Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.14/day in the week to Aug 8 → 0.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Touhou Spell Carnival is an ambitious genre crossover that attempts to fuse the precision-heavy chaos of bullet-hell shooting with the deliberate positioning and planning of a grid-based tactical RPG. Developed jointly by Idea Factory, Compile Heart, and STING, and published internationally by Idea Factory International, Inc., the game is both a celebration of the Touhou Project’s long-running identity and a bold experiment that reimagines how its core mechanics can function outside traditional shmup design. The story is framed around a mysterious new event in Gensokyo known as the Spell Carnival, a competition announced through strange pillars appearing across the land. As usual, shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei steps in to investigate, joined by a rotating cast of familiar faces drawn from across the Touhou universe. The narrative leans into lighthearted banter, character-driven humor, and episodic encounters rather than heavy drama. While the plot itself is relatively simple, it serves as an effective excuse to bring together a wide range of characters and justify the unusual battle format, which feels more like a festival of magical duels than a conventional war story. The real heart of the experience lies in its combat system, which is unlike most tactical RPGs. Battles take place on grid-based maps, but instead of static turns where players can calmly analyze the field, combat unfolds under constant pressure from active bullet patterns. Characters move, attack, and activate skills using action points, all while enemy spell cards fill the screen with projectiles that must be physically dodged in real time. This hybrid design forces players to think spatially and tactically while also maintaining moment-to-moment awareness, making positioning and timing just as important as raw stats or abilities. A defining mechanic carried over from classic Touhou games is grazing, where narrowly avoiding bullets builds resources and momentum rather than punishing risk. In Touhou Spell Carnival, grazing becomes a strategic tool, rewarding players who dare to move characters close to danger in order to fuel powerful spell cards or gain battlefield advantages. This creates a constant tension between safety and optimization, pushing players to engage with the chaos rather than simply retreating to defensive positions. Environmental objects and map features further complicate encounters, offering cover, buffs, or obstacles that can dramatically shift how battles unfold. As the game progresses, the complexity of encounters ramps up significantly. Early stages ease players into the hybrid system, but later battles can become dense with overlapping bullet patterns, multiple enemies, and large party formations. Managing several characters at once under this pressure can feel overwhelming, especially when support units or positioning-dependent skills are involved. The absence of generous pause or slowdown options during combat means mistakes are often punished quickly, and success depends on developing both tactical foresight and mechanical confidence. Character variety is one of the game’s strongest points. Drawing from the extensive Touhou cast, each playable character feels mechanically distinct, with spell cards and abilities that reflect their established personalities and powers. Party composition matters, encouraging experimentation with different combinations of damage dealers, area controllers, and support characters. Between battles, interactions at locations like the Hakurei Shrine help flesh out relationships and maintain the series’ trademark charm, ensuring that the game doesn’t become purely systems-driven despite its mechanical density. Visually, Touhou Spell Carnival embraces a colorful and expressive presentation. Character artwork and Live2D-style animations give conversations personality, while combat effects are vibrant and often spectacular. Spell cards fill the screen with elaborate patterns that are visually striking, though this abundance of effects can occasionally impact readability during particularly intense encounters. The soundtrack complements the action with energetic arrangements that fit both the festive tone of the Spell Carnival and the high-pressure nature of combat. While the game’s creativity is undeniable, it is not without drawbacks. The learning curve can be steep, especially for players unfamiliar with either tactical RPGs or bullet-hell shooters. The combination of real-time pressure and strategic decision-making may feel punishing to those who prefer slower, more methodical tactics. Additionally, while the narrative is charming, it remains relatively light and may not satisfy players looking for deep story development or dramatic stakes. Ultimately, Touhou Spell Carnival succeeds as a daring reinterpretation of what a Touhou spin-off can be. It doesn’t aim to replace traditional Touhou shooters or standard tactical RPGs, but instead carves out its own space by forcing two very different design philosophies to coexist. For players willing to embrace its demanding hybrid systems, the game offers a uniquely kinetic tactical experience that feels true to the spirit of Touhou while pushing the franchise in an unexpected direction. It’s a challenging, sometimes chaotic, but undeniably inventive entry that rewards patience, adaptability, and a love for controlled chaos. Rating: 7/10
I was left speechless, it is a wonderful work of art, I loved it, they should make a movie or an anime of this, because I would definitely pay for it, I cried during the credits, thank you for this game, I don't regret it at all
This game has something I never seen before. It was hard playing this game at first, but after a few hours it became very fun. The game is a bit overpriced, but I recommend it for the experience, it's almost impossible to find anything with similar gameplay
