Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
13 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Aug 21 → 2/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

no autosave, when my game crashed suddenly, when I relaunched i am still on the prologue, lost almost 8-10 hours of progress. 1 out of 10. will not replay to completion due to loss of progress.
Strange game this like, 3rd person XCOM, real time reaction fire from your own troops and enemies gives a more immersive feel. Tactics are varied but sadly the game seem to awards you more for bumrushing than taking a more clinical approach. Still you can play it however you feel and story is compelling enough to keep it moving, and being moving in places too. All of this underscored with a beautiful soundtrack and aesthetic it's worth giving a try. I strongly recommend bashing your head against a wall first time through and finding ways to a rank and seeing what secrets (Enemy Aces and hidden recruits) you can uncover then using what you learned to smash it on new game plus. Only real problems I can think of are a few missions where ambushes are lobbed on you via trigger points you had no way of knowing existed. Some of the mechanics in a couple missions are poorly/timed obscurely too. But this only happens a couple of times throughout and you can generally save yourself from any of these situations.

13 on sale2 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 2 “not sold” markets are read from the Steam price pass of Sep 11: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price in those. The 13 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

VERY GOOD GAME, JANE OP. wish the missions were better designed tho. Lot of the missions require constant save scumming just cause they are not explained properly.
Story
I would summarize the story as Anime WWII in alternate Europe. It's rather fun/entertaining, although it's only somewhat good. Only few members of Squad 7 are shown in the story, which prevents you from getting overwhelmed and helps character growth. On the other hand, it has some common tropes found in JRPG/Anime which makes it predictable. On the technical side, it uses a combination of 3D pre-rendered cutscenes and pseudo VN as the storytelling approach. You can choose between English and Japanese VA. The Japanese ones have good casting, although I notice there are few discrepancies between Japanese VA and English subtitles which may annoy you.
Gameplay
TLDR: Fun gameplay with unique mechanics, but held back by some issues. I really like the gameplay, it combines turn-based and pseudo real-time mechanics. There are various ways to finish the operation, although the game encourages you to finish it quickly by giving lots of EXP (to upgrade unit squad/classes) and DCT (to upgrade weapon, armor and tank). Overall I would say the gameplay is decent. However, few mechanics don't feel intuitive while few operations simply have terrible design. For example,
Diverting the Marmota
has very confusing mechanics where I believe you need several retries while
Final Showdown has an HP sponge boss who can "respawn" 3 towers on each turn which makes him invulnerable
. Some unit squads/classes also feel unbalanced. Just like other players, I also heavily rely on Scout to kill majority of enemies and fulfill some of operation's goals. Lancers also feels very tanky, especially against explosive-type damage. I almost never use Engineer either. The difficulty of combat operations in the main story is heavily varied. My result varied from getting A-rank in one try to having to use a guide after failed a few times. I didn't perform any grinding though, which means you don't have to do it either if you're good at strategy games or use a guide. This game also lacks some quality-of-life features. There's no auto-save feature or at least reminders to make a manual save. More importantly, there's no 2x/4x/8x fast-forward during enemy turn on the combat operation. That means you'll be forced to see many enemy moves and transition animations which could take few minutes on each enemy turn. It's even more annoying since the game will pause if you Alt-Tab or have had to restart the combat.
Side story
There are 2 side stories, which can be accessed by choosing "Extra" on the main menu. Both of them are very short, where you should see them after finishing the main story. Each of them also has exactly one combat operation. I find both of them are harder than combat operations in the main story, where I had to use guides.
Other
This game runs well on my Linux device, without any manual tweaking or configuration. Other reviewers mentioned crash issue, although it never happened to me.

If you're a fan of tactical RPG games, you probably will like this game if you don't mind some flaws. However if you happen to own PS4 or PS5, you should know there's a remastered version exclusive for PS4. You may want to do some research to see which version is better for you.
Valkyria Chronicles™, developed and published by SEGA, is a tactical role-playing game that stands as one of the most innovative and emotionally impactful titles in its genre. Originally released for the PlayStation 3 in 2008 and later brought to PC via Steam, the game combines turn-based strategy, third-person action, and a gripping wartime narrative, all wrapped in a visually stunning watercolor aesthetic known as the “CANVAS” engine. Its blend of storytelling, character development, and layered tactical gameplay makes it a standout experience that continues to resonate with fans more than a decade after its debut. Set in the fictional continent of Europa, the game draws heavy inspiration from early 20th-century Europe, particularly the events of World War II. The story centers on Gallia, a small, neutral country caught in the crossfire between two great powers—the East Europan Imperial Alliance and the Atlantic Federation. Players follow Welkin Gunther, a young lieutenant and nature enthusiast, as he leads Squad 7, a diverse group of soldiers resisting the Imperial invasion. The narrative is driven by themes of sacrifice, nationalism, prejudice, and hope, and it’s told with a rare blend of earnestness and nuance. The game doesn't shy away from the harsh realities of war but balances its darker moments with warmth, camaraderie, and character-driven subplots. Gameplay in Valkyria Chronicles™ is its defining feature, offering a unique hybrid system that merges turn-based strategy with real-time, third-person shooting mechanics. Each battle is played out on a tactical map where players use Command Points (CP) to activate individual units. Once selected, control shifts to a third-person perspective where the player moves the unit in real time, carefully navigating terrain and lining up shots manually. The system encourages both planning and improvisation, rewarding careful positioning, cover usage, and unit synergy. It bridges the gap between traditional strategy and action, making each move feel personal and tense. The game features five main unit classes: Scouts, Shocktroopers, Lancers, Engineers, and Snipers, each with distinct strengths and roles. Scouts are mobile and ideal for recon or objective captures, while Shocktroopers are suited for front-line combat. Lancers serve as anti-tank units, Engineers provide repairs and support, and Snipers offer precise long-range elimination. Mastering how to mix these roles and adapt to different battlefield layouts is critical to success. Adding depth are terrain mechanics, line-of-sight systems, and permadeath for non-story characters, creating real consequences for tactical missteps. Beyond combat, the game invests heavily in its characters through both main story missions and optional side episodes. Squad 7 is made up of over 20 individual soldiers, each with their own personality, voice lines, and “Potentials”—unique traits that can either benefit or hinder them based on battlefield conditions or who they fight alongside. This layer of individuality encourages players to develop emotional attachments to even non-central characters, making every deployment more personal. The Bond of comradeship is central to the experience, and losing a favorite soldier due to poor positioning or risky tactics carries real emotional weight. Visually, Valkyria Chronicles™ is a masterpiece. The CANVAS engine renders the game in a distinctive hand-drawn, sketchbook style, giving the visuals the appearance of a living watercolor painting. This artistic choice does more than just set the game apart stylistically—it underscores the narrative’s storybook framing, which reflects the idea that you’re reading a chronicle of the war. Character designs are expressive, the world feels detailed and lived-in, and the environmental diversity across missions—from lush fields and dense forests to urban ruins and snowy fortresses—adds to the sense of scale and realism within the fantastical setting. Complementing the visual direction is an equally memorable score composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, known for his work on Final Fantasy Tactics. The orchestral soundtrack evokes a strong emotional range, from the tension of battle to the melancholy reflections between missions. Voice acting, available in both English and Japanese, is well-performed, giving life and sincerity to the cast. The game’s tone manages to balance idealism and grim realism, and the audiovisual presentation plays a key role in achieving that delicate balance. While Valkyria Chronicles™ is a deeply rewarding experience, it’s not without flaws. The enemy AI, while generally competent, occasionally exhibits predictable behavior, and some later missions lean heavily on trial-and-error rather than pure tactical brilliance. There are moments when the difficulty spikes unevenly, especially due to mechanics like tank weaknesses or bosses that require specific units to defeat efficiently. Additionally, the lack of mid-mission saves can sometimes result in frustrating restarts after lengthy engagements. However, these issues rarely overshadow the game’s overall strengths and are often addressed by experimenting with different strategies. The PC version of Valkyria Chronicles™ is well-optimized, offering improved resolutions and frame rates over the original console release. It includes all the original DLC, providing extra missions and side stories that flesh out the world even further. Modding support and a committed community have kept the game alive on PC, and its influence can be seen in its sequels and spiritual successors. The port ensures that new players can experience this classic with modern conveniences and minimal barriers to entry. In conclusion, Valkyria Chronicles™ is a beautifully crafted and emotionally rich tactical RPG that blends innovative gameplay with heartfelt storytelling and stunning visuals. Its unique approach to strategy, memorable cast, and poignant themes elevate it well beyond its genre peers. It’s a rare example of a game that successfully fuses mechanics and narrative into a cohesive and lasting experience. For those who appreciate thoughtful strategy, artistic storytelling, and a fresh take on wartime narratives, Valkyria Chronicles™ remains a must-play gem that has rightfully earned its place among the genre’s best. Rating: 9/10
Fun game good amount of strategy involved to pass later levels, characters can die permanently so be careful when deciding whether or not to dash to a objective
Fire Emblem but I can controll the units in third person? Sign me up! But then its a clanky shooting game with the story of a kindergarden book. Dunno if it gets better later on, stopped playing after Chapter 7 or so. Going through all the screens in the menu just to do stuff was also annoying. Can't reccommend
TIRO, PORRADA E BOMBA NUMA EUROPA VERSÃO ANIME
