Touhou Yukkuri Mountain is a relaxing three dimensional suika watermelon style game starring characters from the Touhou Project series, developed and published by BeXide Inc. The core gameplay stays super simple, and the game supports both single player and multiplayer modes. You can play locally or use Steam Remote Play Together with up to 4 players. All playable Touhou characters appear as cute Yukkuri heads. These detailed 3D chibi heads come with each character’s unique matching accessories. The whole game uses soft pastel color tones that feel gentle and easy on your eyes. The default character roster includes Reimu, Marisa, Cirno, Sanae, Koishi and Remilia. Warm laid back background music plays throughout matches, and the playful live commentary from Reimu and Marisa adds plenty of fun with full Japanese voice acting. The rules are straightforward. You only need to toss and drop Yukkuri heads into the bowl to merge and evolve them. When two identical Yukkuri heads collide, they fuse into one bigger Yukkuri version of the character. Pull off continuous chain merges and your score will jump up. There is no countdown timer during play, and the game only ends when any Yukkuri overflows the bowl’s edge. After every run you can view global high score leaderboards to compete against players worldwide. Weekly, monthly and all time rankings are available, and your screen name will show up on the boards if you hit a high enough score. This game is surprisingly addictive for quick casual play sessions. Every time you hit a game over screen you earn small in game pocket money. You can spend this currency to unlock new playable characters, with 30 total Yukkuri to catch and collect. You can also freely adjust which favorite Touhou Yukkuri spawn during matches in the customization menu. One small issue I ran into is that I cannot unlock any of the game’s Steam achievements no matter what I try.
