About

Warlord: Awaji is the second entry in a series of immersive strategy games created by Darkmatter Games. Step into the shoes of a legendary samurai warlord, given special command and orders from the Emperor to conquer an entire island and save a regime teetering on the edge of collapse.
A unique combination of first-person strategy elements places Warlord: Awaji in a genre of its own. Immersive strategy, pioneered by Darkmatter Games, fixes the player in the shoes of their character, while presenting them with complex strategic gameplay. Lead an army, construct your camp, conquer villages and forts, and disrupt dynamic enemy forces in a sprawling open world–entirely from this immersive strategy perspective. Turn the tide of battle by engaging directly in the action yourself, fighting alongside your own hand picked warriors fully in real time.
The world of Warlord: Awaji is a sprawling island created using real heightmap data of its eponymous location, replete with dozens of temples and shrines from real life. Travel the roads cautiously and keep your eyes on the treelines, as civilian convoys and roaming warrior bands criss-cross the open world in real time. The local clans will react aggressively to your exploits, so choose your actions carefully. Strategically target strongpoints to weaken enemy quick-reaction forces. Capture rival clans' shrines to boost your spiritual aura and harm theirs. Work with esoteric warrior monks to curse your enemies and coordinate powerful coalition attacks.
Your warriors are your most important weapon. Recruit and maintain a powerful retinue of samurai. Use conquered land to promote leaders and expand your army's capacity while organizing its battle formation in any way you like using an intuitive drag-and-drop menu. Each individual has a unique name and gains experience over time through heroic action. Give your best warriors advanced weapons and armor to boost their lethality in combat. Form diverse groups of melee, ranged, and cavalry troops. Mix and match to find the best army composition and crush the opposition.
Construct a samurai war camp anywhere in the open world. Pitch tents and provide your troops with a variety of needs, including sleep, rest, and sustenance. Put up screens and fences to establish a perimeter. Set guards to keep watch in the dark hours of the night. At any time, you may pack up and relocate your camp, allowing for complex strategic maneuvers. Decide where and when to set up your base, and which direction to move in as you explore the vast open world.
All of the weapons, armor, structures, names, and gameplay elements are inspired directly from extant literary, iconographic, and archeological sources. Darkmatter Games, with the help of world leading experts on samurai warfare, has painstakingly recreated the 14th century world of medieval Japan in unrivaled detail. Historical authenticity is the core element of the Warlord franchise. Prepare to experience the visceral world of the samurai like never before seen.

Great game!!! I've been waiting for this for a long time and it didn't let me down However the optimization is pretty poor my PC is just average but this game really shouldn't be running at only 51 FPS on medium settings with sudden stutters Everything else is great but there aren't enough little details in the game I can t even sit down to rest in my own manor and it really needs more realism Excited to see future updates!
Money well spent! This is a niche genre of game, but someone has to boldly go there! Game is addictive!

Its got a whole lot of potential. I found some areas lacking but other, particularly the depth in the systems, such as building and managing your troops. other than that its has a solid foundation to build off of.
The concept is interesting so I tried it. But after a while I can't stand with the messy graphic so I just refunded..
Great game on arrival. Lots to do, pretty well polished. Excited to see what the dev adds. I think adding more command options for different units to give more complexity to battles and adding a large battlefield like game mode would be a good place to start.
My lord, a GLORIOUS victory will. soon. be. YOURS. I'm having a LOT of fun, I hope they expand more on it though, the framework that worked for Britannia can be expanded alot, like adding customisation for your lord/character, adding a permanent castle/fortress that you can get when you're like half way through the island, things like that which add to the atmosphere instead of just new lands to repeat the same thing you just did somewhere else. Loving the game alot though so far, some people have said they've ran into major bugs or ran out of resources so they can't complete the tutorial, all I can say about that is I haven't ran into a single issue or bug so far, the only thing I had a struggle with was the AI sent a 20something stack of samurai-samurai (all lightly armoured up) to chase me down and attack me and I had to cheese a little by going to some monks I allied up, inside their temple grounds, then calling on their special ability to give me like 6 or so monk warriors (temporary troops) and all 3 forces combined was able to defend against them. Those guys chased me for ages lol.
Fun and good looking game with strong foundations however, lacks depth and variety of gameplay loop. Very fun for first couple hours until you realize the whole loop is just running from your camp to the next enemy hold over and over and over. Sprinting to the next one just to tick it off your map gets tiring fast. Combat is fun and rewarding but it doesn't have any tactical formations or strategy and every battle ends up being the same. Camp building is satisfying but very simple. I would love more complex building requirements, more in depth army mechanics, and more variety with enemy fights and their strongholds. Feels like the map should be smaller and have less filler towns. Also as others have said small loading issues and lag spikes. Maybe I will come back with more positives farther along once I unlock horses.. Overall great game idea with good fun gameplay made but, overall gets tiring.
Fun game
There’s a lot of potential and I see what this 1 man crew is whipping up, but there’s a big downside to it. The good so far: It’s very fun and has a simplistic gameplay style to it to where you can easily catch on to what you need to do, the map is massive, Raiding villages is awesome, the atmosphere most definitely makes you feel like you are in the Japan’s feudal era, You can promote your troops and rename them at a certain point, build your camp from the ground up, and find unique gear by traveling/exploring! The bad so far: I mean, I hate to be that one guy but I have a beast of a PC xD. This game should be running in the high hundreds for me and realistically it should be performing well with PCs with lower tier components too (I tried to say it as nice as I can without sounding like some snob lmao). To start up the campaign... that takes at least 2-4 minutes which is insanely long - especially with it happening every time you go to your save. Also, I must've missed it but I didn't see an option for autosave. When you die you will have to restart wherever you had last saved, so make sure you save regularly. The ceiling is high for this developer and I look forward to seeing this game improve!
