It's a timeless classic and holds up better than any Mario or Zelda game ever made... ...and for anyone who disagrees with that statement... I would really prefer if you'd be quiet! I never see anyone talk about Tomba 2 and it is one of my fondest childhood games. There's just something about it that feels truly unique. If you told me back in the early 2000s that this little game I played in my PSX would be available on the computer after a few years, I would call you crazy. But here it is! Finally on PC. I was so giddy when my wife’s boyfriend bought this for me. I played it straight through, listening to all the dialogue, talking the lore to my wife’s boyfriend , telling him about every nook and cranny’s secrets there are and other theories about Tomba. It had a rough start/release with the OST issues but I'm glad LRG actually worked on a solution. It's one of the few games from my childhood that I still put on every once in a while (Ape Escape 2 being my other example) and it really is amazing. The pacing is just right, you're going through such varied locales in just enough time, while also leaving you with little things to come back to later. Then you also frequently get new gear that changes how you navigate the environment, it really is a metroidvania in that sense. Although come to think of it, the flying squirrel outfit and the pin might be the only set you ever need, once you get them. I wasn't able to finish all of the events when I was a kid, since I didn't have walkthroughs to read but it's 2026 now and it's easier for people to share all their knowledge about the game. One of the main reasons I like Tomba 2 over the first one is that the second game is WAY less obscure regarding main content; theres a lot more direction. That said, for the side content and secrets it’s still quite esoteric, but I kind of like that. What is it, the three secret towers? Finding those feels amazing and awe inspiring. I also think cumbersome platforming mechanics are charming in older games. It’s not that the mechanics are bad or inconsistent, they just require a higher level of precision than we’re used to from modern games. I also really like having challenging optional content in games. Compare to the Clair Obscure beach platforming level: quite hard and very janky platforming; very fun. It’s always interesting to revisit games from that era - the 5th generation was such a transitional period for 3D controls and game design. The clunky controls issue is real. I think a lot of us look back fondly on PS1 games but forget how rough they can feel by modern standards. Games from that era often had unique charm and creativity that made up for technical limitations, but revisiting them can be challenging. For those interested in Tomba 2 but intimidated by the control issues, I would suggest trying the original first. It’s shorter and might give you a better sense of whether you can adapt to the gameplay style. While I do dearly wish this recent PC port was more than just emulation, I'm hopeful that at least a few new players will be able to experience it now. Thank you WhoopeeCamp, TombaClub, LRG, and everyone in the community. I was finally able to 100% my #1 childhood game. For me, personally, I will say Tomba! has decently held up the test of time. 10/10 for my nostalgic self, probably a 7/10 at best for today’s modern audience.

So glad this was re-released. This was one of my favorite games as a kid, and it's still fun today. Hoping for Tomba 3, despite how unlikely that is.
This game is exactly what i remembered from when i was a kid and it is a great feeling to finally go through it all again and 100% i wasn't able to as a kid and I thought that the opportunity to go back and play my favorite game was never going to come by but it did and i couldn't be happier. I would recommend everyone play this game and without any major spoilers if you want to get all the achievements make sure that you get the 1/2 strength potion in the snowy area by revealing the trampoline and then going to the top ledge with the rope on it, jump on the rope turn into a snowball and bounce off the trampoline it will get you a secret potion that you CAN NOT access after defeating the Evil Ice Pig.
Fast pants
This game was my childhood, i was OBSESSED with it. And now that I'm a grown ass adult, things have not changed a bit. This edition right here is definetly great, the rewind feature is a life saver! It helps A LOT with some tedious parts of the game (specifically the trolley and kujara washing minigames... thanks to this feature i didn't want to eat my controller in pure frustration) Also you can play the extra 4 events without having the save files of the first game (but trust me, play that too, it's great!) The only thing i found weird is that the saves of the game are linked to the choosing of the soundtrack. It was a great dive in the nostalgia, this game will always have a special place in my heart! ❤
its the perfect port. It does everything the original did, with a few modern quality of life enhancements. If you liked the original, and you yearn for that feeling again (clunky controls and all), its worth it.
An underrated and respectable sequel to one of the greatest adventure/platformer games ever made
Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return Special Edition, like its predecessor, is an updated port and sequel to the cult classic Tomba!, developed by the original studio Whoopee Camp and Limited Run Games. While this isn't a remaster or a remake, there are quality of life improvements that build on the original experience. Positives + The rewind function enables you to select previous frames of gameplay, of which there is a limit, which can be very helpful if you find yourself making a bad mistake, or falling to an unintended death. It's basically a get out of jail free card, but it's also very handy for a couple of the frustrating minigames, such as the two trolley events (the hardest part of the entire game in my opinion) and the ten levels (yes, ten) of the Kujara washing. + You are now able to save anywhere (apart from during cutscenes) instead of only at the designated signposts across the game's world. This even works in boss fights if you so choose. These are effectively save states that are commonly found in emulators, which can make the game feel a lot easier. + The museum on the main menu is a built-in gallery feature that displays character art, packaging art, manuals, promotional drawings, environment renders and more from the original game's release. + Both the USA/EU and Japanese soundtracks are available for selection before you start playing the game. You are unable to switch between the two once you begin, however. I stuck with the USA/EU version as it's what I'm familiar with and used to. + If you wish to listen to both the USA/EU and Japanese soundtracks of the game whenever you wish, the music player option on the main menu includes all the tracks from both. + Unlike the first Tomba! which simply had characters making inaudible noises for their dialogue, Tomba! 2 has voice acting. While it might not always be the best quality, it makes those you meet feel more alive, as well as the world as a whole. + The soundtrack is once again strong and a highlight, although I will say that I do find the music from the first Tomba! to be superior and much more memorable. + While the first game used 2D sprites for the characters and living creatures, Tomba! 2 renders all characters, enemies, and environments in real-time 3D. Visually, it's a great addition, even if some of the models look slightly rough, but you have to remember that this game was originally released way back in 1999. + There is a wide variety of different weapons and suits to collect that augment Tomba's abilities. + More events have been added since the first game (130 to 137), four of which are bonus missions from the first Tomba! title. + You can select from several display options, such as native, 4:3 (how the game would have looked back on the PS1), 16:9 which is full frame (and this is what I went for), and downsampled which renders the game at a lower authentic resolution (mimicking 240p). You can also select a few different borders to fill the dead space if you choose to play in 4:3, so you avoid any unwanted black bars. Negatives - The trolley cart minigame (both events) can be hugely frustrating and, if not for the rewind function, I'm not sure I would have been able to do it legitimately. - The Kujara Washing minigame feels very repetitive, mainly for the fact that you're required to complete ten levels of it, which is way too much. - The background music for conversations can become annoying and monotonous rather quickly, and you will be hearing it A LOT over the course of the game. There are some variations of it, but there is one particular version you will hear most often. Not a huge thing, but it will get stuck in your head for all the wrong reasons. - Boss battles against the evil pigs haven't been improved on at all since the first game. The only difference is that they're in a 3D space now. They're still not difficult and are pretty simplistic overall. - The story is essentially the same, except this time you're looking for someone rather than a bracelet, and there's one fewer evil pig. I did like the shift of tone at the end of the game and how dark it felt. - It's a shame there are no developer interviews in the museum gallery like there were in the Tomba! Special Edition. - Some of the audio from the characters doesn't always match the text, but I only encountered this a few times. Conclusion Tomba! set the bar high for adventure/platforming gaming and had its own unique charm surrounding it. Tomba! 2 builds on that with the shift to 3D environments, while retaining the core gameplay mechanics and events from the original game. While the voice acting and character models are a little rough around the edges, the game's increased size and depth make it feel like a worthy sequel and I like that it didn't go in a completely different direction from the original. The humorous and silly aesthetic is still very much there. While I can still dream about Tomba! 3 being developed one fateful day, the Tomba! 2 Special Edition can fill the void in your evil pig hunting heart.
Awesome nostalgia game. I really enjoyed every second of it, I legit feels really alive when playing this game. Except during Trolly minigame, nuh uh, I hate this minigame when I was a child and I thought "Eh maybe it's easy now because I understand the game better," when I was about to try the minigame again, but no, I was soooooooooooooo wrong lol Used to save money to go to PS rental so I can play this game almost everyday to complete it but never able to do 100% it (because first, it was so dang confusing, and second, I don't understand English back then lol), but now I'm doing it on my own PC and I can finally 100% everything, feelsgoodman. It feels so nostalgic when I boot up to this game, listening to the music, doing the adventure, getting confused in 4K, man I love this game But would I recommend this game to a new gamer era? I honestly don't think so. This game is hard, atleast hard enough for 2000s game, it feels clunky sometimes. But I guess if you enjoy to have that kind of game? You should try it, both Tomba 1 and Tomba 2
poor performance makes the game unplayable laggy
