The Takeover is a side-scrolling beat'em up inspired by 90's classics such as Streets of Rage and Final Fight. Battle solo or alongside a friend in local co-op while listening to awesome tunes from Little V Mills, Richie Branson, James Ronald and industry legend Yuzo Koshiro!

I love the level design, graphics are great. Music is good. I heard the track on the first level and said "huh early 90s dance, sounds like Strreets or Rage. The composer did a good Yuzo Koshiro impression" Then I come to the discussion board to find out it was Yuzo Koshiro lol!! Anyway, some of the movement and animation is Janky but the moves are there. I wish I could save my game and pick up where I left off. I am not sure why there is no 8 way movement with a d -pad. This is a big oversight and was a big minus for me. I havent finished it yet, just played through the first level but had a lot of fun. That is what counts Overall all I am looking forward to Takeover 2 and may by it on launch.

(the stage "the pit")
excellent 90's style caffee games
Recomendo mas só em promo, hitbox bem zoada, personagens feitos e plástico, movimentação meio dura, inimigos cercam vc e vc não tem muito o q fazer. No geral é um jogo bem razoável, mas achei meio cansativo.
A perfectly alright brawler! Be sure to enter the practice mode to learn about launchers and finishers in lieu of a moves list. My favourite thing about it is the run button. You can run by double tapping, too, but using a button to run makes it much more of a constant presence in how you play. It lets you relocate and reapproach very quickly and lets this game break away from the pace of most other side scrolling brawlers. That in turn makes up for the fact that the air juggles are quite rigid and limited in this game and there isn't a lot of room for mobility otherwise, which keeps your skill expression pretty reigned in compared to something like Streets of Rage 4. The biggest negative is that enemy variety is low and general aesthetics are pretty samey, so making progress isn't necessarily changing up the vibe the way you want from one of these. The music is very cool, however, and even though the characters look CG-y and stiff in a way that may put some people off, it's tapping into a particular 90s PC game look that I find strangely appealing. If anything, having three different art styles in the same game is odd, and the cutscenes straight up look like they're out of a different game altogether. Megan has this snazzy and impossible Anarchy Reigns/Bayonetta vibe in-game, and in the cutscenes she looks as awkward as one would likely actually feel in that getup. But really! If you like brawlers of the Final Fight and Streets of Rage school, this is a worthwhile one of those. If you're reading this I think you know if that's for you.
At current discounts, go for it. My reservation over the years seems founded, in that it's a pixel era game done with full graphics and those can often feel like using paper cutouts. This does have that feeling. But decent work has gone in to shifting the perspective in the maps from the strict 2D mode - but not in too fancy a way as to be obstructive. The visuals are garish, but nicely designed - doing the tall sprite cabinet game approach nicely, with all the usual stuff we know and expect from this genre. Addition of a gun is novel, not played enough to see this really come into its own. I'm sure as I play more I'll get more used to precisely where I am standing and where the enemy pickups are. At the moment it's like, ok that didn't pick up, try again lower down the screen. Also the finishers at the end of combos are gonna take some getting used to. Great when I pull them off, but too often I'm not quite sure if I'm at the end of a combo and end up going up or down the screen rather than those directions being used as part of my chosen finisher. I was playing on hard, but I don't think any of that is down to things which would be affected by that - which I expect is just how aggressive the enemies are and how much health they have... and perhaps how much there is around to pick up. The music is good, I also appreciate enemies with battle jackets and heroines in Latex catsuits. But if you're looking for a really fluid retro brawler, this isn't it. You'd be better going for a less fruity take than this. So far this seems to be for people like me who have played a ton of these over the years and appreciate the references and the new riffs on the old formula. Easily worth £3.99 and they have a sequel on the way
Very cool Streets of Rage style game.
This is an interesting retro Beat'Em Up, for sure. On the one hand, the controls take a bit of getting used to because they don't match most games of this style and the art style is kind of inconsistent because the cut-scenes are in done in a comic-book style that doesn't match the actual graphics of the game, and they're also kind done in a kind of amateurish style that brings to mind indie web-comics instead of professional comics. But on the other hand, the game does some interesting things you don't usually see in this kind of game, like giving the characters a firearm with limited ammo on top of the usual martial arts and special moves and including some levels where you shoot a machine gun from a car or you pilot a jet or even one where you have unlimited ammo and you can shoot the enemies instead of beating them up like in every other level. It also subverts the usual plot of this kind of game where you go save one of the characters' girlfriend/sister from some gang/mob boss who kidnapped her and in this case the kidnapping victim is a kid and the adopted daughter of two of the playable characters, and you also have two possible endings depending on a choice you have to make at the end of the game, which I found cool. This is probably one of the few retro arcade-style Beat'Em Ups I've played that genuinely felt not only like a homage to the classics but also like it was trying to do something different and new, so I'm definitely going to play the upcoming sequel once it comes out.
