the worst part of the game. Incredibly finicky, and when you deconstruct something you get zero materials back, which in this era is unforgivable. I often gravitate toward games specifically for the house-building aspect, but it's a frustrating chore here. The UI is particularly embarrassing. So many other games already existed when this was released that do it way better; there's just no excuse for how bad it is. Familiars: awful pathfinding and negligible aid in battle. When they are present they simply don't affect an enemy's health bar in a meaningful way (frankly you don't, either), and that's IF they're there—and you'll often find they aren't because they got hung up on some minor piece of terrain. One pet has a power that spawns a little turret overhead and fires at enemies, and it simply cannot hit anything. Combat: consists of holding down the mouse button and waiting for it to be over. Nothing more to say about it. As if all this weren't enough, there are just blatant EA-related issues, like how there are attributes in your character screen that have no tooltip so you just don't get to know what they do or what impact they have. When interacting with your inventory and chests there is no hotkey I have found to move a whole stack; you must click and place each manually or else hit "store all" which also stores your entire hotbar including all your tools. Character selection makes vague reference to differences between the "classes" that don't appear to exist in the game yet and, like attributes, are not explained at all. I gave this one two tries, the second having more milage simply because I loaded it up with QoL mods. But anyone reading this should give it a hard pass.
Game runs extremely poorly. It makes my PC want to lift off.
HONESTLY, THIS IS WHAT I WANTED HOGWARTS LEGACY TO BE LIKE. DONT HATE ME
Einfach nur schlecht. Zusammengeklaute Spielideen ohne eigene Innovation lieblos zusammen geklebt. Am meisten Geld wurde wohl in die Review Käufe gesteckt.
