About

Warlord: Awaji is the second entry in a series of immersive strategy games created by Darkmatter Games. Step into the shoes of a legendary samurai warlord, given special command and orders from the Emperor to conquer an entire island and save a regime teetering on the edge of collapse.
A unique combination of first-person strategy elements places Warlord: Awaji in a genre of its own. Immersive strategy, pioneered by Darkmatter Games, fixes the player in the shoes of their character, while presenting them with complex strategic gameplay. Lead an army, construct your camp, conquer villages and forts, and disrupt dynamic enemy forces in a sprawling open world–entirely from this immersive strategy perspective. Turn the tide of battle by engaging directly in the action yourself, fighting alongside your own hand picked warriors fully in real time.
The world of Warlord: Awaji is a sprawling island created using real heightmap data of its eponymous location, replete with dozens of temples and shrines from real life. Travel the roads cautiously and keep your eyes on the treelines, as civilian convoys and roaming warrior bands criss-cross the open world in real time. The local clans will react aggressively to your exploits, so choose your actions carefully. Strategically target strongpoints to weaken enemy quick-reaction forces. Capture rival clans' shrines to boost your spiritual aura and harm theirs. Work with esoteric warrior monks to curse your enemies and coordinate powerful coalition attacks.
Your warriors are your most important weapon. Recruit and maintain a powerful retinue of samurai. Use conquered land to promote leaders and expand your army's capacity while organizing its battle formation in any way you like using an intuitive drag-and-drop menu. Each individual has a unique name and gains experience over time through heroic action. Give your best warriors advanced weapons and armor to boost their lethality in combat. Form diverse groups of melee, ranged, and cavalry troops. Mix and match to find the best army composition and crush the opposition.
Construct a samurai war camp anywhere in the open world. Pitch tents and provide your troops with a variety of needs, including sleep, rest, and sustenance. Put up screens and fences to establish a perimeter. Set guards to keep watch in the dark hours of the night. At any time, you may pack up and relocate your camp, allowing for complex strategic maneuvers. Decide where and when to set up your base, and which direction to move in as you explore the vast open world.
All of the weapons, armor, structures, names, and gameplay elements are inspired directly from extant literary, iconographic, and archeological sources. Darkmatter Games, with the help of world leading experts on samurai warfare, has painstakingly recreated the 14th century world of medieval Japan in unrivaled detail. Historical authenticity is the core element of the Warlord franchise. Prepare to experience the visceral world of the samurai like never before seen.

a little buggy but a lot of fun
The gameplay loop is addictive, lots of fun to be had and I haven't even unlocked a fraction of the items
Definitely has a good base. Trade and diplomacy are one big things Warlord: Britannia was missing, so it's good to see them here. The formation manager is one of the coolest things I've seen in a game like this. You can place your "units" on a grid, and they'll form into that when you go into battle. The performance is okay, but it gets a little slow in battles with 40-ish guys. If you liked the first game you will like this.

Its almost a complete improvement over the previous game, save for some concessions for accuracy to the time period. Personally, the improved combat and strategic gameplay are very much worth it even for the formations and battles boiling down to mass melees.
Massive improvement overall with the army management system. Great 2nd installation for the WARLORDS series <3
Absolutely incredible, and well worth the wait. Of course it has some minor bugs that could be fixed, but for coming out just today it plays extremely well, it's funnily immersive, and you could absolutely get lost in the world for hours! The mechanics are great, I think it's fun that you can make local alliances and combine yourself with another army to defeat a superior foe. However one small complaint I have is that there isn't a lot of equipment that you can get early game thus far, it's probably a little better late game, but I have yet to experience it. Overall a 9/10 game, It's worth both the price and the waiting.
Its got a whole lot of potential. I found some areas lacking but other, particularly the depth in the systems, such as building and managing your troops. other than that its has a solid foundation to build off of.

My lord, a GLORIOUS victory will. soon. be. YOURS. I'm having a LOT of fun, I hope they expand more on it though, the framework that worked for Britannia can be expanded alot, like adding customisation for your lord/character, adding a permanent castle/fortress that you can get when you're like half way through the island, things like that which add to the atmosphere instead of just new lands to repeat the same thing you just did somewhere else. Loving the game alot though so far, some people have said they've ran into major bugs or ran out of resources so they can't complete the tutorial, all I can say about that is I haven't ran into a single issue or bug so far, the only thing I had a struggle with was the AI sent a 20something stack of samurai-samurai (all lightly armoured up) to chase me down and attack me and I had to cheese a little by going to some monks I allied up, inside their temple grounds, then calling on their special ability to give me like 6 or so monk warriors (temporary troops) and all 3 forces combined was able to defend against them. Those guys chased me for ages lol.
Fun game. Feels like a more polished version of his previous game.
