About
Wartorn is a single-player, squad-based, roguelite where players play as Yara and Elani, sisters who have been driven from their home and must traverse the wartorn Isles of Talaur to reach the safety of Beynun, their ancestral fortress. Harness the elements in fierce real-time battles while upgrading a crew of fantasy creatures as you search for your family.
Wartorn features a systemic, emergent gameplay system using the elements of fire, water, tar, plant, and lightning. Strategically choose your squads to master the elements and environment against hordes of enemies. Water extinguishes fire, tar amplifies fire, electricity crackles across the ranks in wet conditions, and water can heal plant-based units. And that’s just scratching the surface!

Build out your Caravan by recruiting squads of fantasy creatures including goblins, elves, demons, treefolk, (and more!) as you travel the world. Each squad adds new strategic options to your caravan through their different characteristics and unique abilities. Mix and match what squads you bring into battle to truly master a run. Battlefield positioning, squad combos, and skillful usage of abilities can win the day, but be careful, losses cost you morale, and if your caravan loses hope it’s game over.

The game’s blend of strategic and roguelite elements offer deep replayability, with each run feeling fresh thanks to emergent gameplay, dynamic squad management, and unpredictable narrative events that can save your struggling band or cost them their lives.

Search the Isles of Talaur to meet Yara and Elani’s family, who reveal pieces of the game’s story and grant the player heirlooms that bring with them new advantages and abilities for future runs.
Explore the Overworld Map, which shows off the massive scale of your journey. With branching paths and unexpected outcomes, every choice leads to new challenges. Be sure to monitor your hope, your food, and take care of your squads!

Deutsche Bewertung weiter unten. TL;DR: Der Echtzeitgefechtteil ist fummelig und frustrierend, die Weltkarte nutzlos und Metaprogession zäh und kaum merkbar TL;DR : RTS part is clunky and frustrating, walking on the worldmap is pointless and metaprogression is tough and barely noticeable The game is unbearable on so many levels. It has three main core areas. 1. The RTS (Real-Time Simulator) part, which deals with real-time combat. Here, unit control is incredibly sluggish and clunky. Melee fighters, and especially ranged fighters, don't obey commands, and pathfinding is terrible. Ranged fighters run into melee combat. You take a lot of unnecessary damage. This is awful because you don't heal after battles. This means that if you take damage in one fight, the next one (or all subsequent ones) becomes significantly harder. Sometimes, even in the first missions, you're outnumbered 1 to 3. This means that even if you try to strategize and flank enemies for extra damage, you'll be overwhelmed by sheer numbers. The combat lacks strategic depth and isn't fun. 2. Moving around the strategic map, where you always have a choice between two paths. The game has so many mechanics that make life difficult. You need food, gold, morale, and only have indirect and very limited access to heal your units. There are shortages everywhere, and it constantly feels like you're managing a crisis. Something is always missing. But here, too, there's no way to actively control the situation; you're just a victim, stumbling blindly across the map in the pure, desperate hope of finding something that will help you. (Not in a strategic/tactical way like in Slay the Spire, where you can consciously adapt your deck to your playstyle or the course of the game—here it's just about desperately trying to get resources to avoid a penalty—so there's no positive progress; you're just trying to prevent things from getting even worse.) 3. The meta-progression, which is what makes these kinds of games appealing in the first place, is so unnecessarily drawn out here that I didn't make any noticeable progress in the ten hours I played. The worst part is, I've already bought the inexpensive upgrades. That means it's only going to get more tedious now. It's a shame because the game has a lot of potential overall, but ultimately fails on three out of three levels, so it doesn't offer any real enjoyment in the short or long term. A pity, not recommended. Man nimmt ganz viel unnötigen Schaden.

I like battle mechanics and how rogue-like elements integrated into story

Love this game!
- had hard time figuring how to Journey just to realize it's the same button that reset - takes too long to complete the intro and vert linear gameplay - price in my currency is too high - zooming in and out too slow - Ability to load save game game plays much different and nicer now , feedback updated to recommend. But still pricy.
Fun game. Took me a little bit to get into it, but well worth the price at that point. I'm still learning new strategies and tricks 25 hours in.
