About
Thomas Was Alone. And then, well, he Wasn't.
Thomas Was Alone is an indie minimalist 2D platformer about friendship and jumping and floating and anti-gravity. Starting with Thomas, become acquainted with a group of rectangles-slash-sentient-AIs, learn their individual abilities, and navigate them through 120 levels of obstacles.
Listen to a critically acclaimed score by David Housden. Jump over blocks and barriers meticulously placed by Mike Bithell. Listen to a voiceover read wistfully, a bit amusingly, and BAFTA-winningly by Danny Wallace.
Thomas Was Alone tells the story of the world's first sentient artificial intelligences, and how they worked together to, well, not escape: Escape is a strong word. 'Emerge' might be better. 'Emerge' has an air of importance about it, while keeping the myriad plot twists and superhero origin stories you'll discover under wraps. We didn't even mention the bouncing. That'd be overkill.

Utilize the unique skills of 10+ characters to beat 120 levels.
Uncover the story of AIs becoming unexpectedly sentient.
Immerse yourself in David Housden's critically acclaimed procedural score.
Chuckle along to Danny Wallace's narration.

This could have been a charming puzzler but the same solutions are repeated over and over and over. Just learned this one trick? Five levels from now you'll be repeating it 4 times in one level just to progress. Dumb busywork.
Lovely puzzle platformer with fun dialogue Works on Steam Deck as well without having to configure anything One thing that soured the game a bit was a glitch where the music would persist no matter what so by halfway through I had like 3 different songs playing at the same time, resetting the game stopped it but never permanently resolved it, no idea if its just a steam deck thing but that happened on the deck

A really decent puzzle platformer with an excellent musical score and a wonderful narrative. It isn't very long, but what is there is absolutely substantial. Highly recommended even at its base price!
This is a short experience that can only barely be described as a puzzler. But Thomas Was Alone earns points for me for its surprisingly emotional story. They're just shapes, after all, what could it all be about? I think it's worth checking out.

I enjoy puzzle games and platformers, but just thought this did both poorly. Also wasn't personally a fan of the narrative and was surprised to see it had won awards. Not for me I guess.
the long awaited sequel to thomas the tank engine it was simple and fun
short but fun
at first this game was a bit weird, but it grew on me the jumping is awersome. You have to get different shaped characters to an exit on 100 levels. a great game
A truly special game, I adore the narration style! Already played in 2014 and just finished it a second time. I love the different rectangle characters and their powers. The puzzles are not hard to figure out, but sometimes they are really frustrating to execute perfectly. For a precision platformer, the jump mechanic is too unresponsive often, but hey, I can count the levels that made me scream "oh my god!", "nooooo!" and "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell!" on only one hand. The music is a bit weird sometimes, where multiple tracks play at the same time, but I feel like that adds to the whole AI glitchy feeling of this game. Really recommend Thomas Was Alone to people new to the precision platforming genre or people who simply enjoy a greatly narrated puzzle game.
