This is exactly how VR games should be. The first boss is terrifying.

It's not the newest game, which shows in graphics and mechanics, BUT it is a very solid, very fun VR experience that can be enjoyed by VR Beginners and Veterans alike. The game has some Half Life Flair mixed with a hint of Portal and some rather unique weirdness. Overall the progression and buildup in the game is very well done, and the finale was truly fun. Really has that movie-ending flair of all out action, like a good drop in a song. There is one thing I really, really, really dislike about the game though, and I do not understand why it is even in the game the way it is: The first boss. That fight is such a contrast to the rest of the game that one could assume it was done by a different developer. See, the first boss fight is a clunky, glitchy, extremely difficult bullet-sponge fight. You have barely entered the game, and have to fight this thing that has AT LEAST 5x the health-pool of any other boss you will encounter in the game. And you have no gun at that point, only a shock stick to reflect the bosses shots back, and fend off an increasing number of tentacles at the same time. Problem is, your hits on the tentacles don't always register, and then you get hit. In a fight that is extremely long and extremely difficult. After 2 hours of trying, I actually had to cheat for the first time in over a decade to pass that boss. It just was impossible to do otherwise, because the few times I nearly managed to kill him, a tentacle deflect glitched, the block didn't count, and I got killed despite doing what I am supposed to. I have played my share of difficult VR games, but that fight is just BAD. Not challenging. But truly, awfully bad. And you encounter it super early in the game. Which can really ruin the game for you, because it makes it seem as if this is the way the game will play. Which it does not. Everything after that boss is super fun, and very well done. So why is that awful bossfight in there? Who tf knows. Do yourself a favor. Open console, enter godmode, get that first boss nonsense over with, leave godmode again, and have a ton of fun with what follows. I would have loved more story in this game. Or more interesting notes and documents to find. The game doesn't really "need" story to be fun, but half of the time I asked myself why I am even doing what I am doing, so a little more would have done a lot for immersion. HUGE BONUS, because not many VR games do this: This game has left handed support. You can freely choose which will be your main hand for interactions, and which stick you want to use for movement. Also, it runs well and has a nice style. PROS: +Runs well +Great image clarity +Style works well for VR +Fun use of VR mechanics +Fun progression +Fun arcade gunplay +Interesting style +Good soundtrack for action scenes, especially towards the end +Interesting leveldesign and puzzles - invites to explore and try stuff +Occasional grotesque weirdness in a unique way +Minigun. +Good comfort settings and customisation options for controls +Beginner friendly +Simple controls, good UI +Mostly very fair respawn points +Theres a sequel game that is supposedly better than this one - and since this one was worth the money, I am looking forward to the next. CONS: -The horrible, god-awful first bossfight (nearly made me refund the game) -Occasional small soundbugs in certain areas (music suddenly cutting out) -Beginning of the game is a bit too slow (but gets rapidly better after the first 1/4) -A bit short, around ~5-6h. (But still worth the money.)
