The Willows siblings have learned that it’s best to keep their heads down and go with the flow of life. At least that’s how the “responsible” older sister, Maria, sees it, as she contends with a life of managing a run-down video store in a run-down city, in a run-down country.

Her little brother, Matthew, sometimes forgets the lessons life has taught; preoccupying himself with those annoying questions of “who are we” and “where do we come from”. Matthew, with his perpetual curiosity, just wants to get to the bottom of it all. But Maria, in all her wisdom and experience, knows that the only thing worth getting to the bottom of is a bottle of beer after a long day's work.

Matthew knows things, too. Matthew sees things. He sees the Shadows.
