The Message from Deep Space

This might be one of the best puzzle games every made.

I have little to say that others haven't already, but I love this game. It's probably the best example of a language game. While some have mentioned that the game goes too far into "we're so alike", I think that's necessary. The game lampshades that this is probably a heavily simplified form of their language - "caveman speak" essentially. Even then, is it unrealistically similar to our morality and language? Yeah, sure, but the problems people mention would be much worse without it. You won't be doing hardcore linguistics like analyzing their speech patterns from anatomy and frequencies. You're not going to even be deviating from English that much (no circumfixes or weird conjugations or whatever). Their concepts of morality are foreign while being understandable. People are right that in the later game, you kind of start throwing words and syntax at a problem until it works, even when you understand mostly what they're getting at (and sometimes it's a big leap). But if the syntax and understanding were too foreign, this would become an almost insurmountable problem. That said, to that end, I hope that after the ~500 message range, but especially around the ~900 message range, the developer adds a little more wiggle room in accepted syntax and word choice. I trust our space meteor friends are capable of developing a signal parser with multiple valid case statements.

Very fun game, especially if you like math, science, or linguistics, but you don’t need to be an expert in either of them to play

This game is simply incredible. By far the best puzzle game I have ever played.

A genuinely fantastic little game. Does a lot to get you emotionally attached to some radio-waves coming out of a big rock, and the central language-decoding puzzle is incredibly well designed. If you like Chants of Senaar, or other similar 'Translation puzzle' games, I cannot recommend this enough. (also if you like this one, check out Chants of Senaar too!)
