About
Wartorn is a single-player, squad-based, roguelite where players play as Yara and Elani, sisters who have been driven from their home and must traverse the wartorn Isles of Talaur to reach the safety of Beynun, their ancestral fortress. Harness the elements in fierce real-time battles while upgrading a crew of fantasy creatures as you search for your family.
Wartorn features a systemic, emergent gameplay system using the elements of fire, water, tar, plant, and lightning. Strategically choose your squads to master the elements and environment against hordes of enemies. Water extinguishes fire, tar amplifies fire, electricity crackles across the ranks in wet conditions, and water can heal plant-based units. And that’s just scratching the surface!

Build out your Caravan by recruiting squads of fantasy creatures including goblins, elves, demons, treefolk, (and more!) as you travel the world. Each squad adds new strategic options to your caravan through their different characteristics and unique abilities. Mix and match what squads you bring into battle to truly master a run. Battlefield positioning, squad combos, and skillful usage of abilities can win the day, but be careful, losses cost you morale, and if your caravan loses hope it’s game over.

The game’s blend of strategic and roguelite elements offer deep replayability, with each run feeling fresh thanks to emergent gameplay, dynamic squad management, and unpredictable narrative events that can save your struggling band or cost them their lives.

Search the Isles of Talaur to meet Yara and Elani’s family, who reveal pieces of the game’s story and grant the player heirlooms that bring with them new advantages and abilities for future runs.
Explore the Overworld Map, which shows off the massive scale of your journey. With branching paths and unexpected outcomes, every choice leads to new challenges. Be sure to monitor your hope, your food, and take care of your squads!
Pour ceux qui préfèrent une jolie vidéo plutôt qu'un long texte ennuyant j'ai pensé à vous !
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHeQ_FOwanE ⚔️ Critique Steam – Wartorn
✅ Conclusion Wartorn est une très belle surprise.

Played until the 2nd boss Torn the Two faced tree. I was really enjoying the game up to that point. For some reason the tree is unkillable. The health will drop and suddenly regenerate back to full. Even after defeating all the minions and the sprouts that the tree creates, for a few cycles, It will just keep healing back to full health. Not sure if this is a bug or the end of the early access? The game is otherwise really enjoyable. Minor issues like unit pathing and some events being skipped for unknown reasons, but its good enough that I couldn't stop playing, which means it has the potential to be a really good game. Devs please advise on what is up with the unkillable Two faced tree though! Kills the fun when there is no advice on how to defeat it even when I have 5 tier II and III units all attacking it at the same time.
Remind me of Myth II's gameplay but with roguelike twist. You always start with random units and you better hold them dearly and train them well... once they gone, they are gone until your next run. The story is good at least for me. The control are easy to learn and hard to master. Will update as I play!
Fun.
The game is very pretty and unique. And had the post launch care been better I would wholeheartedly endorse the game. However, they never fixed some extremely annoying bugs and in its current state I can not recommend it. The fire is still invisible and the game randomly slows to a crawl when opening the caravan interface that only a restart can fix. And in a game where fire is prevalent and extremely punishing that is just not acceptable.
I have played 5 hours and completed 3 runs. I've defeated the first boss, and while the game has some issues, it's still largely enjoyable. Pros: - The art style is great now that they've added and option to turn off the painterly effect. - The story is compelling. - The voice acting is satisfying. - The random events feel unique and can be interacted with in unique ways as you progress. - The core gameplay loop is fun; RTS action with permanent health damage really makes it so your actions and skill impact future choices. - Unit upgrades feel diverse. Turn your lightning mages into dodge tanks with a blink ability. Cons: - The random events feel quite polar, the RNG can brick your run at any point. - The unit AI is poor. The parking in an RTS game is very important and it can make combat sluggish. - The lack of tooltips; please give me more information like the DPS of a summon, how much water slows movement by, and numbers on ability cooldowns. - The lack of a minimap makes tracking units difficult, but it forces you to look around and that's not a bad thing, except you cannot rotate the camera. - There is no demarcation for areas you cannot traverse but enemy units can travel there. I consider this a bug and should be attended immediately. - The meta progression feels slow and uninspired. Grind 'strands' to give your units one of several stat boosts. Overall, the game is fun and has great potential. If you are a fan of RTS, roguelike, and enjoy a compelling story, this is worth your time. Until updates have been implemented, try to get it on sale (~40% off).
the dificulty of this game is ridicilous. i recomend manual diff. since dynamic will give you 13 ents vs your 5. Heroes are useles any unit kills them. The rogue like elements are there but the map is just too long. The combat is fun until game doesnt spawn constantly enemies that you cant avoid even when your goal is escape. Leveling outside is fine for your top units but since you always get better level mercs when you finish bossfight its pointless. there are artilery units that shoots you through 2 screens away so you need to micro constantly. then there is a bomber that wipes your squad because you havent dodged one projectile. very bad balance when they throw at you constant waves of enemyes. every battle you have active dmg that you can heal but it goes so fast that you will just skip healers and then it persists until you heal them, during overworld, but that healing is so slow... There is some tactical aspect but the maps are just too small and with poping eneies on your flanks just ruins it, you can flank them but pc spwans 2 units behind you. terrible design. Like run to the exit well you cant since pc spawned 4 units on your path. You kill them there is another 5 poppping out of every corner. on surface looks and plays like a decent game but longer you play it the worse it gets. buy on sale. also the final boss battle is so unbalanced it hurts. and my playthrough just got hardstuck since when you die the avatar of time should return you back and mine is just hardstuck on screen so gg. great
