Tukoni: Forest Keepers is a wonderfully gentle puzzle adventure that places atmosphere, kindness, and curiosity ahead of urgency or conflict. Developed by Dream Operator and published by Dream Operator and Gamersky Games, the project was created in collaboration with Ukrainian artist Oksana Bula, whose illustrated Tukoni books provide the foundation for its distinctive woodland universe. The result feels like an interactive storybook, combining hand-drawn environments with an autumnal setting populated by forest spirits and animals preparing themselves for the arrival of winter. Players take the role of Traveller, a forest spirit entrusted with a special seasonal mission. Autumn is an important period for the woodland community, with animals preparing for their winter routines while the Forest Keepers organize supplies, pillows, and other necessities. Rather than presenting Traveller as a conventional hero fighting some enormous threat, the story makes helping others the central motivation. Around twenty inhabitants can be encountered throughout the journey, each possessing their own personality, concerns, and little stories. This gives even relatively ordinary errands a sense of purpose because completing them contributes to the broader feeling of a community working together. Exploration takes place across four hand-drawn locations filled with small homes, hidden pathways, natural scenery, and environmental details worth investigating. The presentation is easily one of the game's defining qualities. Its illustrated aesthetic avoids excessive visual clutter and instead embraces the warmth of children's literature, with whimsical creatures and inviting landscapes giving every location a strong personality. The seasonal backdrop is particularly effective, allowing autumn leaves, streams, vegetation, and tiny woodland structures to create an environment that feels comforting without becoming visually monotonous. Puzzle solving provides most of the active gameplay. Dozens of handcrafted challenges and mini-games are woven into exploration, involving objects that need arranging, locks that require solutions, misplaced belongings, clues to interpret, and other environmental problems. These challenges generally complement the peaceful tone instead of abruptly turning the adventure into a demanding logic test. The Notebook is particularly useful because it documents Traveller's experiences while also providing guidance and information that can contribute to puzzle solutions. It fits naturally into the world rather than functioning like an intrusive hint menu. Gathering herbs and learning tea recipes add another pleasant dimension. Traveller eventually gains the ability to prepare different teas, turning exploration and ingredient collection into something more meaningful than simply accumulating items. Brewing tea for woodland friends reinforces the game's focus on hospitality and companionship. It is a small mechanic, but one that matches the setting remarkably well. Instead of adding crafting merely for progression, tea preparation becomes another way of interacting with the forest and its inhabitants. One of the more unusual design choices is the deliberate encouragement of inactivity. Cozy resting places are hidden throughout the environments, inviting Traveller to sit beside a stream, relax beneath autumn foliage, sketch in the Notebook, or simply appreciate the surroundings. There is no requirement that every second must contribute toward completing an objective. This willingness to give players quiet moments strengthens the atmosphere considerably, particularly for anyone approaching the game as a relaxing experience rather than something to complete as efficiently as possible. The family-friendly direction also works in its favor. The approachable puzzles, colorful presentation, whimsical humor, and absence of threatening gameplay make it suitable for younger audiences while retaining enough artistic personality to appeal to adults who enjoy cozy adventures. Parents and children could comfortably explore and solve puzzles together. The obvious tradeoff is that players seeking complicated mechanics, difficult puzzles, combat, extensive progression, or dramatic narrative tension may find the experience too restrained. Its challenge comes primarily from observation and deduction rather than mechanical mastery. Controller support is another positive characteristic, particularly when considering portable play. Steam data indicates full controller support, which makes the control scheme promising for handheld use. However, there is currently no clear official Steam Deck Verified or Playable designation visible in the available Steam information. Steam Deck users should therefore treat compatibility as unofficial rather than guaranteed. Given its point-and-click structure and controller support, it appears conceptually well suited to portable sessions, but actual performance, interface readability, and any Proton-related behavior should be considered separately from an official Valve compatibility rating. What makes the experience memorable is the consistency of its design. Helping animals prepare for winter, collecting herbs, brewing tea, solving small environmental puzzles, filling the Notebook, and occasionally sitting quietly in nature all reinforce the same central idea. There is little interest in making the player powerful. Instead, progress comes through being attentive and useful to others. This gives the adventure a sincerity that many cozy games attempt but do not always achieve. Tukoni: Forest Keepers succeeds as an intentionally peaceful adventure rather than trying to disguise itself as something mechanically larger. Its greatest strengths are its beautiful storybook presentation, charming characters, integrated puzzles, relaxing exploration, and unusual commitment to letting players enjoy small moments without constant pressure. The gentle difficulty and low-stakes structure will not satisfy everyone, but those characteristics are fundamental to its identity rather than substantial weaknesses. For players who appreciate hand-drawn point-and-click adventures, wholesome storytelling, nature-focused settings, and games designed primarily to leave them feeling relaxed, this is an exceptionally charming journey through the woods.
