Ryan George Style Pitch Meeting:
THE SETTING: The meeting takes place inside a colossal, rotating, high-gloss sapphire dodecahedron suspended in the center of a neon-obsidian nebula. The Publisher is sitting on a throne made of solid blue light that hums an infectious synth-pop melody. The Game Designer is standing on a narrow ledge made of frozen, unmoving drones. Salem is reclining on a velvet chaise lounge wearing a tiny silk robe and eating shrimp cocktail; Sabrina is frantically pointing her finger at a holographic map that keeps turning into a doodle of a cat; Jinx is sitting on a mountain of glowing blue batteries, juggling unexploded grenades; and Gaige is using a blowtorch to add more "flair" to a robot cat companion.
Publisher: So, you have a high-spec, interdimensional errand-running simulator for me? Game Designer: Yes, sir, I do! It’s called Transiruby, and it’s about a cyborg girl named Siruby who looks like she was just buffed with the highest-grade lacquer known to science. Publisher: Oooooh, high-gloss lacquer finishes are tight! Game Designer: They for sure are. She’s exploring this massive world called "Noah" that’s filled with creative enemy designs and the most upbeat, catchy soundtrack you’ve ever heard. It’s an infectious masterpiece! Publisher: Catchy tunes are also tight! So is this a relaxing stroll through a vibrant neon park? Game Designer: Oh, absolutely not. From the developers who looked at a flat surface and said "Absolutely not," comes a game that is 5% standing still and 95% fighting for your life against the laws of gravity. Publisher: Wow wow wow. Wow. That sounds like a lot of jumping. Game Designer: It’s so much jumping, sir. It’s tons of platforming. We’ve got this clever mechanic where you freeze enemies to use them as platforms to get to higher places! Publisher: Won’t it be hard to hit tiny, jittery flying robots with a freeze ray while you’re mid-air? Game Designer: Super easy, barely an inconvenience! Publisher: Oh, really? Game Designer: No, it’s actually incredibly imprecise and frustrating. Gaige: (Interrupting while sparks fly from her blowtorch) It’s the absolute worst! I tried to hop on a frozen drone to reach a ledge, but the hitbox is the size of a grain of salt! I plummeted five hundred feet into a dark pit. It was a tedious re-climb that felt like a repetitive time-sink. I’m about five seconds away from calling in a giant mechanical bodyguard to just blast a hole in the ceiling! Publisher: Why wouldn’t you just put a staircase there? Game Designer: Because! Publisher: Fair enough. So what happens if the player gets tired of jumping and wants to find where they're going? Game Designer: Well, they can look at the map! Sabrina: (Waving her hand at a glitching hologram) I tried to use a locator spell to find the objective, but even magic can't decipher this navigation UI. It lacks any clarity or simplicity. You’re just wandering through winding corridors in a logistical nightmare! Publisher: That sounds like a very confusing maze! Game Designer: It is! And while you’re lost, you have to manage your resources. You see, Siruby uses a gun, but the ammunition capacity is tiny. You have to constantly grind enemies just to be able to defend yourself. Jinx: (Throwing blue batteries into the air) And the ammo diminishes way too easily! I have more firepower in my hair ribbons! You’re out here shaking down robotic wildlife for energy like you're looking for spare change under a couch cushion! It’s exhausting! Publisher: Very considerate of the robotic wildlife to carry spare change! Game Designer: Whoops! Publisher: Whoopsie! Game Designer: Yeah, I forgot to mention that the enemies respawn the instant they move off-screen. So if you backtrack two feet to look at a door, they’re all back. Publisher: Oh my god. That sounds like a state of constant, high-pressure threat in a world that feels lonely and empty because there are no NPCs to talk to. Salem: (Sighing while filing his claws with a diamond-encrusted file) It’s lonelier than my 500-year sentence in here. There are no NPCs to talk to, no gossip, no snacks. Just me and this robot cat who doesn't even have the decency to meow. It’s insulting! I’m a warlock, not an interdimensional errand runner! Publisher: A robot cat? Oooooh, robot cats are tight! Game Designer: They are! But then, just when the player thinks they’ve got the hang of the grinding and the jumping and the confusing map... we hit them with the First Boss. Publisher: Is the boss a fun, casual test of the skills they've learned? Game Designer: It’s an unfair, jarring difficulty spike that represents a breaking point for the human spirit! It’s an unforgiving escalation where the margin for error is non-existent. Salem: (Throwing a shrimp at the Game Designer) I’ve seen less hostility from the Witches' Council during a tax audit! If you miss one cycle of freezing drones, you get trapped in a laser phase that is a guaranteed death! I officially quit in sheer frustration and I’ve got nine lives to spare! Publisher: Why would you make the first boss a brick wall of death compared to the rest of the game? Game Designer: I don't know! Publisher: What? Game Designer: What? Publisher: Well, okay then! Game Designer: Great! So the player will spend hours re-climbing vertical shafts and grinding for ammo just to get vaporized by a giant robot boss. Publisher: It sounds like a beautiful title wrapped in world-class art that struggles under the weight of its own mechanical friction. Game Designer: Exactly! It’s a striking visual package that is ultimately hampered by its own repetitive tasks! But hey, Siruby always stands out clearly against the backgrounds at all times! Publisher: Visual clarity is tight! I love being able to see exactly which pixel is being vaporized by a laser! [Added 10 Funny Lines:] Game Designer: And if you get frustrated with the boss, you can always just stare at the protagonist's clear silhouette and wonder how someone so shiny could have such a low-capacity battery. Publisher: It’s like owning a supercar with a half-gallon gas tank! Salem: I’ve had hairballs with more storage capacity than Siruby’s gun. Sabrina: I’ve tried to hex the mini-map into showing a straight line, but the map just grew legs and ran away. Gaige: I tried to fix the hitboxes with my blowtorch, but I accidentally made the robotic bees twice as annoying. Jinx: Is it really "high-spec" if you have to stop every ten seconds to ask a drone for a refill? Publisher: It’s more like "Medium-to-Low Spec with a really good paint job." Game Designer: We like to think of it as "Aesthetic-Forward Resource Deprivation." Salem: I once tried to conquer the world with a rolling pin, and even I think the first boss’s laser phase is a bit excessive. Publisher: Well, as long as the music is good, who needs to actually finish the game? Game Designer: Exactly! It’s high-effort presentation all the way down. Publisher: Well, I’m convinced. Let’s get this neon-obsidian lacquer-fest onto Steam immediately. Game Designer: I think people are really going to enjoy the aesthetic while they stop progress permanently after encountering that boss! Publisher: A very stylish exit! I’m excited to release this and watch everyone get stuck on that first major encounter forever. Sabrina: I’m just going to stay here and wait for the bus. This verticality is punishing. Gaige: I’m with her. Fix the ammo capacity and the hitboxes, then call me. Jinx: I’m just here for the vibrant colors, but even I’m bored of the backtracking! Salem: Get me a tuna melt and a save point that isn't at the bottom of a 500-foot pit. Publisher: Well, they seem thrilled! Let's release it! Game Designer: Great!
