This game is NOT addictive. After 1900 hours I am sure that I could stop playing it anytime I want.
Good game. Sadly, devs sold out to Paradox. Won't recommend their products from this point on.
Transport Fever 2 is a masterclass of a Game. It excels as a Transport Tycoon Management Game, but even better than that, the Devs have stumbled upon untapped potential as a Model Railway Creator. The extensive amount of mods made by the community have transformed my experience in this game to transcend functioning as a "Game" in the traditional sense. It can be used as a Diorama Creator with beautiful building and detailing in mind akin to the City Builder. While the game will not reward you directly for this, it still is an option and scratches the itch of playing with a Railroad Diorama. It would cost hundreds, if not thousands of anyone's currency in order to create some of the things possible in this game on a real physical set.
Looking at the Game Modes:
[*] The Game has a shoe-ed in Campaign that comes in handy to teach you the actual mechanics of the game. You will learn much more on your own tinkering in free play, but its a good idea to get grounded first via chapter 1 and 2. [*] Free play is the bread and butter of the game. 99% of your time will be in this mode. [*] Map Creation is a neat feature that allows you to create your own world to play in. You can import height maps from online to base it off of real world locations! Transport Fever 2 will forever be in my library, and I encourage any Rail fan who is into model railroad building, riding their creations, and watching their network run to take advantage of this Game and all it has to offer. Don't be afraid of the Mods! ★★★★★
Bought it during an engine-themed games festival on Steam. Unfortunately, Urban Games made partnership with Paradox Interactive recently, in order to finish TFever3. Paradox is infamously known to manage their games with too much cash-grabbing policies: 20 bucks game, forcing you buy another 10 DLCs at 20 bucks too, even when many them are indispensable for a satisfactory gameplay! Because of that, I cannot stand with Urban Games about this decision and, therefore, I'll label this review as not recommended. They've said the IP will stay with them, meaning in theory Paradox will have less control; but remember, these are just words. Only time will tell if this is gonna be bad or good for us random peasant gamers. The work itself is fine, stable and non-enshittified. This, however, is not enough to justify what they're doing.
PLEASE DO NOT GO THROUGH WITH PARADOX. THEY WILL STRANGLE YOU, GUT YOU, THEN LEAVE YOU OUT FOR THE CROWS. PLEASE DO NOT GO THROUGH WITH PARADOX.
This is probably the best game for a lot of genres. You can totally build cities, infrastructure, tracks and all in one game. The graphics are basically better than C:S2 and the performance is better as well. Game's been in development for a long time by a Swiss dev team known since Train Fever, which I actually bought on CD. The game is moddable, with thousands of mods on the steam workshop, mod.io is also integrated for console players, but bear in mind that compared to steam workshop, mod.io is limited in the number of mods. As for TPF3, I want to stay hopeful, and hope that the team keeps it's promises. Paradox being the publisher was something I really wasn't expecting, and judging by their history of games, it's not looking good. But, only time will tell. I'm gonna stay hopeful.
Good game but they partnered up with Paradox, will change this review if they stop working with them.
Initially really fun, but the more I played the more I felt like nothing I did mattered. The world doesn't really react to you, and you have no rival companies to challenge you, so you're really playing just for your own satisfaction. Still, it was good whilst it lasted.
Shame the devs sold their soul and didn't think the players would have a problem. We're disappointed because we were very excited for the 3rd game and now we already know the game is just a cash cow, will have features and content cut out just to sell it as DLC. It's strange, they had a guaranteed hit with a fan base ready with their money and then they let the wolves in.
UI is very challenging in a bad way. There is no tutorial as such, just a sort of bare bones rundown as part of the campaign. There are layers of menus, most of which are never explained, the gameplay is counter-intuitive, there is hyper-fixation on some details while other very basic concepts are ignored, and tedious and repetitive campaign mode. I do appreciate the scripts leading into the missions, they are somewhat funny. I paid $8 for this and it feels like I got ripped off.
