After playing Parliament of knives and Out for blood, which I liked to a large extent, I was very interested in getting to know other similar games, and drew attention to this game as part of a series from the same developer. At the time of writing this review, I played the game twice. If the first playthrough caused a feeling of dissatisfaction, then the repeated playthrough finally cemented it. Where to begin? The game has an unpleasant author's style, vague descriptions and a strange choice of lines for the character, which not only kills the whole atmosphere, but also does not allow you to form a sense of where the events are taking place. There are very few dialogue and action options; the choice of options often does not correspond to the description and leads to random and unrelated events, which, instead of the feeling of role-playing character control, give rise to the feeling that the author of the game is punishing you for choices that the author is not happy with. The characters are absolutely not developed, at best at the level of a cliché wrapper without significant filling. Their motivation is not clear, and their character is empty. Not the least, but the most important of all of the above is the length of the game. Of all the games in the series I have played, this is the shortest, which makes all the negative aspects mentioned in this review even more significant and poignant. With the fact that I was distracted, had more than one snack, restarted a couple of times and completed the entire game twice, it took me about 4 hours of play - such a length of a text game is simply unacceptable, double unacceptable taking into account other aspects. And finally, the last thing I wanted to add is the question of the author’s political beliefs. We all understand that, whether we like it or not, VTM is a pretty tolerant setting, in the good and bad sense of the word. I respect the position of the creator of this series of games with their tendency to cater to a wide audience to ensure they are comfortable in their role-playing experience, but a thug who seriously asks for pronouns to address the protagonist? Half of the at least slightly developed characters are anti-fascist fighters for migrants, feminists, trans and vulgar homosexual misogynists? If the creators really want a pleasant experience for a wide audience of the game, they need to know the limits in such things, otherwise the representation turns into a circus of freaks, and the game from a game about vampires turns into a game about the political beliefs of the author. To sum it up, I can say with confidence that I would not recommend anyone to try this game. If you are interested in a deep plot and a solid long-term story in a VTM setting, try Parliament of knives and Out for blood, and if you have already tried these games and are trying to find a game to get a similar experience, then with a high probability you will not get a similar experience in this game.

I'll say outright that this one is well written, although one can tell that it was by a different hand. The witty humour present in the others is not to be found here, but it is not a bad thing. And yes, it's indeed way shorter than the others. The length being the most often voiced criticism here: If I were to compare it to something tangible: at the beginning it feels like a continuous story, a game running smoothly, but at one point, the whole world springs frantically to action and your frame rate drops so hard that you only get a snapshot here and there. One can get the whole picture, but it sure feels like you should be able to do and see more than you're allowed. The other frequently voiced point - the lack of transparency when it comes to character creation: You do not get to choose explicitly, but if you know your Vampire the Masquerade background, you can easily guess which choices get you what, stats as well as the possible clan. So, just as with the others, with a little planning and thought you can easily get a character you might be aiming for. And the last but not least - the frequently discussed seeming lack of choice: Your choices have consequences just as in the other games, but there is a unique twist in this one. The role of fate - explored from various POVs and, in my opinion, handled well enough to even make you come back and re-read. One may feel powerless on occasion, but I believe that it's kind of the point - sometimes IRL your choices do not bring you the results you had expected or wished for, which makes this particular story indeed feel realistic and dark, completely worthy of being part of the WoD series. It is precisely this aspect of the game that in fact made me replay it (given the shorter length) even more times than the others - I enjoyed re-reading it through the eyes of different characters to see where it would take me given the same or different choices. And I will definitely come back to it some more. Having stated all that, I feel compelled to say that if you liked the others, you should give it a try and read this one too: the setting and the perspective is unique and intriguing. But, given the metaphoric number of blank pages in this tome, wait for a sale.
I was hoping for a rich contextual story of neonate working their way into the city at night, instead we get woke PC jargon sprinkled with colorful mnemonically shadow character development and plot. It was my hope for a better experience, buyer beware!
This isn't absolutely terrible, just jumps around a lot without good transitions and some of those are extremely jarring with big plot holes. The main writing is alright, but It doesn't feel fleshed out and really finished at all; it's more like an outline or as someone else said a rough draft. It's not in the same league at all as Nightroad, Parliament of Knives or even Coteries of New York (all 3 of them, and not all those are great). This is much shallower and much shorter, stats and skills barely matter at all, the last half is especially rushed. I got this on sale for $8 and finished in under 3 hours, I don't see myself doing another play through. Even on sale I'm not sure I can recommend this. Get the other Vampire the Masquerade ones listed above first, and then Book of Hungry names from the Werewolf ones at least. If you have nothing else to read, because you've played nearly everything else as I have, I still wouldn't pay more than $5.
I went into this one with incredibly low expectations and was still so disappointed. Not even my super autistic hyper-fixation on VTM could convince me this was good. The first chapter starts off pretty decent, but anything after that is terribly written. Doesn't feel like it takes place in the universe or has much to do with VTM. Very flat characters and story that I could not care about at all. It's also super short, I can't believe it's price for two hours of content. Don't bother with this one, just play Night Road and Parliament of Knives instead.
现存的几部Vtm if 游戏个人喜好排名 night road> >Parliament of knives >sins of the sires>>>out for blood
Coming back weeks later to say... This game haunts me. I've talked to so many friends about this game. I think about Neoptolemos constantly: in the shower, on the bus, while walking to the city center. I have talked to SO many people about Neoptolemos. I have read Sophocles' Philoctetes for the sake of understanding Neoptolemos' namesake now. I have compared translations of Sophocles' Philoctetes to best obtain the best Neoptolemos dialogue lines. I have read parts of the Aeneid. I have gone into the pits of reading books on modern Greek history (sadly written by white and very British men teaching at stuffy old colleges). I have machine translated whole swathes of 18th and 19th century Greek poetry. I have scrubbed the internet for scholars who have written analyses on the portrayal of Thanasis Vayas in Valaoritis' poem. I have COMBED and RECOMBED the game script for hours on end to lick and slobber at the character lore lines. (shotgun sounds) Thank you mister Natalia Theodoridou, the OG Neoptolemos fan. I can only TASTE how hogwild the author of this game went for Neoptolemos, but I am cooking up the soup. I am DRINKING the soup [of Neoptolemos]. mMMmMMmmMmmmmm...
Oh no. I feel a quest coming on: Protect the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mortal.
I'll keep the review length on par with the game length: It's a visual novel whose charming writing is cut at the knees by whiplash pacing. No music, scarce character artwork that evokes nothing telling about them. There are motifs from Greek mythos across the game, that much is clear. It's a shame we never get the chance to really chew on that, visit hardly any exotic historical places for more than a spell. And the game succeeds in maintaining the appropriate vibe of VTM. The writer is clearly experienced, I hope they get the chance to flex their full potential in a longer, better paced narrative. But for Sins of the Sires? No, I can't recommend this.
I am a big fan of the Choice of Games Vampire series, I have played and enjoyed all the others. I even have around 80 hours into Night Road because I've replayed it so much. This one is simply not as good. It's the same general formula, and it has some nice characters and art and I actually really enjoy the setting, but everything is just shorter and shallower in this compared to the other games. There isn't much more to say, honestly. Due to the nature of these text games, the actual game play of this is virtually identical to the others, there is just far less of it. Unless you REALLY love the franchise and this series, I wouldn't recommend it. Just go play Night Road, Out For Blood or Parliament of Knives, all of which are great games and much better than this one.
