About
This is Tyr, a tank shooter where positioning, strategic decision-making, and mastery of unique abilities win.
Tyr features a roster of specialized armored vehicles and pilots. You’ll take control of treaded and hover tanks alike as you angle & position for defense, and rumble and glide across the battlefield.
Each vehicle also offers its own tech tree and ammo & component slots, affording you the ability to upgrade and evolve your ride to suit your playstyle. You may even be able to change up your vehicle’s unique keystone tech to dynamically alter your personal meta.
Each vehicle features a unique power that impacts Tyr’s moment-to-moment play on the battlefield. A tank may have the ability to blink several vehicle lengths forward or back, send out a sonar pulse to spot enemies, or overcharge its engine to ram directly into an opponent and deal massive damage.
In Tyr, you and your opponents will only be visible when within range or while making enough noise. Deciding when to push forward and when to fire from cover could mean the difference between staying hidden and revealing your position to the entire enemy team, so play carefully.
Tyr will test your mental mettle, patience, and teamwork, as deliberate play beats whoever can fire the fastest.

"An exercise in frustration"

Cons:
- slow, plodding gameplay where new players are at a statistical disadvantage to players who play more - Horrid balance issues, including tanks that are 100% impervious to the fire of other tanks. Why not just go all Atlas and be invincible I guess? Tanks that can "teleport" behind you and shoot you repeatedly faster than even med or lights can turn around to deal with it. The balance is horrid. - Being shot from 1000m away by tanks you cant see at all on your screen, but somehow they can see you I guess? This is a super unfun mechanic. - Blurry, bad graphics - Most tanks are locked behind some serious grind or pay to play payalls with premium currency. - No voice chat OR text chat, so you cannot communicate with your team. In a game that relies heavily on teamwork, this is a huge fail.
Pros:
- Free I guess? - Art style is neat - Runs well, doesnt crash Overall: Do not recommend this unless you enjoy being frustrated by glaring balance issues and repeatedly wrecked by people who know exactly how to exploit the balance issues to their favour. Very unforgiving for someone who isnt sweatlord no-lifing it to unlock the best and most broken tanks, or paying real money to get said tanks, and without text or voice chat in a team game, I doubt this will have much staying power. I'd give it a year before it goes into maintenence mode or shuts down completely.
The spotting mechanic singlehandedly drags this game from A to C tier. As is, every tank is completely invisible by default. Once you are in detection range (different for each tank) and in line of sight (clarity: a line can be drawn from your tank to an enemy tank with no obstructions, even if you are OUT of their FOV) for any member of the other team, the entire team gets wallhacks on you for 7 seconds. This results in frustratingly long stalemates and grinding the game pace to a halt repeatedly. Every tank class is punished for moving, but especially Light class for moving up the field to flank or scout the enemy... which is exactly what they are designed to do. Everyone who has played the scorch map has seen this at it's maximum, where anyone crossing the midpoint of the map gets destroyed near immediately by firing squad. Giving people 7 seconds to react and track you through walls is kinda insane considering a single shot to the tracks is capable of completely immobilizing any tank and guaranteeing they can be killed. Tired of seeing your scouts sit at the back of the map in a bush? Tired of the sniper players being the last alive a mile away from where they were needed? Wondering why your "heavy frontliners" only want to push that middle corridor with walls on both sides? Well, it's because doing anything else in those tanks is the fastest way to get sent back to lobby... by design. Don't get mad at the players for doing the only thing that lets them survive. I'd recommend shortening the "Spotted" status to 1-3 seconds after clearing line of sight. Minimum. Most prefered is, turn off invisibility and wallhacks entirely and just let players maneuver intelligently to "sneak". Second biggest gripe, there's very little communication unless you are playing with friends over discord (squad size max is 3, team size is 8v8). Really difficult to coordinate, or warn that ally aiming across the field about the enemy that is RAPIDLY APPROACHING FROM THE LEFT. (Yes, despite the free wallhacks many players are THAT oblivious). If they would fix these two features, it'd easily be a 8-9/10.
It's a fun game for what it does. The tanks should be a tad more role oriented, or rather the roles between light/medium/heavy should be more apparent. The gaps between those is not very much there when there's mauls (heavy tank) who can drive as fast as Ikarus' (light tank). Plus the abilities should be a bit more front and center, they seem more like a "oh if you maybe have enough energy you can use it" kinda deal, rather than the more moba oriented "costs nothing, just has a cd" approach
I never played tank shooters, but saw an ad for this on youtube and liked the colors. Plus you there's a tank here that turns into a fighter jet. How cool is that. This game is easy to pick up, and hard to master. I would definitely recommend checking this game out.
easy to pick up, hard to master. very fun
if world of tanks was a good game
5 minutes in queue to die from 3 enemies you cant see, without ever getting to fire a shot, is certainly a design choice.
