TowerClimb is a difficult and rewarding procedurally generated platformer with roguelike elements. Enormous and mysterious towers of ancient unknown origin stand above humanity, extending to the heavens. Struggle forward as a weak human, driven by an iron will to reach the top.
Desperately Convincing You to Buy TowerClimb
Alright, here’s the deal. This is the first review I’m writing in like 10 years of buying games on Steam. I’m someone who plays as many roguelites as I can and always look for the games you can pour hundreds if not thousands of hours into; the FTLs, Isaacs, Slay The Spires, Spelunkys, etc. of the genre. Games you can more or less effectively come back to forever, like Solitaire or something. So when I look at reviews, I tend to pay attention to the average player time. When I saw the reviews of TowerClimb, safe to say I was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ blown away. Almost everyone has 100+ hours, yet the game had a staggeringly low amount of reviews. You can check the New & Trending section for Roguelites right now and find countless new games with lower playtimes and less glowing reviews, but review counts that blow this games out of the water. You might notice I’ve barely played the game, and it’s true, I’ve played for like an hour. I actually played it some years ago too, and ended up refunding it as I was pretty underwhelmed. But this time around, I had to see what it was that made it so repayable to people, and I found a video on YouTube called “TowerClimb - Spelunky’s Deranged Cousin”. If you are interested in this game like I am, and don’t mind having some of its secrets (which realistically, you would have to look up to uncover, anyways) spoiled for you, I implore you to check it out. The amount this game has going for it is staggering and absolutely unexpected based on this store page. To get to the game’s “Legendary” ending, you have to undergo a rigoruous series of challenges to collect several shards, and one of them involves playing the Regular Ending’s final boss in a 1v1 game of basketball, minigame that appears nowhere else in the game. You can then keep the basketball in your inventory for the rest of your run and dribble it to use as a weapon. And most players will probably never see it, even after playing for dozens of hours and beating the main game. That is the level depth and content at play in TowerClimb, and if I hadn’t watched that video, I would have thought this game was 1% as deep as it actually is. This game needs more love. It has less than 300 reviews on Steam after having been released for nearly 10 YEARS at the time of writing this. The developer was planning to add even MORE content to the already staggering amount in the form of a third chapter, but no news has been heard for years. If this game gets more attention and blows up, there’s a chance it might still happen someday, and the game could even be ported to consoles, get proper Steam Deck support (don’t worry I played it on Deck fine after 5 mins of tinkering, just need to look up how to fix Towerclimb using Protonfix with a guide online), etc. Please buy it for yourself. As I’m writing this all I can think about is how eager I am l to pour countless hours into this game and explore all it has to offer.

Chapter 3 has truly brought this game to the next level, and I've found myself falling in love with it all over again. Thank you davioware and quazi for not giving up and finally putting out the update 10 years later. The online works surprisingly well. Feliz navidad
To be submissive is to be still! Oh High and Mighty Tower! Our true devotion never moves. The Tower is Tall! The Tower is Tall! Those who move are heretics. The hand of God will slay. In the green all will be seen. Move not. Pray night and day.
it deserves way more players than it gets
I've played 230 hours of the first two chapters of this game. It's a fantastic and unique experience. I can't wait for chapter 3.
climb tha tower Id say I have well over 300 hours, finally decided to buy the game on steam because its just that good of a game and imo is well worth the 15 dollars. This isn't really a "review" more just me rambling, if you want a review go look at Tobash's, or watch that one YouTube vid Sir Doshington made that just kinda goes over what the game is TowerClimb is one of those games that have an ungodly amount of "problems" to it, but none of them are big enough to actually impact the game for the worse and imo they actually add to the games general vibe. Its rare to find a game that's bold enough to front-load its worst content, the first half is boring and a bit generic compared to the second half but I think that just adds to some of that charm? Like its not "unplayable" or anything its still fun, but the area theming/music choice/gimmicks are just way less creative. You probably wont "Beat" the game or even see that fancy stuff that makes the game so special in the first 10, maybe 20 hours because you'll be too busy fumbling with the games wonky control scheme which tbh I don't know how they landed on it but after a bit you'll get used to it which honestly is like every other game with a unique control scheme so I cant really fault it for that. The music is good but that doesn't really mean anything because literally every indie game with a soundtrack that isn't ambient noise is good, correct me on that if i'm wrong, still though there're some BANGERS in there. Despite the game being the way it is everything just feels fair and just? I've rarely died in a way that felt like BS, more just me skill issue'ing, panicking, or failing to understand an interaction unlike in most other roguelikes where you get a bad item in the first room and immediately know that run is a dud. Afaik there're rarely if any game breaking bugs that can kill a run and there's only been 1 patch like a month or so after the game released, while most people consider that a bad thing HONESTLY I'd say its pretty neat they managed to get the game (mostly) right in their first go rather than like most games where a decade later they're still having to patch out extremely obvious interactions, or alternatively the devs deciding that a feature was actually a bug and getting rid of it. towerclimb is cool, it never goes on sale, id recommend playing it for a bit through a LEGALLY ACQUIRED COPY before deciding whether or not you actually want to buy it because its extremely not for everyone. game's good
One of my favorite games of all time. This game really is a hidden gem that deserves more attention.
It's one of the hardest games I've ever played. Every hazard kills you in one hit, and yet everything still feels fair. No damage numbers, no metagaming upgrades, just pure precision platforming. This game really deserves way more attention, truly a hidden gem.
a very special game
This game is unforgiving. This game is catastrophically, fundamentally difficult. This game is life-ruining, and yet one cannot halt the desire to climb. One must and will climb. Perseverance is key, for the further one progresses, the more bounties the game presents. It can get unhealthily (destructively even) addicting, so please be mindful of your mental and physical health. You are likely to feel an entire array of emotions throughout your journey, sometimes within a short time span. It can be despair, mania, panic, euphoria, relief, tension, fear, doom, dizziness, greed, contentment, rage, bloodlust, bloodlust, bloodlust, bloodlust, bloodlust.
