Feels like generic MMO slop, the ship combat *looks* like black flag but plays nothing like it, it's stiff and dissatisfying and feels like a waste of time. All of these points can be put on every aspect of the game. You spend most of the early game running back to your body because you die to lvl 1-2 creatures forbid there be more than one at a time or even a lvl 3 creature, and after 3 1/2 hours you might be able to get to level 2. Stamina drains faster than you get it, and every action takes 25% of your stamina including attacking or dodging and you cant block to regain you have to run/waddle away. You can't run or swing when out of stamina for a good 2 seconds and some attacks take 2-3 seconds before you can block or move or do anything again, while the enemies can attack through your attacks and do 25% damage per hit. Plus everything has that MMO feeling to it, sped up goofy animations that feel out of place and what-not. Not worth 30$, maybe 10$ if that, however the building aspect is nice if you're into that sort of thing.
I set sail to become the Pirate King. Somehow, I became the Lumberjack King.
As it stands right now, I highly recommend staying away from Windrose, especially if you're just looking to kick back and play co-op with friends. The level design is just awful. The game locks the vast majority of your XP behind clearing map question marks. On top of that, falling behind in level severely slashes your damage, which basically forces you to grind those icons just to make any progress in the main story. Multiplayer is an absolute nightmare. Enemy damage spikes out of nowhere, and you're almost always getting ganged up on by three or more mobs at once, with each regular enemy having Soulslike stats. But the real issue isn't even the difficulty—it's the terrible payoff. You can fight tooth and nail, only to be rewarded with absolute garbage. Wanna actually enjoy the thrill of combat and get some satisfying loot with your friends? Don't even dream about it. Of course, this review only reflects the game's current state. I believe the developers will continue to optimize it and bring more content by the full release.
One of the only times I have ever had to go out of my way to write a review on a game like this. So to start out, my friend and I spent a decent amount of hours in the game. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be designed this way or what but early game combat flat out sucks, you get killed over and over again with the inconvenience of having to go all the way back for your stuff just to die again faster than the speed of light. It is extremely hard to learn the combat when two mistakes (not an exaggeration btw) means you gotta start back at your tent and hope you don't die again on the way back to whatever kind of hell killed you the first time. The limited blocks instead of a meter is really messing up the flow of combat too, I barely even blocked at all during my gameplay because it just felt unfair and discouraging to even try doing that in a fight. Baseline is early game content is just too hard, you can barely walk a few steps without dying and it is infuriating. I did however really like the naval combat, clearly inspired by AC Black Flag and Skull and Bones while still feeling relatively original. I spend a lot of time plundering ships and that was the highlight of my time playing this game. Later in my gameplay I discovered how XP worked and I just gotta be brutally honest here- it wasn't good. Killing enemies early game is difficult enough but knowing that disposing of monsters doesn't grant you any form of XP makes it feel almost worthless and tedious. Sure you get cool loot at the start but after you get a base going a little bit it all just becomes junk. And if combat is that difficult this early in the game then the player needs stats, waiting to complete each story or side mission alone isn't enough XP to keep the player alive. All this being said- the game has MASSIVE potential and I fully support the developers in shaping the game in whatever direction they wish to take it in. While the direction they're currently choosing is extremely unclear in my opinion, I can say with confidence that with more work and improvements that this game could rival other well known pirate games. I can't say I had more fun playing this game than I did frustration but with time I'm sure that it'll be a blast. Definitely purchase on the full release but I cannot recommend it before then.
Sail the open seas in this pirate game, where you'll engage in very little actual piracy. ✔️ A very good survival game , but somehow a kind of bad pirate game?! ✔️ Beautiful graphics. ✔️ Simple enough to pick up. ✔️ Audio and music are good. ❓ Difficulty is very hard in multiplayer; heard single-player is easier . Some people like hard games, so I'll leave this here. ❓ If you love pirates, you might find something here, but it got old really fast for us. ❓ We basically finished the first zone, so maybe it improves after zone 1. But we were pretty done with it. ❌ For a game built around pirates , you don't really ever get to be a pirate... You're given a huge ship after about 2 hours; you have no control or connection with the crew, and no attachment is built towards owning the ship. ❌ Sailing the seas is totally pointless ; you can fast travel everywhere , and your ship allows you to teleport to any fast travel point. At no point was I " sailing back with the loot." I would just fill the ship up, teleport home, then teleport back on my ship. ❌ The actual sailing combat is really weak ; ship battles are incredibly stale . You cannot even board the enemy ship and kill the crew until the ship is at 10% HP , and even then, what's the point? ❌ Incredibly arcadey gameplay : fall off the ship? Teleport back onto the deck with " E. " Need to get somewhere? Teleport straight there . Died to a boss? Nevermind, place a spawn 2 feet away, teleport home afterward .
Game for "no life" waste of time, you farm hours for nothing, everything takes many resources.

Gameplay:
80hours of play for nothing. Bugs and terrible controls. Disastrous resource management. Base-building that serves no purpose. The enemies' combat level is awful. This game is very impressive at first, but you quickly realize it’s vastly overrated by players who haven’t played it enough to truly understand it. As updates roll out and time goes by, nothing gets fixed.
Lots of potential, but like most early-access games, it has no future.

If you like RPG games and Adventures Games, come and discover what's available on steam.
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45213988-SeniGaming-RPG-Aventures/
I was quite enjoying this game, building is fun and the bleed + long range build I was doing for my character made combat really satisfying. I was having a blast playing with friends and then I realized quite a few of the item icons are AI generated. I also saw a community post where one of the devs was vague about their AI usage on the songs and that made me even more suspicious. Leaving this here in case it's relevant to someone else before buying.
