This was my first choose-your-own-adventure game in digital format. And though it sparked my interest for many more, and several years have gone by, it is still one of my favorites. It is a very good (and long) Wild West story, and importantly for this format, your choices really feel like they matters - i.e. it is reflected in the writing later.

This is one of the greatest Choose your Own Adventure stories I've played from Choice of Games. There is almost no way of playing the same game twice if you are not actively thinking about which choice is which for this one. It's fun, and the story and characters are very well thought out. I love reading this one!!
Caraway!
Embrace the stupid. After being drafted by the means of a very implausible fake hanging, 'your' character is appointed to be a US Marshal for a county in Nevada. Insane high jinks ensue. Don't think about it too hard, because the author certainly didn't.
good
More of a "Meh" reccomendation. It is a decent CYOA, with good length, seemingly a lot of options and a lot of very interesting adventure "hooks". However it is marred by a noticeable amount of syntax and grammar, as well as continuity errors. The game regularly assumes, or at least describes, little actions that you didn't undertake - and that already in your very first playthrough, which is a real shame, because it ruins the otherwise quite well done immersion into the story and setting as a whole. The game seems to present a lot of options and choices, which is much appreciated, however the pacing and the implementation of the "game mechanics" are inconsistent at times. Sometimes you are presented with options to ask about topics and you have an infinite amount of time to ask about all presented options, which makes these sections feel arbitrary and plotting, especially when other times you make a choice and get thrown into something new entirely, without having been signposted, or even having the option of backing out. Which brings me to another point of TRULY DIRE CRITIQUE for me: The interludes at the start of a chapter, where you go around shopping in your little town are horribly designed and single handedly ruin the immersion of the game for me, wouldn't the following chapter content be as good as it thankfully is. You get to visit shops and improve your gear, however there is NO OPTION to back out of a selected item of interest - if you have money and ask the Blacksmith about special weaponry, you MUST choose one of the weapons to buy, whether you want them or not - leading me to being forced to buy a knife on my sharpshooting Marshall. Furthermore dialogue and options repeat inbetween visits, so you find yourself visiting the gunsmith in every single chapter and clicking on the "Talk about Explosives" Option, not because you ever would to get to BUY some explosives of any kind, no, but because it plainly gives you a stat boost, providing the same lines of dialogue each time. This happens for a variety of vendors in time. It's honestly a shame, as it ruins the aforementioned immersion and feels like an obligatory and opaque grind for stats. Talking about stats - unfortunately the "game" part of this CYOA has it's problems as well, since impactful choices have little or no signposting as to what they do, or what stats they might refer to. A brief example: I found myself fighting an antagonist, the game gave me the otpion of basically going into a gunfight, going into a brawling/knife fighting situation and asking him to surrender, I asked him to surrender, he didn't, so we went for a gunfight. The game gave me the option of then shooting the man in the chest, the head, the hand or his gun. My character has a very high sharpshooting stat and a decently high gunfighting stat, so I evaluated the options thinking that shooting the gun (the smallest target) is the most difficult option and has potential drawbacks of fighting the antagonist in melee, which my character is not apt at doing, same goes for shooting him in the hand and shooting him in the chest is a more easy option for gunfighting - so I opted for the head, since I am as mentioned a very good sharpshooter. Guess what - I died. I reloaded and shot at the revolver - it worked. Why is shooting the head somehow more difficult than shooting a gun out of his hand? Either way the game does not elaborate on which option pertains to which skill, how high your skill might need to be (could say: IT IS A DIFFICULT SHOT TO MAKE), or what might happen if it succeeds, or fails. All in all this is a decent adventure, with great set pieces and adventure ideas, that tragically gets undermined by poor signposting and generally poor game mechanic implementation, as well as the occasional mistake in prose.
