Werewolves 3: Evolution's End

This gave me exactly what I wanted more of from this series: Sex, intrigue, violence, and mystery. The character arcs are solid and believable and the writing is great as always. Looking forward to book 4!

[b][h1]Werewolves 3: Evolution's End[/h1][/b] [b][h2]Overview:[/h2][/b] Werewolves 3 continues the high stakes of the previous games, while improving the exploration aspect. Although there are some frustrating bits, it’s by far worth the experience. [b][h2]Brief Summary: [/h2][/b] Upon seeing the release of Werewolves 3, I replayed the first two games in the series, Werewolves: Haven Rising and Werewolves 2: Pack Mentality, for the first time in years. Both games are very different from the werewolf games I’ve played and enjoyed recently. There’s something more science-fictiony and more grounded in reality about them that normally wouldn’t work for me, but does because of how the author executes the world-building and characters. With as few spoilers as possible, the Werewolves series takes the player character, a young werewolf on the cusp of adulthood, through the harrowing journey of revolution and freedom fighting. Your character deals with pack politics, the cost of freedom, and differing perspectives on how to get there. By book three, the pack has established characterizations and beliefs. You know who is going to have more anti-human sentiments, pro-violence sentiments, and for the first time you can see what characters imagine their post-revolution lives could look like. Werewolves inspires hope, despite its darker tone. Book 3 hits it stride when it’s inwardly focused. What does everyone want? How are we going to get it? Do we accept the costs for getting it? At the same time, we have the opportunity to return to place we’ve been before from a new perspective. Looking through the other side of the mirror is disconcerting and uncomfortable in the best way. Things that you thought you knew are turned around, and beliefs you had established are challenged. Book 3 also allows careful exploration and has the patience (and wordcount) to offer varying pathways of discovery. I definitely haven’t played every route of this game (so many branches) but I didn’t necessarily feel that it was needed to get the core experience. My PC was able to carve her own path, and that was more important than seeking out every hidden corner/crevice available. On the other hand, there were definitely elements of the gameplay that didn’t work for me. In Werewolves 2: Pack Mentality, I started to chafe against certain aspects of the story structure. There’s a certain powerlessness that gets enforced through two outside leader-type characters. Caught in the middle of their conflict, they order you to go here and there, do this and that, save the other leader character and betray them. While there are choices in how to do these things and how you feel about doing them, another example of how the game is well-crafted, this was definitely a low point in the series for me as I found both characters intolerable. Considering the ending of book 2, I had hoped I was finally free from these two characters and the chokehold narrative structuring they represented. Imagine my surprise to see the two, and the structuring, back in action in book 3. They are, by far, the most frustrating part of the book to me. Every time I’m forced to ‘see their side,’ or ‘side with one over the other’ AGAIN, I feel pushed into a corner. Despite what didn’t work for me, there’s far more to praise in the game than there is to critique. [h1] Werewolves 3: Evolution's End is an excellent entry into the series, with careful incorporation of choice and exploration. I've played through the entire current series of three novels twice, and am going to be experiencing it all again for a third time. The novels are absolutely immaculate, and as an enthusiast and fellow creator of extensive writings , I can suggest beyond reasonable doubt to anyone who enjoys the same will enjoy the Claw, Shadow, and Sage series immensely. There are plenty of options and paths to navigate along the way in each book, and decisions made in the first can even affect branches in the third. A very dynamic series that may very well leave you calling for more.

Played the three books in a row, and, OMG, I am sorry but I am so hyped! One of the best Choice of Games I have read so far. Very compelling plot, lore and characters. Villains were truly interesting. I do want to see the end, I can barely wait!!

An amazing third entry to an amazing series. They connected all the different story threads really well and they made the choices quite difficult in this one and i love it. The romance scenes are great as per usual and i loved the different endings. The characters are amazing as per usual. I give this another 10/10 and i would once again recommend this game and all the games in this series at any price.

The best of the 3. Really fell in love with the world and the characters. I also appreciated the extensive choices given. Also, the villains were impeccably written. 10 out of 10. Thoroughly enjoyed my experiencing finishing this series.

I can't get enough of these characters. Honestly inspired me to try and read more often.
