This game didn't have good enough tutorial or begin story. After a while you were able to understand the context of this game. Everything else was just backtracking, so the game was around 15 minutes and after that repetition.
Tick Tock Isle, developed and published by Squiddershins, is a short but memorable indie adventure that blends light platforming, puzzle-solving, and narrative quirks into a compact experience. The story follows Strike, a horologist who travels to an isolated island to repair an old clock tower, only to be caught in a temporal anomaly that sends him into the past. To fix the clock and find his way home, Strike becomes entangled in the lives of the island’s inhabitants across different time periods. It’s a clever setup that gives the game its personality and also frames the puzzles in a way that makes time itself an important part of the environment. The presentation leans heavily on a minimalist retro style, with pixel art that is clean and colorful enough to give each location a distinct identity while remaining functional and easy to read. The characters, though simply drawn, are expressive through their dialogue, and the environments strike a balance between detail and clarity. The soundscape enhances the game’s atmosphere with a light, melodic soundtrack and subtle effects that reinforce the contemplative tone. It isn’t flashy, but the aesthetics suit the game’s offbeat mood and story-driven focus. Gameplay revolves around exploration, dialogue, and puzzles that require both observation and experimentation. Each level involves moving through areas of the island, interacting with characters, and applying collected items in the right places to unlock progress. Unlike traditional point-and-click adventures, Tick Tock Isle trims down inventory management, streamlining interactions so that solutions are often prompted when you have the right item. This design choice keeps the focus on exploration rather than tedious trial and error. There are also small platforming sequences scattered throughout, but these moments serve as diversions rather than central mechanics, breaking up the flow with just enough variety to keep things fresh. The most distinctive feature of Tick Tock Isle is its time travel mechanic. The island exists in different eras, and puzzles often rely on switching between these timelines to alter objects, solve environmental challenges, or piece together character arcs. While this concept is engaging, the execution can feel a bit restrictive since travel between eras is tied to a specific point rather than being freely accessible. Backtracking between locations can sometimes slow down the pacing, but when the time-shifting puzzles click, they offer some of the most rewarding moments in the game. Narratively, the game is quirky and humorous, with characters that lean toward eccentric personalities. Conversations are filled with oddball charm, and the writing keeps the tone light even as it brushes against themes of family and legacy. Still, because the game is so brief, character development feels limited, and the resolution arrives quickly without fully exploring some of the ideas it introduces. This abruptness doesn’t ruin the story but does leave it feeling more like a whimsical vignette than a complete arc. For players who enjoy eccentric indie storytelling, however, this compactness might be part of its charm. In terms of length, Tick Tock Isle is concise, lasting only about an hour or two for most players. This brevity works for those looking for a quick and cozy experience, but it also means that the game’s world and characters never have the space to fully expand. Replay value is minimal, as most puzzles resolve in a straightforward way, and once solved, there is little incentive to revisit them. For many players, the value lies less in mechanical depth and more in enjoying the atmosphere and the short narrative journey. Ultimately, Tick Tock Isle is a small but thoughtful indie game that achieves what it sets out to do. It offers a quirky narrative, light puzzle mechanics, and a unique time travel twist that make its brief runtime enjoyable. While it lacks polish in places and doesn’t provide the depth or complexity of larger adventure titles, its charm lies in its simplicity and its ability to tell a self-contained story without overextending. For those looking for a bite-sized adventure with a whimsical sense of humor and a contemplative mood, it’s a pleasant little gem worth discovering. Rating: 8/10
