About

Join Ringo, a young martial artist looking for her brother, and Wolfe, a mysterious scoundrel running from his past, as they join forces in an unlikely partnership to collect the pieces of the fabled Wanderstar Map. Across 10 “episodes” of anime-inspired adventure, Ringo and Wolfe will have to work together to find answers, make up for past mistakes, and travel across the universe in search of their goal. And who knows, maybe they’ll learn how to get along at some point!
Trained in the ways of Kiai, a magical form of martial art and also the universe’s most exciting form of televised entertainment, Ringo can combine words to create customized attacks in intense turn-based battles. During her race across the universe you’ll expand Ringo’s vocabulary, equip Pep Up bonuses earned through honorable victories and level up her spirit power. Defeat or befriend a cast of fearsome space pirates, mysterious scoundrels, cute witches, high school delinquents, talking crows, and skilled martial artists on your way to becoming a Kiai master.

SUPER SPECIAL FIRE KICK! Battles in Wander Stars are settled through a unique combat system that combines the structure of turn-based JRPGs, the strategic layer of deckbuilders and the spectacle of animes like Dragon Ball Z.
Create custom attacks by combining words up to the limit of your spirit level. The more spirit you have, the more slots you have to place words into and the more powerful and complex actions you can take.
ACTION WORDS do something e.g. KICK, BLOCK or ITEM.
MODIFIER WORDS modify actions e.g. SUPER (+1 damage), FAST (reduces cooldown) or HUGE (attacks all opponents).
ELEMENTAL WORDS add an elemental impact and status effects e.g. FIRE (burn) or WATER (wet).
All words have cool downs and opponents might be weak or strong against specific attacks or specific elements. You won’t know which until you engage them in battle so you need to be prepared to improvise.

With over 200 words to collect across the game there is a near infinite number of possible unique attacks to make. Things start off easy but as you expand Ringo’s vocabulary you’ll need to carefully select which words you take into battle, building strategies around your mix of categories, blend of offensive and defensive words, giving yourself options to manage your opponents weaknesses and strengths, consider optimizing the juggling of cool downs and, of course, which attacks sound the coolest.
The result is an accessible, immediately fun but deep combat system.
The core ethos of the Kiai martial art is to fight with honor. Defeating an opponent with honor can turn the most heated of rivals into the fastest of friends! Befriend your rivals to earn their words of encouragement in the form of useful Pep Ups which can be equipped to give you special bonuses in combat.
Travel the universe on a rollercoaster adventure as you seek the pieces of the Wanderstar map, Ringo’s lost brother and the answers to Wolfe’s mysterious past.
This is a tale of mystery, adventure, betrayal, redemption, unlikely allies, twists, turns, surfing capybaras, health-restoring empanadas, forgotten shopping lists, rifts in space AND rifts between lovers.

Along the way you’ll build a found family of colorful characters, each with their own thing going on. They might not all get along at first, but that’s nothing a thrilling space adventure can’t fix! And even with the trail gone cold, take heart, for these wandering stars are bound to find each other…

Wander Stars is inspired by the anime the developers grew up watching in 1990’s Venezuela and shows like Dragon Ball Z, Cowboy Bebop, Sailor Moon, One Piece and more.
It plays out across 10 “episodes”, each of which takes between 60-90 minutes to complete. Each episode features a map to explore with procedurally generated battles, special events and other secrets to find along with the main story events.
Tackle your playthrough an episode at a time or binge the whole thing in one go - the choice is yours.
You can even replay episodes to find all the side adventures, NPCs, and party member banter you might have missed! Try new paths as you explore ever-changing maps with randomized special events, lurking rivals, and tantalizing treasures. The experience is never quite the same!
It was a positive experience (dare I say great) all the way until you get to the last boss fight. Good job devs; you ruined your game with that fight. The boss has an extremely annoying mechanic where he reverts all damage taken and he has 1k hp. The boss feels bugged, on rewinds I keep losing words and random words from my inventory get added, also they only show three ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thresholds for his hp bar that stop at 800ish hp. He attacks at full hp or the first threshold of 900-920, anything below 900 triggers the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rewind. They made ONE word (spirit) be his weakness but then my CD refreshing words are all bugged and do nothing (this was happening throughout the level btw, randomly) the other word that Nashi gave me did not appear in my inventory so I don't even know what it is. I do not see a way to do this unless you one shot him and unless that other word your buggy ass game failed to gave me is like a X7-x10 short-medium word where my 100+ dmg attack can one shot him by being multiplied, that's a wrap. You cannot have such a frustrating, looping mechanic in a game that has you redo entire sections when you reload and has bugs constantly towards the end where words do nothing or disappear. I'm sure I could reload until i get BOTH of Nashi's words since I'm sure they are cruicial, but nah--it has been enough. Eat this negative review.... 0/10
This game is definitely a hidden gem and one of my favorite games from 2025. I love the style of the game, with it bringing me back to older shonen manga I used to read growing up. The ensemble cast were all great, melding well together. The story was also fun to play through and I enjoyed watching everyone grow into themselves. The gameplay was also fun and I really liked stringing together crazy attack names. It feels fairly unique compared to other RPGs out there and definitely left an impression on me.
The incredible concept and unique combat mechanics drew me in, and it made me cry as my reward for playing through all the way. This game is worth every penny.
Wander Stars is a vibrant turn-based RPG developed by Paper Castle Games and published by Fellow Traveller and Beep Japan Inc. From the moment it begins, the game makes its inspirations clear, embracing the spirit of classic adventure anime while carving out an identity of its own. Rather than presenting a grim or overly serious science-fiction universe, it opts for a colorful galaxy populated by eccentric characters, bizarre creatures, and larger-than-life martial artists. The result is a game that feels like stepping into a long-lost animated series, complete with episodic storytelling and a constant sense of discovery. The adventure follows Ringo, an optimistic martial artist determined to locate her missing brother, and Wolfe, a mysterious traveler whose troubled history slowly unfolds over the course of their journey. Their search for the legendary Wanderstar Map serves as the backbone of the narrative, but the game's real strength lies in its character interactions. Wander Stars consistently balances comedy and heartfelt moments, introducing everything from unusual alien civilizations to strange wildlife and memorable allies. The writing succeeds because it never loses sight of its central themes of friendship, perseverance, and self-discovery, making the cast feel endearing rather than simply eccentric. Combat is where Wander Stars distinguishes itself from many other indie RPGs. Instead of relying on conventional skills and magic menus, players build attacks by combining words gathered throughout the campaign. More than 200 words can be collected and arranged to create increasingly elaborate techniques, encouraging experimentation in every encounter. Players can mix modifiers, elements, and action terms to discover attacks that suit their preferred playstyle. This mechanic gives battles a unique sense of creativity, transforming what could have been a standard turn-based system into something far more engaging. There is genuine satisfaction in assembling a powerful technique and watching it unfold with dramatic anime-inspired flair. Progression extends beyond simply becoming stronger. The game places considerable emphasis on honorable combat through its Kiai martial arts philosophy, rewarding players for how they approach encounters. Rivals can become companions, and victories often feel like meaningful story moments rather than routine battles. This approach reinforces the game's optimistic tone while providing tangible gameplay benefits through special enhancements and bonuses. Combined with procedurally generated encounters and hidden events, the adventure remains fresh across its ten episodic chapters, each designed to be completed in manageable sessions without sacrificing narrative momentum. Visually, Wander Stars is bursting with personality. Its hand-drawn art style captures the energy of classic animated adventures, while expressive character portraits and lively battle effects help sell the game's exuberant atmosphere. Every location feels distinct, from alien landscapes to bustling settlements, and the soundtrack complements the presentation with an appropriately adventurous tone. The episodic structure also works in the game's favor, making each chapter feel like a new installment of a beloved animated series rather than another segment of a lengthy RPG campaign. Although its procedural elements occasionally introduce some repetition and not every player will embrace the game's relentlessly cheerful personality, these shortcomings are relatively minor when viewed alongside its many accomplishments. Wander Stars succeeds because it commits fully to its vision, combining inventive mechanics with memorable storytelling and a distinctive artistic identity. It is an easy recommendation for players who enjoy turn-based RPGs, anime-inspired adventures, and games willing to experiment with familiar genres. By turning language itself into a weapon and wrapping it in a heartfelt interstellar journey, Wander Stars delivers an experience that is as charming as it is original. Rating: 8/10
Love the art style and so far love the gameplay, so interesting to find the weaknesses and figure out word combos that are effective to my foes. Also so far love the story excited to see the rest!
Fantastic game with some rough edges. The story is fun and I was soy pointing to every 90s anime reference, the characters and interactions are dynamic and when the game was over, I couldn't help myself but want more. The ending was a bit disappointing because it doesn't feel like an ending at all, but a season finale, very anime of them, but still wanting to continue the adventure with these endearing characters, I am really hoping for a continuation or even an anime or comic. The combat is really good, having to combine words to exploit enemy weaknesses and do mental maths to try and mercy them instead of defeating everyone was a very fun challenge, I just wish the order of the words mattered for a bit more complexity. The only bad thing I have towards this game is the UI/UX, the interface can be infuriating at times, words get jumbled up, scrolling through menus is unresponsive, having to select each word before a mission, navigating through 3 different menus, each one with a broken scrolling system is infuriating. Plus there are some bugs that were quite distracting, to items that you bought not showing up, to straight up soft locks that made me restart the chapter. At the chapter select menu you can level up your crew, buy words and upgrade stats like HP and turn count, I finished the game and had enough currency to buy everything from the store only to find out there was a Attack Power upgrade all the way at the bottom that you could have scrolled down all this time, I was baffled that it was hidden like that with no indication of its existence and it would have stayed that way if I wasn’t doing a checklist. Overall I really like this game, I plan on 100% and replaying it on hard mode is fun, but the difficulty is still a tad bit too easy even half way through the story. The gameplay loop is very tiring though, having to calculate damage and keeping weaknesses in check is fun but exhausting to keep up. Although the bugs and UI were distracting, it didn’t ruin the game for me, I still had a Wonder of a time.
